  1. That's hard, but it sounds like somewhere in that routine something needs to change, because it sounds like it's not working :/ Can you have some quiet time after peeing, but before bed? Cuddles, or a brush? Some attention time, but soothing time? I don't know what to do for a pup who fights the lead, but I'm sure someone else here will have some advice for that. Is she crate trained?
  2. I didn't see anyone be rude to you, until you decided to declare that everyone who "plonked" (your words) their dogs outside were bad owners No gang mentality there. Just a "say rude things, expect to be called out", just as in the real world.
  3. Yeh, they said on FB a week or so ago they wouldn't be doing store wide free shipping this year.
  4. Leaving dogs in the backyard when you go out doesn't make one a bad owner. Mine would love to be outside when I wasn't home, unfortunatly they are too stupid and have to be inside for their own protection. Both mine love sleeping in the sun, even in hot weather, but they are black pugs so being hot isn't a grand idea and they can't be trusted to NOT sleep in the sun, so I have to leave them inside. If I could block off my yard so it was only shaded (and safe from people throwing things over the fence etc as I live on a corner block), I'd leave them outside when I was at work, but I can't. So don't imply people who "plonk" their dogs in the yard don't care about them. I'd prefer my dog "plonked" out in the fresh air with room to run and play, rather than cooped up in a house all day. Either way they are alone, not being companions (as dogs are supposedly meant to be).
  5. Can you take your dog off the property to excercise her?
  6. You have to give her the command as she pees so she associates it with peeing (or just after, it depends on the dog. sometimes saying it during peeing can distract them and stop them peeing). saying it before she pees doesn't associate it with anything except sniffing and circling. When you take her out on the lead, does she get play time as well, or is it only pee time? If she's on the lead, you are 100% in control and can stop her playing and leaping. If she doesn't get play time, she could associate peeing with being put to bed (which could be bad or boring, so what's the point in peeing if it's just going to lead to bedtime?). however, if peeing is followed by 10 minutes off lead play time, it cuold be more enticing. the yes vs good girl is just whatever your praise word is, it doesn't matter what the actual word is, people use different words. As long as you're consistent in your praise word/phrase.
  7. +1 If she likes the dog, and it's suitable, why "punish" it by not taking it just because she doesn't like where it is? If anything, wouldn't that be more incentive to take it?

    Crating A Puppy

Well, I'll respond. Firstly, I didn't say a damn thing about Aso. I said that nine hours a day in crate was too much for a giant breed pup and I didn't respond in kind when she decided to call me names. I don't crate adult dogs overnight. I get up each and every time a crated pup whines or, In my case when my elderly dogs need to go out for a pee. Last night that was three times. Frankly I don't recall the last time I had an unbroken night's sleep but that is the price you pay for living with an old dog with a weaker bladder and poor eyesight. And no, I'm not going to crate them and distress them by forcing them to pee where they sleep. +1 my adult dogs sleep on my bed, where they can come and go as their bladders need to, but they rarely go during the night. As pups they were crated at night and I'd get up to let them out when they needed to, but they weren't also crated during the day, they were either with me in my office at work, or in the kitchen.
  9. Some vets "affiliate" or refer to/with emergency hospitals. My vet refers to SASH, when the Animal Referal Hospital at Homebush is closer.

I currently have Vicks Vapour Rub all over my door frames to stop my pug eating them, seems to be one of the only things he won't eat. You can get bitter sprays but it's a matter of finding what your dog doesn't like (mine loves the taste of the bitter spray!)

My dog eats the doorframes and he's only a pug (but he's black, so that kinda explains it all  ), so I'd hate to think what a large dog would eat if he was determined!
  12. I have a Boston, because I love Boston :D (but he's a pug, not a boston, lol) I know a pug called Knuckles, and I think that is the best name ever. She's a black girl pug and it's just an awesome name!
  13. I'm buying up for a "rainy day" - ie: those times when toys go missing or the dogs destroy their favourite thing and you can never find them to buy again or can't justify paying $20 for it when you could have bought it for $4 on CR with free shipping!
  14. The crackle balls are a huge hit! I think I need to do another order and stock up on them, they've kept the 8 month old pug amused for 4 hours now!
  15. I have a Max... but she's a girl so that automatically makes it unusual ;)
  16. hehehehe, Mirawee wins!! +1 for this one!

Beg to differ with the raw meaty bones diet poop Minimax, my previous pup did very well with it and his poop was like little pellets and never sloppy :-) I can take my pup to work but he will still be in the soft crate in the back of the car, with all windows and the back open and crate fan and only if the temperature is okay. Will this be better? I can come out more often for his breaks and interaction. I understand what you mean about the pups being different, I think it makes it easier for me to have the protocols that worked before so I know where to start. Sloppy and quantity are different things! What breed was your previous dog? Both my dogs are fed a raw diet so I'm well aware of the output ;) However, I have pugs so the output is MUCH less than a DdB lol I can't see how being in a car is any different to being in a crate in a house, temperature being the only thing as cars can be like ovens (although there is probably a law against it, like leaving kids in cars).

    Crating A Puppy

A dogue on a raw diet is still going to produce a shitload of poop, don't kid yourself (pun intended) Can you take the pup to work with you, even for a few hours a day? I did that with my new pup, rather that leave her home alone, and it worked out well. Try not to imagine this pup is going to be the same as your last pup, even dog is different, and just because one dog could hold on for a certain amount of time, doesn't mean another one can.
  19. woohoo, order #2 arrived! Most of it I don't need, I re-ordered when I thought my first one was lost, so I'm giving to people in the office who have dogs lol Some will go to the "later" shelf for my guys though, and I'm glad I ordered some more Wubba Friends as they love them! I think the Cuz crackle balls will be a huge hit, though the noise might drive me nutty within minutes
  20. Would a bucket or ice-cream container with toys frozen in water or a bit of chicken stock count as a food? Something like that can keep someone amused for hours, licking away!
  21. Boston, the smiliest pug in the world!
  22. Oh that's frustrating :/ When you submitted your EOI did you get a confirmation? I do hope he ends up in a good home though :/
  23. Sorry Arcane :/ Is that because he's going home, or because of other reasons?
  24. that's really very clever. I can just imagine him saying to himself, good, she's gone! I'll see what she's left for me. Haha, that's awesome. Some dogs get left with a kong, Stan thinks he gets left with a whole oven
