But what is a guard dog guarding when it is clearly off its own property? I think the instinct to guard territory is strong in some breeds. It's instinct and it results in DA or HA. It could be argued that this aggression is 'provoked', and is desirable in some situations. Especially if the dog first tries to warn the intruder to back off in an effort to avoid escalating the aggression. I posted up a 'hypothetical test' to test for aggression that goes beyond any normal territorial guarding. They are the dogs I am really scared of. Those dogs have different rules in their head about why they have to be aggressive. Who knows? But surely the more relevant issue what the dog is doing off its property and not under its owner's control.I'm sure not going to have an issue with a dog that takes a piece out of someone that assaults its owner of its own property and that would fail your proposed aggression test Greytmate. We don't need a bunch of breed specific bans and licenses to deal with the issue of dangerous dogs. We simply need effective enforcement of existing dangerous dog legislation. Furthermore, potentially an individual of ANY breed can pose a risk to the community - how do breed bans and licenses deal with that? Lets not through the baby out with the bath water or start meddling with temperaments and drives without knowing the consequences. Reduce the 'nerve' and confidence in some breeds and you end up with dogs that can easily be provoked into fear based aggression.. Yep and I think one of the most popular breeds in the country, along with it's owners would be the first to suffer if that were the case. Water down " bold & fearless" and you won't be left with totally reliable.

Great answer! I think it would be great if all breed standards were clear about aggressive temperament and 'guardian' was clearly defined. If 'primitive guardians' are to be bred to attack anything the dog interprets as a threat, I think that needs to be made clear, and government needs to put limits on the ownership of such dogs. Changing the standard doesn't solve the problem where breed standards are clearly against unprovoked aggression and breeders are either careless or actively breeding for aggression. That's a hard problem to solve . . . but an important one if dogs are to continue being a part of life in urban and suburban areas. I find the question of ankle biters (<5kg breeds) more confusing. Ferocious little buggers that are unlikely to do serious harm (although I know of one JRT sheep-killer) aren't the problem. Cleary "primitive guardians " aren't an issue either

One of the biggest things you can do for your dog in terms of it's health, is to feed it the best you possibly can. Cut corners on beds and toys by all means, but what goes in your dogs mouth, is very important to it overall health and well being.

Yep, brush him out and blow them out.

Usually not, as the first picks are reserved for myself and then I tend to match the pups to families. Sometimes if pups are similar in temperament, the buyer may have a choice.

shame he didn't get his teeth out for that pic

Most of my litters have been winter one's and I've left it on as long as 5 or 6 weeks.

You can do it with ethylestrenal, which is either Oestrotain tablets or you can buy it in the form of a paste ( for horse ) and that is Nitrotain Nandarol was the ethylestrenal tablets that you used to be able to get. Some vets still have them but they are old stock and Oestrotain has replaced it. Testoprop is Testosterone Propionate and is given via injection. The bitch can be prone to ups and downs on testoprop and some choose to do it every two weeks, rather than one injection a month. If you are considering breeding your bitch in the future, I would seriously think about giving her anything that impacts on her normal cycles. You can learn so much about a bitch and watching how she cycles.

Yep, he was an old, hairless CC with a very devoted owner who had a sense of humour. I like the fact that people can celebrate their dogs very unique looks. Most of these dogs are old, have tooth loss (hence the tongues hanging out) and my guess is both they and their dogs thrive on the attention. I can't see the harm in it. If Miss Lily goes bald () with her lumpy freckled skin, she might have a new career in these pageants. ;) Dusty can join her He's a bit special with his ears and I can only imagine how he'll look when his teeth are all gone

Sam wasn't deformed, he was just plain ugly and could take a really bad picture

Never ... well, it's not my dog -
Get his tonsils checked

Oh I don't know, perhaps a dog that can breath easier and free whelp might be a good idea yeah? Lovely in theory but it's not the case. The number I have seen ( with papers ) that have heart conditions, breathing difficulties, allergies and assorted skin conditions, spinal deformities ( missing tails and vertebrea ) is astonishing.

The "Aussie Bulldog " isn't something we should be proud of, it's an Australian made abomination. The new " healthy" and mobile alternative to the BB , is anything but.

I groom a Poodle ( Toy ) that is so obese, that I cannot clip it's feet. It's so fat and it's feet are so fat, that I cannot get the foot blade between the toes or the pads. It's disgusting

they looks like big pigging mixes to me and someone is going to be surprised or disappointed if they turn out to be as tall as their hip.

They've been around at least as long as I've been showing. In the early days it was a good reason to not venture too close to the VIC border

Best make that Bull Terrier

If I was going to make a "greyhound " formula, I'd be thinking along the lines of higher fat, higher protein, increased calcium, antioxidants. That's just as a rough example but I bet every knowledgeable breeder could come up with a list of what they think their individual breed could benefit from
