  1. My girl hates her crate with a passion. I considered her to be un-crate trainable because regardless of how many fun games we played, or how much training we did, she screeches and howls and barks the house down whenever shes in her crate. I've left it out for some reason, just never put it away, and she still gets fed in it out of habit but she never goes in it any other time. A few weeks back she was sick, puking and pooping and so weak she could barely walk. I found her fast asleep in her crate, curled up like a little puppy. I nearly fell over, and had to take a photo because if I'd not seen it, I would have never believed it. So I think when dogs are sick, or unwell, there is a little switch in there that completely changes their personalties and likes and dislikes and they become whole different dogs! Maybe your little girl likes the "cave", where its dark and safe and secure and cool. I wouldn't worry, but check on her every now and then and let her know you're still there if she needs anything.
  2. www.k9pro.com.au are having a sale on cooling products! edit: thread here with details
  3. Awesome, thank you! Might take a drive out one day when I have some time (time ... ) to a place that has lots of nurserys so we can investigate and research. Sounds like a new project to keep the girlfriend out of trouble :D (Bet as soon we get rid of the pugs sandpit and fill it with water, they'll want to use it
  4. I believe this is an absolute treat for dogs..our two eat ours too...yep...all pretty gross. If I break a fingernail, I'll give it to Max as a treat
  5. Can you change their registered name then? Now I want to know what your dogs name is, must be pretty embarrasing :D Its not that bad, just the kennel name with her normal name added after that, but it just sounds a bit ridiculous and pretentious, most of our agility friends are on the associate register so think mindy's registered name is a bit stoopid. I actually think the themed names sounds ok and some quite suit the dog! She's already on the main register so I doubt I'd be able to register her as an associate. I should have just done that in the first place as it would have been much easier and cheaper If you're just worried about what your friends will think ... well, then I'd best not say what I want to say

  7. I showed OH the pics from this thread last night (who can resist a Whippapotamus  ) and she said she's happy to give clamshell pool water plants a try! I may have forgotton to mention the mozzies, but I figure if we get some fish we might avoid the mozzie thing. Kirislin do you have any decent web resources for getting started on water plants?
  8. My pugs do this too I can't believe he ate a part of my body Watch it, now he's got a taste for human, he'll turn on you, and devour your toes while you're sleeping!! Watch out for your ear wax covered cotton tips - he'll probably love those too
  9. My two finish their frames in different times (one hoovers and one takes for-freakin-ever!) - so they are seperated to eat to avoid any issues.
  10. Better wrap the dogs in cotton wool and not let them outside in case they get dirty too! I've never thought to feed drumsticks, but they are just another part of the chicken so why not!
  11. Exactly - why bother with the injection in the first place if you know you're going to give heartworm tablets?
  12. Hmm, don't think I could sell the idea to the OH if it came with mozzies. She wanted to turn the clamshell into a fish "pond", but I didn't want the maintenance or upkeep involved. If it was plants in water, that's her area  (plants die if I have anything to do with them!)
  13. Yes do!! this was last years lily flowering. It's not the same one as the first pics. Water lilys first day by kirislin, on Flickr and this one's got rainbow nardoo, milfoil and azolla fern on it. IMG_4997dpp by kirislin, on Flickr this one's a creamy white, this is from last year, but it's currently flowering now too Water Lily by kirislin, on Flickr sooo pretty. do they attract mozzies or anything?
  14. Oh they are pretty! I'm about to ditch my clamshell sandpit because my guys don't use it (except to pee in), maybe I could try and turn it into an aquatic plant thing.
  15. well as someone who does everything, heartworm, flea, intestinal worm treatments seperate, I am horrified that anyone thinks it's ok to double up on chemicals. Just goes against the grain. I'd never go to that vet again. It may not be bad for them, have never looked into it, but I would never ever do it. With all the stress on the body nowadays why add to it? I'd never do the annual injection to begin with, just for the sheer overload of chemicals in one hit. But then to add to that extreme chemical overload but doubling up again It's more than "slghtly more" chemicals than necessary - it's double.
  16. You're brave! That's definetly not something I'd be doing!
  17. http://www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/sbh/safety_equipment/lifejackets.html Not listed on the Maritime website, so i'd say no it's not a law.
  18. I don't, I try to sometimes pretend I'm civilised, but I'm sure my OH does when I'm not looking
  19. Boston, my 8 month old pug is big on kisses - I think his breeder teaches "kisses" inplace of biting, which doesn't bother me at all. I don't let him lick my face though, just because I don't like the feeling of it. I get covered in pug snot all the time fropm pug snorts and sneezes, and both of them know if they lick my ear it's a really good way to make sure I wake up and get out of bed quickly because I hate it
  20. Boston goes nuts when I file my nails, he insist on smelling the nail file and sometimes wants to lick it too. Max tries to get into the shower with me, but we've worked out a routine now where she gets in and licks a bit of water off the floor and gets a bit wet when I first turn the water on, then gets out to let me in and sits guarding the door (so that I have to really push her out of the way when I want to get out!), ready to get back in when I get out  Sometimes I'll get a lick down, but normally she prefers to lick the water off the shower floor. Then both pugs fight over who gets to obsessivly lick the bathroom drain and lick down the bathroom tiles until they are slippery and slobbery. My dogs do ONLY weird things - I could go on for days Here is Boston with a freshly cleaned crack in the cement - he does this each night in a different spot
  21. I'd ask her what her prefix is. If she's a newly registered breeder, she'd probably love to know someone who asks about her prefix!
