If he's not and she's not a pedigree dog or bitch, that is not going to be used as part of a breeding program, the desex the pair of them. If he is a pedigree and is going to be used later, you can have him implanted. I wouldn't suggest giving a bitch who is going to be bred anything. None of mine are desexed and my boys live happily next to the girls while they are in season. I've found keep them close to each other but not allowed together, is the best way to deal with it. The boys are smart and if there is any carry on, it's just for the couple of days they are ready to be mated. Get your vet to supply you with some ACE and use that if necessary for the couple of days. Desexing is the cure for the unwated behaviour ........ ETA: Sanitry items are NOT CHASTITY BELTS, they are there simply to prevent blood getting things. If she's 10 months old, then desex him

The poor bastard, he's not a "therapy " anything, he's an animal that should either be euth'd ( my preference ) or in the care of Marsupial experts.

Dna Testing For Dogs (pics Added)

He's crossed with a Beagle. -
You can use Rapigel, it will soak into the coat. My personal preference is for Penetrene ( and if you see a bottle of that snap it up, as it's no longer being made ) Odzon is another that works well You can also try Equinade Linament They are all about the same price for the same size I have a few people that purchase it for themselves, having found limited relief with products recommended for people. They have suffered chronic pain long enough that they will use whatever gives them relief. I find the penetrene eases my sore wrist and my fingers always feel good after massaging the dogs. Be aware of any that are made to " blister". You do not want to be putting such things on your own skin and I'm very wary about using them on dogs. DMSO, Dermcusal are a couple that come to mind

You nailed that one.

Your pics aren't working. You'd be better off leaving the breed ID up to DOL.... LOL -
And we're not talking the average sized back yard here. Roo's although they can be quite sociable, allowing patting and hand feeding, do not thrive in small enclosures and are easily stressed.

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that misguided "caring" by people who are emotionally not all that competent is a much more significant animal welfare issue than I previously recognised. That's partly why I posted it. It reminded me of the posts we've had recently about the partially paralysed dog and the chis with no front legs. I shudder at the thought of all of the animals out there that we don't know about.

Dear god, the poor bloody thing can't stand up and you'd want to keep it alive.
-
You're fighting an uphill battle against ignorance, indifference and stupidity. Retreat. You won't win. The other issue to consider is how much you think Max enjoys these experiences. Sounds like he doesn't. If he isn't enjoying it, just don't take him. ain't that the truth
-
Don't take him to the dog park. It sucks but there are plenty of idiot owners out there who cannont control their dogs ( large and small ) and those who have the " he just wants to play" attitude.
-
How sad for that poor Roo. A bullet would have been appropriate, when the accident happened. What a shame that the poor thing will never recover and is not capable of administering the swift kick to the head, that the nutter deserves

I'm not denying that there could be situations where the introduction of new blood could be useful, but who will decide if and when it's required ? Call me a cynic but it won't be the breeders making the decisions, it will be made by outsiders, who have little if anything to do with breeding and will undoubtedly know very little about the breeds in question and what is best for them. I can see COI will be the be all and end all.
-
The point is, it could look like a nice dog and pass the three available tests. It's not the dog in front of you, it's what's behind it that really counts. Type, temperament, structure and soundness
-
To enable me to understand this a little better, what potential issues with judges approval and DNA profiling do you see? I'll use the SBT's for example and some things you could potentially introduce into your lines. Short toes Poor temperaments and this is a biggie Oversized A line that has a weak immune system and are predisposed to allergy, food intolerance, demodex Cancer Straight stifle and patella issue Short tails, screw tails Undershot, overshot and inverted mouths ( it's a hard breed even when you are dealing with the known ) HD & ED The dog that is profiled and assessed, can really only be tested for L2-HGA HC, hip scored and eye tested and these paint only a very small picture. Good breeding comes not from slapping two dogs together and hoping for the best or from buckling under pressure.. The more research you do and the more you know about the health issues and what certain dogs and bitches have produced, the more informed decision you can make. If I had a quality bitch, line bred for generations, there is no way I'd use an unknown dog in the name of introducing " genetic diversity", in order to satisfy and make it acceptable to "society" and " Government".
-
I can't see how it's going to address " welfare issues ". Those who have bred, valued and protected their lines, will continue to do so. They will simply exclude the newly available mongrels, limit register and desex everything they don't keep for themselves or place with others they trust.
-
Microchip, tattoo (and even DNA if contested) should be able to identify the dogs already in the KC and sold on limited? But big part of the reason the kennel club is failing is there are far too few dogs sold with breeding rights. There has to be a source for the next generation of dogs and the gene pool adn population needs to be expanding instead of shrinking. Right now to say that next generation will only come from a few dogs owned by show breeders is just not acceptable to society, it is only adds fuel to the welfare issues be changed against kennel club dogs. That's a breeders decision and one that I strongly support. I can't see how introducing mongrels into the pedigree data base and making them available is going to help with any "welfare issues". It will be a case of use them at your peril. Besides the " relevant " breed health checks, the rest will be entirely unknown.
-
It will make the limited register worthless now. Buy a pup on limit or without papers and simply approach the KC for assessment and off you go. You now have the lines, you've always wanted and via the back door. I guess the next step for those who want to guarantee their lines and hard work, will be to desex everything that leaves their kennels. Some are already doing this,

I'll take my dogs pedigree, with no asterisks thanks.

Different Rules For Different Dogs
WreckitWhippet replied to Kirty's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have rules for all the dogs, who sleep where put, eat when I choose etc Except for my Whippet who does as she pleases. She never gives me an ounce of trouble, so she's picks where she sleeps and has the run of the house -
Amazing isn't it, as soon as you say you don't want dog at outside tables or in cafe's, then you instantly become a dog hater. If you want your dog to dine with you, there's always your own kitchen table. Whilst you might think it makes for a nice day out, taking your dog with you, not everyone else agrees. There's no point comparing kids to dogs, as they are not children and are not afforded the same rights as a child, not matter how disgusting some people think children are. The fact is kids are allowed to eat with their parents at any cafe be it indoors or out and chucking around comments about how badly behaved some are, does nothing to help the doggie cause.

I picked the pick dog in the last litter, the second he was born. He came out and I just knew he was the one. I marked all of the pups and wrote down each week what I thought of them and ranked them and he came out on top. He was also the choice of others that looked at the litter.
