There was a thread about this pretty recently actually, do a search for vegan pets it should come up.

But how does it reduce the pulling tendency without applying aversive pressure with the potential of pain for the dog to back out from pulling, or is that what it does.........ultimately no diffent than a prong collar except that the aversive action of the device is applied elsewhere on the dog's body to create a 'no pull" result? You should be all for them, then. Why? Allywill is m-sass etc Yes, I'd already figured that one out - only took one post to identify.

I'm not sure that anyone said it wasn't an aversive? Although really, a flat collar can be an aversive too, so

My sporn doesn't have a collar, it merely has the loops under the legs and the lead attaches to the back like a normal harness. Perhaps we should make it clear in this thread which Sporn product we are talking about (when we are talking about it)? Mine has a collar and it is called a Sporn Halter. They both work on the same "under the arm" concept to help stop leash pulling, mines just minus the collar because my fattys have chunky necks and the collars were too small for them. I might have to get one of those for Frankenpuggie. He pulls like anything in his Puppia harness and he is a determined little bugger. That's why I got the Sporn, I had Max in a Puppia from when she was tiny and they just encourage pulling because they can lean all their weight in and pulllll and really get good momentum going. I started my other pug in a rope harness and he's never had a pulling issue. Puppia's are bad :/ He is my sister's Pug and the Puppia harness came with him... But seeing as though he is in my care I don't see why I can't buy him a Sporn harness. Yeh, why not! My Max loves hers, she does this hilarious "leap" into it so both her front legs go through the straps at the same time. My OH doesn't use the sporn "properly", she just uses it likes its a normal harness and Max pulls with her like shes freight-train. But with me, at the start of each walk she still needs a few initials corrections but after that she's usually okay. I don't do as much training with her as I should, if I put more effort in she would probably walk much better on leash - but most of the time I walk with Boston and my OH walks with Max, which is why it doesn't bother me too much

What size did you get? The small ones are tiny, I got the next size up from the small (can't remember if there were two or three sizes) and my pug loves it and carries it everywhere with her. I just looked at my order and I ordered the large I don't know why I ordered the large o.O they have ended up as a gift for a doggy friend so they won't go to waste :) I did that with one of the Kong tugs - when it arrived it was so big and heavy my pugs wouldn't have even been able to lift it  So it got gifted to my friends cattle dog who loves it. -
Why Am I Seeing This Un-doglike Behaviour
minimax replied to shirra's topic in General Dog Discussion
No run-ins or recent bites, but she does have ongoing anal gland problems. Perhaps her anal glands are sore? If the behavior has only been recent, might be worth getting the glands checked out. -

Is she sore around that around, so that it might hurt when they touch her? Or has she recently been bitten or had a run-in with a dog that might leave her a bit "bum shy"? My girl is often "bum shy" when my boy has been harrasing her and biting her tail a lot (because he knows it annoys her and he's currently a bratty 7 month old  ) -
This is how I use the sporn - as a way to walk my dog without dislocating my shoulder and without giving her new bad habits, or re-inforcing her existing ones. It's her every day walking harness, no different to my other dogs rope harness.

Quinn Did Something New Today, I Was Proud
minimax replied to Simply Grand's topic in General Dog Discussion
Your proud because your dog flattended a scared puppy and intimidated him? to you, I guess. -
Can he be in his pen or crate overnight, and you let him out to go to the bathroom? And he's only 9 weeks, don't worry about the peeing on command yet! Just stick with the training and that will come.
-
Maybe try looking for a crate cover for the cage crate more than a soft crate, most puppies will chew their way out of a soft crate within hours. My OH doesn't like cage-crates either, even refuses to call them crates and calls them cages I cover them in cute kiddy sheets, because actual crate covers are expensive, which makes them look nicer. Plus a sheet isn't too heavy so they don't get too hot, and you can still lift up a side or two to get air in. Then maybe when her pup starts to like the crate she might come around and not hate it so much?

We'd be there except we're away! fur-panto would definitely win fastest eating dog! Awww we'd be there except it's the monthly Pugs in the Park! Love to see my pugs in a fast eating comp

Because my photography skills leave a lot to be desired, I'm booking my guys in to have their photo taken with santa http://www.foxphotographyanddesign.com.au/homepage/2012/11/13/kellyville-pets-santa-photos/

Haha, that's cute.

Wow, how horrible
-
Hehee he's so tiny and cute! I personally wouldn't leave a pup with a collar on in a crate or playpen unsupervised. He will get used to his playpen though, especially if you make it fun for him with a treat when he's in there.

 Don't tell him that...it might affect his macho image & give him a complex  If this is the same dog you dress as a caterpiller ... he's probably thrilled with the step up to gay superman -
Oddly enough my pugs walk better off-leash - I think it's part of their stubborn determination to do the opposite of whatever I want them to do! I take them for a run off leash, and they stick to me like velcro, hardly going a metre away from me ... I walk them on-leash and all they want to do is pull and run away
-
Yes, let's train a dog to walk nicely on a leash by throwing all tethering equipment out and walking it off leash :p

I'm sooooo glad my 7 month old boy never got the memo about humping! Probably because his bits were chopped off when he was 3 months old  My 13 month old girl, Max, is the humper in our family, it was my leg that copped it before we got Boston now she just uses him as her own personal "special cuddler". We don't encourage it though, and she does respond to the "get off" command (which, in hindsight, was such a bad choice of words use )
