  1. I always have all the puppy shots, but no more after the 15 month ones.
  2. I've been wondering what would be the right way to dole out some tough love in this situation? How to you do it Sandra? I was on the verge of looking into it when Nixon started improving. It's all well and good to only reward good behaviour, but how do you let them know that it's undesirable for them to pee inside, particularly if you don't catch them in the act? I used the method of "time out", which really wasn't a punishment but more of a put in the kitchen without attention for a minute while I cleaned up the mess. But for my pup, withholding attention was a negative consequence and she hated it, and since she got such a huge positive reward for doing the right thing (happy noises and food treats), she quickly realised which was the better path of action to take (pee inside, no attention for a minute or so, pee outside and get attention and food. no brainer!)
  3. Last time I bought a harness labelled "pug" sized it would have fitted a 8 week old puppy. I ended up with a "staffy" size for my pug
  4. Love their sizing chart. Not sure how they think the same size will fit a dachie and a pug But nice collars, mine don't wear them but I've sent the link to some friends. Thanks :D
  5. Didn't affect my girl, she's just as manic as she was before she was desexed.
  6. Does he use the dog door when you're home, or walk out the main door with you to go bathroom? If you take him outside using the main door to toilet, he might not have the association to go out the dog door to toilet when he's alone.
  7. He won't be toilet trained at 18 weeks, so yes you're expecting too much ;) When you used pee pads, were they in the place he's currently toileting inside? At 18 weeks he won't be able to hold on all day, he will need to pee or poo, so unless you're coming home to let him outside, or he has access to outside, he needs somewhere to go. My guys are 15 months and 19 months, and they have pee pads when I'm not home as they don't have access to outside. Is there a reason he can't use pee pads when you're not home? Also, taking the pee pads away suddenly won't make any sense to him, if he's had them all his (short) life. You have to wean him off them. Some do this by moving the pee pad slowly closer to the door, even taking them out onto the grass so he can use them on the grass until he learns outside is the toileting place. But this is done over weeks, not in one day.
  8. One of the other DOLers has a tibbie boy that doesn't like other dogs & can respond aggressively. But he likes those that are brachy types... or close. Bit like himself. I think it's to do with the way they breathe and the fact that their faces are scrunched and look a bit aggresive and she just assumes they're being aggressive. Or maybe she's just confused by them. Pugs tails can confuse dogs too, because they are curly and might wag, but aren't as "obvious" as a normal dogs tail.
  9. Scientific research shows that people can make scientific research say whatever they want to prove their point ;)
  10. I don't really know what you're getting at. Gillespie doesn't appear to have an agenda and scrutinises the quality of research that has been published in journals. He doesn't claim to know everything, and in some of his explanations he points out that not enough is known about certain aspects of nutrition. Just because I live in Tasmania does not mean I live out in the bush... Cooking... preparing... same thing! Either way it takes more time than I already don't have. I may not cook for myself, but I do eat reasonably healthily. Just in regards to Gillespie, have you ever looked at what Dieticians say about his work? I don't know what job you do, but I spend a fair amount of time reading scientific articles. Part of why scientists do research is to build a 'body of knowledge' about a particular phenomenon. Each piece of research fits into this body of knowledge, and there will be variation and sometimes contradictions. That's why it's important to look at the body of knowledge developed from many research reports, and understand how their methods and findings fit into what's known about the phenomenon. Picking a few research reports here and there and interpreting them to suit your argument is not a good way to develop a body of knowledge; yet that is what Gillespie did. Is he the same Gillespie that writes the stupid quick-fix human diet books? If so, I wouldn't take much he said on canine nutrition seriously.
  11. However some cities have perfectly good tap water.
  12. It's one of those myths that get around, like a email chain where no one checks their facts before forwarding it.
  13. When you eat do you separate your food groups by digestion rates?
  14. I'm more worried about the ... pussy
  15. They have some awesome tights, I had to resist the urge to buy them because I'd have nowhere to actually wear them  They do have some really disturbing bikini's though
  16. I think you have to subscribe to this site to view it (kind of like a daily deals type thing) but it's worth it - http://www.pop.com.au/euro-threads-that-shun-subtlety-0 I think they might also have some products on Asos.com (Mr. GUGU & Miss GO) if you don't want to sign up, but check them out if you're into funky/out there type of clothes like me :D And heaps more awesome stuff
  17. Preempt the crate toileting and take him out during the night, before he has a chance to go in the crate. Is he whining or barking to be let out?
  18. I do hope the sole reason for wanting a Dogo isn't just looks. A lot of people choose their dog based on looks and livability. One of the big reasons I like my breed is their looks ... and I'm sure a lot of people like their breed because of their looks. It's not always about "being pretty on the inside" as we like to convince ourselves.
  19. And this is why I stay out of all discussions regarding diet. *eye roll* +1 I'm all for a serious discussion, but once it gets down to your method is wrong/mine is right it just gets boring. And do you really think you're convincing anyone that your method is excellent, with your attitude? I'm a raw feeder and you're not even convincing me.
  20. If you have to stick food down your dogs throat perhaps It's not the most appropriate food for the dog. Not every dog likes every food, feed What it does best on, not What some "method" tells you that you have to feed.
  21. But you aren't talking about the banned breeds? (I'm still trying to figure out why the OP used hashtags, this isn't twitter  )
  22. You said there should be tougher laws in place for dog ownership. Someone disagreed. What has that got to do with BSL? We don't need tougher laws, we need the current ones enforced. But this has been discussed to death.
