You could try giving him something to pee against. My male will try and pee on the pet loo when It's raining outside and He doesn't want to get his precious paws wet, but He either stands on it and pees against the wall, or stands next to it and "aims" onto it. It's partly training him to do what you want him to do, but I think because most boys want to pee against something the pee trays can be awkward for them to learn.

A Raw / Vets All Natural Diet
minimax replied to zoeinthecity's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Were you surprised they recommended a behaviourist? Behaviour IS a specialised area . vets with normal training ,cannot , IMO, be expected to understand and be able to work with anatomy/physiology of multiple species/breeds ..... AND be comfortable in assessing and helping with behavioural issues . Its like human GPs - they have enough trouble working with physicalities - most are just not equipped to deal with the psycholgical ..or other specialised areas ...and they only have ONE species with which to deal! ;) Exactly, I'd be more concerned about a vet that WAS offering specialised diet or behavioural advice! -
Nothing new there. Do people actually feeds things without researching first?

How bizzare And not appropriate, but I had to re-read it a few times because I kept cracking up laughing at "Mrs Skitzo"

Yes, if people are going from her store to online or a normal grocery store then she might need to catch up. Plus if her products are available in normal grocery stores she really isn't a specialty store. Half the problem sounds like her attitude - she wants to teach people a lesson by charging them to browse, not recoup losses!

It can still cause bone abnormalities in full grown dogs -
I think it's bizzare, and it would turn me off going there! I don't need Celiac products, but I often look for speciality vegetarian stores and browse through them, I don't always buy things either because they are too expensive to justify, or because they didn't have anything I needed. And sometimes I do buy things - but I don't buy something every time I step into a store. To charge people to step into a store is insane, and if they are that grumpy and unwilling to help people I think they are in the wrong business! I understand small businesses are struggling, but I doubt this is going to help them.

A Brisbane specialty grocery store owner is charging customers to browse after becoming fed up with people who enquire but don't buy. A poster telling customers they'll be charged $5 for browsing if they don't purchase anything has been put up at Celiac Supplies in the suburb of Coorparoo. Owner of the gluten free produce store, Georgina, says she resorted to putting up the sign after spending hours each week giving advice to people who leave empty-handed. About 60 people a week would go into the store, ask questions and then buy the same or similar product at a supermarket chain or online. "I've had a gut full of working and not getting paid," Georgina, who didn't want her surname published, told AAP. "I'm not here to dispense a charity service for Coles and Woolworths to make more money. She has became frustrated as her prices often match that of the supermarkets but people still go elsewhere as they are under the impression it will be cheaper. She says the sign has turned some people away but others are more sympathetic and pay up. "I can tell straight away who are the rat bags who are going to come in here and pick my brain and disappear," she said. Australian Retailers Association executive director Russell Zimmerman says charging customers to browse will likely turn people away. He says a few stores in Queensland are charging to try on shoes or clothing but this is the first time he's heard of a browsing charge. Mr Zimmerman says to be competitive, smaller stores should emphasise what they offer that other stores don't and focus on providing great customer service. "If I walked into the store and was told I was going to be charged to browse my immediate reaction would be to leave," he said. "You are missing the opportunity for the browsing customer to actually buy from you." http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-national/qld-grocery-store-charges-5-to-browse-20130326-2gsbn.html

Well until I went back and read the 'Boxer' bit in the sub-heading, I thought it was maybe very much in the wrong forum! I was about to suggest the singles thread :p

A Raw / Vets All Natural Diet

See thats what the vet cautioned me about with my puppy, not that he knows exactly what we are giving her. Going by her breeders instructions atm. We don't feed that Van stuff tho.. So apparently not enough calcium is bad for them and too much is dangerous for them too ( why is that anyway, as I don't know ?? the too much calcium ?) Too much calcium can cause bone issues - rapid bone growth, but large bones with low strength/density. -

the diet stated gives plenty of calcium, it doesn't need a supplement. It can't hurt to make someone aware if a product that may be useful. You need to back off or reword your input because you are pissing me off. Maybe you need to stop giving advice that could be harmful? Adding a calcium supplement to a diet that contains edible bones and VAN could be dangerous, so providing this advice is irresponsible. -

$40 for desexed animals or entire animals owned by a dogs NSW member $150 for an entire animal. I really cant see how yearly rego will change anything- the same people will register their dogs, the same people wont. For non members of Dogs N.S.W its $150. $350. for an Entire dog. Pensioners get registration reduced to $15. unless its an entire,in which case they pay the full $350. it used to vary from council to council, but sounds like thats no longer the case? It hasnt varied from council to council for years in NSW - its state wide law and costs are fixed. Nope here is the link- max you pay is $150 for an entire dog http://www.dlg.nsw.g...istermycatordog My grandfather as a pensioner paid 50c to register his dog/yr back in the early 1990's in Bankstown. Doubt yearly rego would be that cheap anymore even for pensioners if they brought it back in. Most recent registration was charged $350.! What shire? The fees are set at state level. Where were you charged $350? And for one dog? Legislation has them set as above, each council can't charge what they want.

I'm not a vet, but I would have thought they could test iron much the way they do in humans? Did you phone another vet, just to get another opinion on the blood tests? I just googled, and google told me blood tests are pretty standard for testing dogs iron levels...

Sounds like you're giving this puppy an awful lot of supplements, have you considered letting him grow and build his own immune system for a while?
-
Wouldn't it be your local member?
-
What are you using it for, anything specific? My dogs get natural yoghurt for general digestion health, so if that's what you intend to use it for I'd investigate yoghurt rather than a supplement.

Dog Scared (?) Of Going Outside During The Day.
minimax replied to Mojopoodle's topic in General Dog Discussion
Definetely what you recommended - but also maybe if they can spend a day at home and see what goes on the in the backyard. Are there wandering animals who could come into the property? Anything outside like local small planes or helicopters that could frighten her? If she's fine outside at night, then it sounds like something might be going on out there during the day that has made her a bit wary of going out there, so finding out what it is could also be helpful in addressing the issue. I don't know what rural backyards face, I'm a city girl - but it sounds like something has scared this poor little thing! -
People are trying to talk to you, however the circles and random tantrums aren't the answers they were hoping for. But they are answers that say a lot about you, none the less. And this is a public forum, so people searching for information on you may read this. Is this the impression you want to give new potential clients? There are people here that are extremely experienced, so slow down, chill out and start again. Maybe answer Kavik's post to give some basic info about you, and why you do what you do etc
