  1. Plus whatever he was diagnosed with, will now likely be excluded from his insurance and he won't be covered for anything to do with that in the future. Glad it wasn't a tick though, but don't feed him every time he shivers or he will learn that looking sad and cold is a pretty good way to get get food ;)
  2. I witnessed something similar and I was so upset by it that I actually came home and threw out all of my kids pyjamas and from then on right up till right now they sleep in tracky dacks or T shirts etc in case anyone came and judged me unfit for my dogs because my kids had a sleep in. Ive never done a yard check for any rescue since. I think that's completely atrocious. What's next - someone being knocked back because the handwriting on the application isn't neat enough?
  3. Thanks for asking, I wondered too but didn't want to ask as I thought it might be something I should know
  4. If you go to google.co.uk you get the answer instantly!
  5. Were you knocked back because you work full time or were you knocked back because there were equally brilliant family applying that didn't work full time? I was told I wasn't suitable as I worked full time. What went on behind the scenes with others applicants I don't know, because I wasn't applying for specific pugs, but was open for any.
  6. How can that possibly be comfortable He's a dog, they find odd things nice. They find poop tasty, I don't question it  Often my pug jumps off my bed and sleeps on the floorboards - it's cooler for him and for some weird reason he just likes it! I don't mind where he sleeps - I give him options and he knows he has options, he chooses whichever he wants.
  7. If he's choosing to use the floor, he might be more comfortable on the floor!
  8. I find that really weird, and again it's the income vs being home. All well and good if you're home all day to watch the dog sleep (and I'm sure most people would love to do that!), but if you're not working do you have the funds available for the best care of the dog, emergency vet care etc? Full disclosure: I was knocked back several times for rescue pugs on the basis I work full time. I ended up getting mine from breeders and am perfectly happy with them and love them to bits, and am not bitter towards rescues, just really find the "if you work full time you can't be a good pet owner" to be a bizzare mentality!
  9. I think I've narrowed down the problem to something that bit him while he was chewing on random things in the backyard, just not sure what it was. he won't let me near one side of his mouth, and it looks a bit swollen. He's been lethargic all night, which is why I asked about the flowers, but He's asleep on my legs now and I'll keep an eye on him. I don't have any antihistamines in the house, otherwise I would give him some. Makes me realise I need to restock my puppy first aid kit!
  10. Most things, and that link too, mention the sap, but not specifically the flowers which is why I'm not sure.
  11. I can't use the forum search from my phone and Google is giving me mixed results - so does anyone know if frangipani flowers are toxic to dogs? One of my pugs is hoovering them down from under the tree, and although they aren't making his poop smell any sweeter he looks so cute with a flower hanging out of his mouth
  12. It's actually pretty common, and not that disturbing really - humping is a fact of life, in a way it's doggy masturbation (which is also normal in humams). Most dogs that hump beds or toys stick with beds or toys, they don't switch to other things.
  13. Then the ones that say no you can't have an animal because you work full time - so do they want you to be able to finacially care for the pet, or not?
  14. I feed mine twice a day too only the other way around. They get the RMB in the morning and the meaty part in the evening. Mine is purely a time thing - Boston takes forever to eat his carcass, he loves to suck it and drag it around the floor and I don't have that kind of time in the morning to indulge him
  15. Mine get brekky and dinner - no real theory behind it except they would make my life hell if they didn't get brekky. Being pugs they are starving 24/7, but also they are young and still growing so morning they get a homemade raw mix, and night time is chicken carcass.
  16. I would have thought temperament would have fallen under the 'standard' category? Just out of curiosiyt- which breeds do you think could use 'a little tweaking'? Some of the brachy breeds spring to mind... Then again, I'm a pet owning person, and not interested in showing... or breeding for that matter. I'm not trying to start an argument - just voicing an opinion about MY OWN preferences is all. T. I would lke to know too. As the owner of 2 (maybe) brachy breeds, I would like to know the "public" perception of them, and what they think needs tweaking. Just curious, but everything we can know makes us better. I have two (unrelated) pedigree pugs, from very good lines, and neither of them have breathing issues. The general perception of pugs and breathing issues comes from poorly bred BYB pugs which are exceptionally common. Max was hooning around like a lunatic the other day in humid 27 degrees, and would lay down in the water bowl to cool off before going back to make the other dogs chase her. Most of the other pugs there were hyperventilating just sitting in the shade not moving.
  17. It would be odd for a vet to suggest the dog has a tick, but then not give anti-serum for the tick or do everything to find it? Did the vet search him for ticks? If he's not keeping any water down, I'd definitely take him to another vet because if he gets dehydrated it can be really dangerous in a pup that young.
  18. ?? The new owners are going on holiday, they would have to pay more than that if they took the puppy to a kennel. But most breeders said they are willing to attend to the puppies for free if they were bred by them. So if the new owners went to another breeder and said he/she can only take the puppy home 2 weeks later, the other breeders will gladly do it for free. The puppy is ready to go home, new owners are going away and aren't ready to take puppy ... how is that the breeders fault
  19. Homemade raw mix, chicken carcasses or wings and sometimes beef offcuts if I've been to the butcher. Why? Because it's not full of processed crap and they do well on it and I know they are getting good quality food .
  20. I wouldn't be sitting on the ground when hes playful to start with, because of course he's going to try and play bitey face with you - bitey face is the best game in the world  My dogs play bitey face with each other and sometimes try and involve me too, becuse they love the game and think I must want to play too, but I have to remind them that it's their game, and if they want to play with me we play other ways. But if he's not in the mood for cuddles and wants to play - maybe leave the cuddles idea until he's more settled?
  21. Slightly OT, but the breed standard calls for "decidedly square and cobby" (cobby meaning stocky, for people like me who had to google ) My 14 month old pug sits around 9kg, and sometimes (visually) I feel she could do with more weight on her, and she's pretty much pure muscle (Max). So, no pudgy and fat don't mean the same thing - pudgy means puggy :D
  22. Does it live under a bridge. Hmm, I dunno if a homeless person would really be here on DOL ...
  23. On their heads or their dogs? On my pugs I don't use shampoo, I just use water and sometimes a bit of apple cider vinegar.
