Beware Dog Parks In Canberra
minimax replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
This story has been circulating since 2011 with a different city each time. The photo is identical to the one on Snopess Please delete the thread to avoid panicing people over nothing. Yet a good reminder about teaching your dog a good "leave it" and not letting them pickup random items from the ground. -
Beware Dog Parks In Canberra

This has been going round Facebook, with the suburb and park name changed depending on who posts it (even different countries). May be an urban myth, I've yet to see anything confirming it. -
What To Do When You Find A Wandering Dog.

Interesting. I wonder how many people know where their local pound is (I don't, maybe I should look it up  ) If you come under Leichhardt or City of Sydney councils, your "local" pound is the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home at Carlton, minimax... If you live where I live, depending on which street your pet is found, we have 3 different pounds it can end up at... how's that for confusion? T. I'm Canada Bay, so oddly enough it's Blacktown I'm such a city/inner westie girl, I couldn't even point to Blacktown on a map, so let's hope if I ever find a stray dog my vet takes it or I find the owner -
Max wouldn't use hers either, I think it was the noise. So when we got Boston I gave it to him and he loved it, so of course Max immediately decided it was her favorite bed and no one else was allowed to use it Reverse psychology works ;)

What To Do When You Find A Wandering Dog.

They seriously expected you to just put him back on the street? I don't know what the 'legal' obligations are, but surely their moral obligation is to keep the dog safe and not tell someone to put it back where they found it I'm glad you had the time to wait for the owners, I hate to think of those who might not have the time and might do just at the vet advises. -
They are designed for dogs, so don't break like normal bean bags. They have a hidden zipper, and no latch on the zip so nothing to open it with unless you stick a paperclip in to slide it open (takes a lot of effort to do so!). The material is super super strong, i'm sure you'll find destructo-dogs who would destroy them, but a normal dog wouldn't. They also have a removable outer cover which is washable for when it gets peed on or dirty, so you don't have to wash the whole thing. My guys love them because they are light enough to drag enough the house and put wherever they want them, and then they dig and make little holes to bury themselves in

Wonder where the invoice is for the bean bag bed I got my puppies, was probably around that price. Best beds I ever got (I have two) edit: found the invoice - $121.50 each (including delivery). http://www.barkaparka.com.au/

Dogs Seized From No Kill Shelter
minimax replied to HeelerLove's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Out of context that's a pretty well worded letter  -
I spent ages scouring the photo for her new toes, then realised you probably meant toys Happy Birthday vegan-pei!

There is no date on it, does anyone know if this page is current or not? http://www.dogzonline.com.au/puppy-ads.asp If it is current, what do you think of the proposed changes?

Maybe start with the 4mg dose, and if it isn't helping then creep it up to a max of 6mg?

Fussy Dogs - My Thought Ponder For The Day
minimax replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Once or twice my pug has refused to eat until his dinner had been put in the "correct spot", but he's big on routine and it wasn't so much about being fussy but that I changed his routine  -
Scarily enough I know exactly what you mean. I say it's a metallic sardine smell, but silvery fish is much more eloquent! And it's not smelling any different or infected so I guess that's a good sign (or as good as leaking stinky butts can be!) She does it more after dinner so maybe I'll try and get her in the habit of pooping after dinner to clear the pipes, so to speak, and see if that helps any. Otherwise, a chiro visit will be on the cards, or a butt plug

I'd not heard of Oreo's Law, but within 3 seconds of googling I got a clear explanation of what the were aiming to achieve, and how. Still trying to find that about Oscar's Law.
-
Good luck. We're on 9 pages now and all the supporters can do it copy/paste the vague statements from their website which say nothing of what they actually do. Which leads me to think their supporters don't even know what they are supporting. And I actually really want to know what this supposed law is, and would have thought it was easy to explain if you supported them so much
-
Yes, but what are they doing towards this. How are they going about it. What is their mission statement. They are large scale goals, supporting those goals is good, but not realistic unless it's broken down. So how are they going about abolishing the factory farming of companion animals? By protesting in the streets? By having celebrities saying "we want oscar's law"? That's not going to achieve the goal. By selling merchandise? What are the funds going towards? The mech is getting their name out there, but for what purpose? What is their name achieving Oscar's Law is confusion. It's broad global statements that mean very little action in the real world. Is Oscar's Law a law? Legislation? Please do not take a section of my post out of my context. If you want to discuss the present aims of Oscar's Law.... then find those aims yourself & do so. My post highlighted the additions I'd ask for. And, in an earlier post, I've already indicated that my idea of a useful campaign would not to be Oscar's Law.... but Oscar's Needs, Meet Them! My point for the last however many pages of this thread is that their aims are nowhere to be found, and the secret society of supporters are unable to tell me even the aims of the organisation they support with all their heart

I did. The website is useless, the whole "about oscar's law" page does not tell me what oscar's law is. The whole evasive nature is leading me to believe there is something to be evasive about

Cool. Seems you're all taught how to answer a question without answering it. That's fine but I'll ask again, who are the Dol member breeders you're all accusing of being puppy farmers? I know what MY definition of a puppy farmer is. What is OL's definition of what a puppy farmer is because they have never answered that before. I'm against animal cruelty as well. I simply will not tolerate half baked vigilantes breaking the law to break and enter, trespass and steal...or run down people with their cars. There are agencies who are entitled to investigate, not idiot civilian groups who take it upon themselves. You have a real flare for the dramatic Raz. Using big words and everything!!! AGAIN I must have missed my post accusing DOL breeders of being puppy farmers. Anyyyyway. Some of us actually want to know what Oscar's Law is, but it seems even their supports don't know  Or maybe it's like fight club and they aren't allowed to talk about it.

A lot of the time they have no control over what ads get played. They sell the ad space and "relevant" ads get shown. Although you'd think someone with some common sense would say "uh, maybe selling dogs in the classifieds on a pet rescue site isn't do good as it looks like we are advocating the buying and selling of dogs through classifieds?"
-
Good oh. Start with this one - how do you people define Puppy Farmer? So far I havent seen anything about what ya'all think is a puppy farmer. Define 'you people' You oscar's law supporters. I'm more interested in them telling us exactly what is it they actually support...
-
Which is true, it's all about research. Sure, but slamming a purebreed website? Troy is pretty careful about his breeder members. A couple of years ago I checked names that exported via McDougall against DOL and some were listed here. There's a breeder that sells dogs to a well known puppy farmer overseas. But I digress. I'm glad baifra is back, maybe they can answer some of our questions on Oscar's Law - like what it is?

Which is true, it's all about research. Sure, but slamming a purebreed website? Troy is pretty careful about his breeder members. I guess it depends on the definition of puppy farmer, but I thought any registered breeder could advertise on DOL? But I agree, slamming a pure breed website seems to add to their "rescue, don't buy" attitude.
