  Yep - that's a break out the cigars moment here too :D I'm still waiting for this...coming up 13 months old  was he desexed early? you may be perpetually waiting  I was hoping my boy, desexed at 3 months, would never cock his leg. Unfortunatly one day he just randomly started doing it when he was about 6 months old, but now it's kinda cute lol But I did get excited the first few times he did it, because he did it before his entire litter-brothers and I was kind of proud of that lol Plus the first few times he did it, he lost his balance and fell over and I made my OH come and watch because it was so cute.

The funniest ones of my guys I have are when they are playing nicely, so I'm taking photos, then 3 seconds later they are humping and I end up with a charming shot of that

One of my pugs prefers some treats "pre loved", nothing to do with his place in the pack, but he will try and swap chews with my other pup for her soggy/half chewed one.her Maybe you dog just likes pre chewed dental sticks

I wondered that when I read the description of her condition too, it sounds like she was alone and lost. But how sad, I saw the update on FB and automatically assumed it would be good news. Poor little thing, wherever she was

I was going to buy one, but that thought crossed my mind and I just couldn't bring myself to get one -
5 months is till young, some pups don't get it until they are a bit older. It doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong! Seriously, one day my pup just *got it*, and I thought she never would. I taught my girl to pee on command with consistency - even now at 12 months of age I randomly reward for peeing in the right spot. I would say the command word ("bathroom") and treat EVERY single time she peed in the right spot, when she was peeing/closer to when she was finishing peeing. By boy doesn't need treats, he's happy with a party, so everyone is different (he's also 7 months and hasn't got a reliable on command thing happening, so if you suck - I suck worse!) When I take my guys outside to pee before bed, they have to pee then they get 5 minutes of play time (or however long it takes me to brush my teeth and get ready for bed). I found if I made them pee and come straight back inside they would dawdle and take forever to pee because there was nothing in it for them. Does your girl get "fun time" after a pee, or it is straight back inside to "boring land" (thinking in puppy terms here, sorry  ). You might need different treats, or different praise, or more praise, or she might just be a weirdo from outer space. The main thing - don't beat yourself up. Take a breath, have a cry if you need to (oh, how many nights I stood over a wee on the carpet and cried  ), but browse here and read the horror stories!!! You aren't alone. I put a "gents" sign on my boys crate, that's how bad he is at peeing in it Oh, and my boy peed on MY BED about 15 times before he finally got the hint that perhaps that wasn't a good thing to do. Some pups just aren't fast learners, regardless of training methods. *hugs*

Latest Research On Prong & Check Collars
minimax replied to luvsdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
If they are taught not to pull in a collar, they are very comfortable in one ;) I taught my pug to have a collar on, not even walk in one, just wear one, but she hated it and spent every second of her life trying to get it off, and whenever I walked her in it she would walk backwards out of it. The downside to having a dog whos neck is bigger than their head  -
Okay, I Finally Snapped And Was Rude
minimax replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
What a brilliant idea, I can see a big rise in dog owners wearing their own t-shirts with answers, that suit their dogs. Runs off to buy some plain t-shirts & clothing markers. Today my Tshirt says "Keep Calm and Walk the Pug" maybe it should say "Keep Calm while Walking Your Dog" :p -

Latest Research On Prong & Check Collars
minimax replied to luvsdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Agree 100% A harness encourages pulling as the dogs lean into it. Their is a reason sled and draft dogs wear a harness. I now specify in the classes I teach that dogs not be on a harness unless there is a specific medical reason that precludes wearing of a collar (as I teach at a vet clinic it is easy enough for them to discuss their concerns with the vet). There is simply not enough control to be had on a harness for the average person - particularly when around other dogs. I refuse to put my pugs in collars because of breathing issues, and also because they can slip collars off their chunky necks quicker than you can blink. As a teacher of something (I don't know specifically what you teach, sorry!) would you still not allow a harness on a pug? As I said, if there was a genuine medical issue (breathing) then harnesses would be used. I may also suggest a martingale collar that would not slip over the dogs head. I have had pugs in the classes before. Some have worn collars without issue. One wore a harness. She had to work VERY hard on the control issue..... One of mine is perfect on a harness, one is like a freight train and is on a sporn  Just curious as someone mentioned in another thread harnesses weren't allowed for obedience etc and I wondered how pugs or brachy breeds went if they were forced into something they weren't comfortable with. -

I'm an expert at painting ... because my pug keeps chewing the door frames so I've had lots of practice at re-painting them  I've recently thought to paint them with vicks vapor-rub, which seems to have lessened the door frame munching slightly - now they just stand there and LICK the disgusting tasting stuff off

I'd love to take my pugs to a club and watch them try and make them wear a halti

Same as me - being on the corner both my yards are on the street. And one of my pugs, the big brave puppy, barks everytime a leaf blows past, heaven forbid a person decides to walk down the street! We have solid, high fences so you can't see in (and the pugs can't see out), so you can't tell they are only small, so maybe people think they are agressive dogs. But ... in the end he's a dog and he barks at noises (sometimes even ones in his head). He doesn't do it all day every day, they are only in the yard when we are home, but people might have to understand that dogs are dogs. Dogs will spend times in yards. Dogs will bark or make noises. They are in THEIR house, THEIR territory, defending it from big bad things such as leaves and gumnuts and shadows and unknown noises beyond.

Same as you do with kids - put it inside a play pen (the tree, not the dog)

Sorry Sheridan, but where's the survey that backs up your opinion of small dog owners? I'm a small dog owner currently. I've also owned a German Shepherd Cross, a Cattle cross and rescued or facilitated the rescue of dogs over 30 kilos on a regular basis. Some small dog owners have them for reasons other than that is all they want. Many people I know are so fearful about being attacked by large dogs, they tell me they want a dog they can pick up .... some people have bad backs. some peple have small spaces ... Sarcasm hashtag was in place! All I did was substitute the usual anti-crossbreed rants for size because this thread is getting a bit odd with all the finger pointing. I have much sympathy for those who have issues walking their dogs, as I have some myself. I just don't think the increasing level of rantiness and hyperbole coming from various contributers is either useful or polite (see the post above mine and the one it's replying to). You don't need to supply a "survey" for an opinion. An opinion is just that - an opinion. It doesn't require facts or sources or anyone else to agree!

Okay, I Finally Snapped And Was Rude
minimax replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
I love hearing the things people say to me or my dogs when I'm out, even if it's the same thing over and over. I love that people smile or laugh when they see my dogs - if it makes someone happy for a moment to make a comment to me, even if I've heard it a billion times, so what. I'd rather someone walk away happy than walk away feeling bad because I wanted to be rude to them. -

Tell's me if she wants the head collar or what ever the gadget is off, then it's an aversive. Funny I have never seen a dog wanting a prong collar off like they do with head collars I wonder if some clubs have the policy to use stupid equipment that doesn't teach the dog anything of value so people keep coming back and spending money on lessons/memberships whatever? That would be too sensible to fit a dog up with a prong or Ecollar who needs it for the best approach to successful training or rehabilitation hey? Now that was one big helpful relevant comment. Not

Can Vaccinating A Pup To Young Be Dangerous?
minimax replied to biglib's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Where's the nastiness? The best interests of that pup would see it vaccinated at 6 weeks and rehomed with a microchip at 8 weeks. It really is that simple. Any one rehoming pups younger is NOT doing right BY THE ANIMAL. I think eye rolling is a bit uncalled for in this situation no? I'd class that as quite nasty and uncalled for. Don't worry, I can't breathe without donatella calling me nasty I'd just taken her off ignore thinking she'd probably gotten over herself by now, but apparently not. -

So does that help you make the correct decision about your puppy? Not my puppy, to many ppl are quick to jump to conclusions and make judgement, this doesnt bother me.. however many novices needing advice would be put off from asking for help .. once again thanks to those who helped. *eye roll* Whoevers puppy it is, does the correct information given by the vet,a nd the info given by everyone here, help you to inform your friend to make the correct decision?
