  1. Oh I'm so sorry Persephone!!! Completely forgot.... See below :) Hopefully it attached!
  2. So it has been five days since we bought Odin (GSD) home and it has been a wonderful five days! They have gotten on like a house on fire. He was toilet trained from the word go which transcended onto Abby (Beagle). Abby was very excitable the first few days, but as Odin has become more comfortable they are both into a routine and are inseparable. We've come to the conclusion that having both puppies has actually been easier than dealing with just Abby... It may be because we are more aware of what to expect, I'm not sure. But we are both satisfied with our decision to have these puppies in our lives at this time :)
  3. We've done our best so far. At the moment we have a puppy pen, the Beagle's crate, the Laundry is now gated and also my parents live next door, with at least one of them home at a time and my partner and I have alternating shifts, maybe one or two hours on the odd day when neither of us is home. We have a meeting with his puppy's breeder before hand to discuss the best ways to introduce and separate etc. Have we missed something major?
  4. Her toileting has improved two fold. No wee's inside UNLESS she is excited and its a little dribble. Her poo's are saved for wake up and bed time and sometimes midnight. But so far so good. I've just used the word "Wee's" and she goes in the same garden area each time, then she walks around into her "poo bush". We have to keep reminding ourselves it will all start again in two and half days time when the partners GSD comes. But the breeder is partially toilet training him....
  5. Thank-you persephone and Sandra777. I'm actually glad I don't need to focus on having a deep voice, just another thing I read somewhere. Since starting this thread, we've been trying to ignore the behaviour, settling her and its had its moments, but persistence is the key. It's crazy the amount of differing opinions between experts/published authors, its so confusing when reading different articles. Its her bedtime soon and we've had great success with crate training; she puts herself to sleep 90% of the time... Infact while writing this she has fallen asleep, (I became distracted by a news report.) We have plenty of time in the coming week to focus on her and her alone. If her other habit developments are anything to go by, she'll wake up one day and it all just clicks, with only minor incidents. Thank-you once again :)
  6. Thank you both for the suggestions - Definitely some ideas we will be taking on board. Sorry Leema; I should of explained the Auhtority part better. Its my lack there of. I can't produce a deep enough or commanding voice to show her who is the leader. All other elements like walking and sitting, staying etc she is fine. I also think that possibly we are inadvertently giving of the over energetic vibe. My partner and I can be loud, especially if we are watching something funny etc. I'm also going to head out tomorrow and buy some more chew toys and objects, except, like one of the articles that was included in Nekhbet's link, I will limit what is available to her and use them to divert the behaviour. Combining this with some of your (Leema) suggestions I hope some improvement shows :) Thank-you both again.
  7. My 11 week old female beagle can become quite rough when she play bites and when I've tried to show authority she either does not acknowledge my attempt of a deep voice 'NO' or she will challenge me, growling. We've tried a variety of methods, giving them at least two or three days to take effect, except they work once and then never again. We took her for a walk until she literally did not want to take another step (we didn't have that in mind, we just walked longer than we thought) and she still came home and was biting. My partner had her listening for a while but she has since tested our patience. We don't give in, but we are just at ends with what to do or try next. Should we avoid tugging at her rope toy? We are awaiting the arrival of another puppy before Puppy Preschool, but we do a bit of training at home re: Sit, down, stay etc. Please help.
  8. My 11 week old Beagle is getting there with the wee's but her pooing inside is a bit all over the place. We successfully used wee pads and she rarely does any huge wee's inside. But she never took to pooing on them. She will however go and poo behind 'her' bushes in the garden, on command, afar each meal and waking up. But the odd occasion she sniff, squat and let it out within two seconds. Our lounge is set up so we can isolate her in there with us, and we can see and hear every move she makes, she just moves too fast. And when we do realise what she has done, we are conscious of how we react because we know if we cause too much of a fuss or sound angry she will become anxious. Is it just one of those things that my partner and I should stick with and be patient with?
  9. When I bought Abby, I was given a bag of Pig Snouts. And god does she love them... I got her to sit and lay down in one shot with the snouts than with any other treat... :) Yoghurt drops is another one I've seen, haven't tried it yet, will use the pig snouts for as long as I can.
  10. Abby had her final C5 Puppy vaccination on Thursday. From reading this thread and another, my understanding is; its semi okay to take her out for a walk as long as its not a dog populated area and also the Parvo virus hasn't run rampant in the area? I just want to get her out and about, because I know it will be a long walk the first time (Beagle = Sniffing EVERYTHING), BUT with her breed being a scent sniffer, should I be extra careful or just the extra eight days when the antibodies from the vac have fully kicked in.
  11. Haha, yes she did indeed. We call that blue thing the 'ruff' house. She really let's herself go with that one, barking and growling at it. But never tears it... It was meant for the cat's but they never showed an interest but she LOVES it!!! Thanks :)
  12. We used vicks vaporub and the yelping loudly technique on Abby, so far its getting better... Except today when we took her for her C5 booster she DID NOT once attempt to play bite the vet or vet nurse... She was a perfectly behaved puppy... Until we got in the car...
  13. I haven't been able to find many Beagle threads, I might just not be looking hard enough. I am in awe with my 10 week old Abby. Have had her for two weeks and just love her to pieces... http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/861/img1758o.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/830/img1738h.jpg/ I've began to notice how inelegant girls are when sleeping... http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/521/img1749ys.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/9/img1753qo.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/528/img1755ws.jpg/ Five minutes of craziness = this... http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/140/img1766u.jpg/ Sorry they are links, but I went to the insert image and it says I cannot use this format or something?!?! Hopefully I can figure it out soon...
