Max does this too! It cracks me up, but she always makes people in the park concerned, especially when playing with bigger dogs (she's a pug). She'll be chasing and just commando roll, then get up and keep chasing. Someone will go "oh she tripped over, is she ok?" and I have to assure them it's part of the game and she did it intentionally  She also does it playing tug, but more just rolls onto her back with the toy in her mouth - and I'm still not sure if I'm meant to let go or not, so we just keep playing tug while she's laying on her back

You have to be a member to post, although she can still read posts as a non-member.

Which means she won't be posting, as she deleted her account. She posted a goodbye in the "Dear..." thread, but I think then deleted it.

he's sleeping hugging the water bowl. That's the cutest thing I've ever seen :D

Crystals In Urine Plus Sensitivity To Food.
minimax replied to will_454's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I was going to ask if they'd taken a direct sample from the bladder, or How the samples had been collected. The best samples we got from Max were from a needle through into her bladder, even fresh samples collected as she peed managed to pick up random stuff and give incorrect results a few times. -

Yep, cranberry tablets could work too. I break open the capsules and mix the powder with Max's food. The concept of cranberry is that it makes the bladder the type of environment that infection can't adhre too, basically. I'm not sure the cranberry juice would be concentrated enough to be doing that. You can get a special food for dogs with crystals, not sure how it would go for dogs with other sensitivities though. -

I'd be ditching the cranberry juice and replacing it with cranberry powder. The extra sugar in the juice is probably negating any effects. I have a pug who had sky high Ph and crystals in her urine, she was on acidurin for ages, to balance it out, as well as acv and a high meat diet (I feed raw). Gradually it settled, but it took a long time of constant uti's and poking and prodding until it cleared up. She is still on cranberry powder as a preventative. Some of this can be partly genetic, have you spoken to her breeder about if she's experienced it and How she dealt with it? And about the practicalities of breeding a dog who has these issues... -
I met a dog in the park yesterday called Amy... on her tag it said "Amy Whinehound" lol

Rehoming Rescue Dogs - How To Enforce Desexing ?

And how exactly do you suggest councils and shelters pay for vasectomies? My understanding is that the procedure is far more expensive. Shelter staff are not misguided nor amateurs, I have met the most incredible shelter staff from all over the country. Have you ever worked or volunteered in a shelter? I gather not from your comments, perhaps you should, either that or keep your stupid misguided comments to yourself! As I SAID, I have “not heard of vasectomies being widely done in dogs.”I don’t know whether it is more expensive, I can’t see why it would be, unless the alternative castration process is being performed by unqualified staff? Maybe ask a vet. Not really the point, but I should point out that a volunteer is by definition an amateur… Anybody who thinks that neutering males will control population is MISGUIDED, it simply does not work that way. If you read any of my posts, you would realise that I am vehemently opposed to irresponsible breeding. As such I fully support the mandatory sterilisation of mongrel BITCHES. In any (higher order) animal population the growth of the population is controlled by the reproducing females. That is Biology 101. Anecdotal comments about BYBs seeking entire male dogs are pointless. To be a BYB they require an entire bitch, to double their production they require a 2nd bitch, etc. Potentially a puppy farm could run a hundred bitches and still only require the occasional services of a single male dog. Shelters sterilising male dogs in the interests of population control is pointless. It’s not completely impossible, but to achieve population control we would need to reach a point where the vast majority of male dogs were sterilised. It’s pointless because if shelters could ever reach such a level, the control would long since have been applied by their sterilisation of bitches. No, "by definition" a volunteer is someone who offers to do something for nothing in return... -
There is a Boston Terrier in our dog park called Brooklyn - they REALLY wanted to call it Boston but decide it would be too silly, so figured another town would be okay  (we got talking because I have a pug called Boston, and when I talk about him people always expect him to be a Boston terrier!)

Promote Your Rescue Dogs
minimax replied to poochiemama's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
It's not an attack, it's a fact. Would you go to a podiatrist if you had a brain tumor? Probably not, as they don't have the experience. You'd go to someone who did have experience. I think wanting to promote rescue or be involved in rescue is great. Have you thought about getting some hands on experience so you can write with first hand knowledge and experience? Or helping out rescues in helpful ways like volunteering your time? -
Things That My Dogs Do To Cheer Me Up... Or Not
minimax replied to W Sibs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I get the exact same reaction....when I get back from the letterbox  Or from the bathroom, or the kitchen, or if I leave any room and return  -
Is it a specific/set day each week? If so, which day? I'm not entirely sure one of mine would be suitable, he might be too young (12 months), but he's extremely quiet and placid, but super loving and friendly and cuddly at the same time. He's not mat trained, but he's lap trained

If they have no idea and don't health test, the question still remains whether the resultant dogs are affected. If you could show it with figures and statistics it would be very powerful. You could change attitudes with that. Your argument was science vs luck, not whether the dogs are affected. If you want figured and statistics you could do your own research, but it's hard to show statistics for people who don't do something and aren't registered, as they aren't obliged to be accountable.

I took great delight in meeting my pup when he was a week old. Okay, so I didn't know which was mine, there were two black boys and it could have been either of them. But I held all the babies and it was awesome seeing him so little. However, I'd been on the list for him for over a year, so there was no "tyre kicking" going on. And although I'd never met the breeder in person, we'd spoken online and on the phone for well over a year. I completely understand though how some people don't like letting strangers into their house, and my breed is a lot different to yours so I can also understand mum might not be as welcoming to strangers around her babies. I wouldn't like a whole stream of randoms I'd never met traipsing through my house to look at two week old puppies, especially if they were "just looking" and not committed to buying. So I can see it from both sides. If you have a lot of pups, as MonElite does, that's potentially a lot of people coming through to look at them, even if it's just one or two people looking at each pup!

lol. No she isnt. Shes a highlighter sniffing junkie. Get thee to rehab, max! I was letting her sniff it last night, thinking maybe the smell is why she kept attacking me everytime I'd sit down with it, and my OH said if she turned to harder substances later in life it was my fault

But the basic groundwork would be Ok , though, wouldn't it ? Oh yes, I meant the dangerous bits where the dog is physically too big to safely maneuver without risk of seriously hurting itself.

Sammy The Anti-gardener And His Big Weekend
minimax replied to Katdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Next time you're headed to Sydney Park text men and if we're around I'll bring the pug crew out for a run! It might give Stevie a break if Max and Sammy go puddle jumping together, anyway  -
I'd be hesitant of a club that let a dog of that size participate, as well?
-
Max is exceptionally good at being a study buddy. About 5 seconds after I took this photo she pounced on the highlighter that she had been stalking  Not sure why, but she's obsessed with the damm highlighter!

Guess what? Sometimes completely irresponsible people sell puppies for next to nothing and they turn out to be fabulous dogs. and it's more by sheer luck than science. If you're going to make claims like this, let's do it properly. How do you know? Where's your evidence? I'd love to see some, because as far as I can make out there isn't any. Because irresponsible people breed random dogs without health testing or thought for anything. There is a lot of evidence for that. The chances of dogs being fabulous is sheer luck, what effort do they go to to ensure their dogs will be fabulous?
