  1. Quite likely that they are wonderful breeders but I have to ask have you dealt with them personally, have one of their dogs or know someone that does ? I'm not sure you can recommend breeders to others, if you haven't
  2. They are a waste of money and once fully weaned puppies do not need any milk. They will certainly benefit from chicken necks, wings and carcass as a source of calcium, exercising jaws and teeth. Be careful with any processed treats as they are usually full of salt.
  3. Show your dog in whatever class you like and think it will do best in , providing it's eligible.
  4. Do you mean one with a correct topline ? or do you want a GSD without the sloping croup ?
  5. Put them on a premium dry and raw meaty bones. You can add an omega 3/6/9 oil such as Performa3. Mackeral in tins is also an oily fish that will help. Buy a soft rubber curry comb and go over the dog for a couple of minutes a day, you can also use your hands to strip out any old coat and this will also promote healthy skin and coat. You will probably notice in a few weeks, that the dog will get a sort of scummy film on the skin and coat, the big flakes will have gone. It sometimes looks a bit grey and oily, this is the start of things heading in the right direction and the oils coming through. Give the dog a bath in a quality shampoo. Once the skin gets to that point, it generally balances out and there should be minimal bathing required after that.
  6. It can take weeks for some pups to settle enough to enjoy a treat. Some pups we've bred can take months to really switch on.
  7. The buyer can always take it or leave it. If they don't like the terms and conditions or co-ownership, they can go elsewhere.
  8. Same rules for the play pen as it is for the crate.
  9. I'm one that would rather have the line or bitch die with me, than have progeny be used for for BYBing or splashed about the country side willy nilly. Just because I have something super and special come my way, doesn't mean I need to share it around.
  10. I refuse to groom any dog that is sedated ( other than using valium to calm the dog ). I've had them fall over in the bath, fall of the table ( great fun catching a dog ), refuse or be unable to stand up and that's with vets having given the dosage. Grooming is risky enough with a dog that is fully aware of what's going on. Better that they be nervous or even hard to handle then drugged
  11. Make and freeze her normal diet in meal sized portions and then put them in an esky. You are making the trip way more difficult than it needs to be.
  12. I wouldn't use ACE on a dog for grooming. You could try valium but that needs to be given when the dog is in a calm and relaxed state. A good groomer, with a kind hand will be able to get their hands on your dog anyway and groom with minimal stress and to be honest you are better off not being there, as you'll upset the dog more with your stress. Give her a valium, hand her over and leave the groomer to it. I would ask for an appointment at the end of the day. Being mobile they are often limited for time during the day, not that a good groomer rushes a dog but it's nice to have the extra time if needed.
  13. My crate training rules are simple. The crate gets placed in an area of the house where we spend the most awake time. The crate has bedding, some toys, a hanging water bowl and maybe something to chew on The pup goes out to the toilet, has a game and is then put in the crate. If the pup cries and carries on it is ignored. If the pup settles for a period of an hour or more, it's then outside, to the toilet and we start all over again. During the night if it cries, it's out to the toilet, no game and back to bed. ETA: during the day the pusp either hang out with me or spend some time outside. If I want them in the house and I'm busy, it's toilet stop then crate and when I'm done outside to the toilet.
  14. I once sent entries to what would have been a local show. It took 4 weeks for them to arrive. They actually arrived after the show. I send them before the closing date and then call the show sec and confirm they have them, It's the only way to guarantee you are entered.
  15. The hair loss is no big deal and it will grow back. Many pups get worse before they get better. The hair loss really only becomes a problem, if the dogs scratch and break the skin. I've had one dog almost bald and it came good, without the need to resort to injections. They might be the quick fix but they do not remove the underlying cause.
  16. Absolutley Gary Christou is located in Orange. The clinic won't be open again until Monday morning but give them a call on 63612857. Often the phone isn't answered but leave them a message and they will get back to you. He's looked after my baby pups from about 12 weeks onwards. They have regualr visits as growing youngsters to make sure they are aligned. He's where I go first ( unless we have an obvious fracture or broken legs etc ). It's $30 a session and usually Tuesday nights from 6.15.
  17. As a groomer I like to see the babies for their first visit, sometime before they are 3 months of age. Once the pups have settled into their new home, I want to get my hands on them ASAP. The younger they get used to being handled, experience the bath, blow dryer and being scissored the better. I also want to show clients what they need to do , in order to maintain the coat between visits.
  18. I don't own any crocs but have a lovely assortment of thongs. I might see how they go
  19. I use adult kibble for my pups too. Weaned onto Advance, use the first bag up and then straight to a combo of raw and adult kibble
  20. Mine would have no worries in mounting the rocking horse , that would be the easy bit to teach
  21. I think my housemate would kick me out if I did that! lol Ive got a kong shaped brush...its great!! I like my matching stainless dog bowls to be sparkling LOL Picking them up after every meal and cleaning them, makes sure there aren't an ants, mice or slugs hanging around. Apparently you can wash car and bike parts in the dish washer too I draw the line at the dog bowls
  22. Lovely as that is, the show ring is the place for pedigree animals to compete. We shouldn't have to worry about every Tom, Dick, Harry and their mongrel.
  23. mine get put in the dish washer, along with the dog bowls.
