  1. Try All Natural Vet Care in Russell Lea. They titre test regularly so I imagine they would be reasonably priced. I haven't asked their prices yet though as mine only recently had the last puppy shot
  2. Where in NSW are you *cough* Max's are pretty good, she would win a prize for best random anal gland expression (you know, big drip on my shirt, that require the item of clothing being burnt and me soaking in a bath for a year straight), but I can't stay in the room when the vet does them so I can't comment on the intentional expressing
  3. Oh, you could be my pugs best friend
  4. I taught the pugs to catch treats (well, they try!). The point is to not let them have it from the floor, so if you throw it and they don't catch it, you pick it up and no treat. The only way they get the treat is if they catch it. They caught on pretty quickly (and Pugs fall into the "why should I/what's in it for me" category of training )
  5. Anal glands. Add some edible bone or bulk to his diet so he can express them naturally when he poops.
  6. They have a (pretty bare) website: http://unforgettablecreatures.org/ and Pet Rescue http://www.petrescue.com.au/groups/10660 and FB: https://www.facebook.com/UNCMelbourne
  7. LOL I love the "to pull the urine" If it actually had that lable on the sticker I'd probably buy it...
  8. Eep, wonder if there are pugs *goes searching* edit: aww, no pugs. I could colour it in and make it a pug
  9. Maybe they weren't? Must be a slow news day.
  10. Yes, but all the fruit is taken out at the same time so no doubt they smell it then, but don't make their move. It wouldn't smell until it's cut open, or the smell they like is the cutting open smell.
  11. Probably the smell. Dogs noses are a bucketload* better than ours. * not a technical measurement
  12. I think you'll find a "shmalt" isn't actually a breed. If your friends can't afford to outlay money for a dog, can she afford vet bills or ongoing costs to care for the dog, especially if there is an unexpected cost or accident? I know I just made it up. : ) Well you might need to do a refresher on the forum rules. Well I think you might find you have no sense of humor and may need to do a refresher in that subject. You've had a couple of shots at me for some reason and I am continuing to stay in good humor, please repay the compliment. : ) First forum rule ...."blahblah but we ask that you refer to it by its proper name (eg a pug-x or cavalier-x instead of the designer term 'pugalier')." If you want a compliment? Follow the forum rules. You'll probably get to stay here longer.

  15. Oh, that made me cry. I don't have any words for you that could make you feel any better so I'll just give you some *hugs*
  16. I grew up with Bichons as my parents bred them, but I never really loved them as a breed and had no desire to continue owning them as an adult. I've owned a variety of dogs (rescue poodle, rescue dally, rescue staffy x) before settling on my pugs. There are other breeds I'd like to own and I'd never discount owning another breed, but my pugs are only aged 2 years and 18 months and I'm happy with two dogs, so I don't plan on needing to think about it for a very very long time!
  17. We say 'ah!' or 'no!' loudly or smack a rolled up paper against the couch to make a noise as a warning when we see the puppy start to go for her, then if she does it anyway (she usually does, she's doesn't take much notice of verbal corrections) we usually put her in the bathroom for a couple minutes in timeout. We also sometimes just take her to another room or redirect onto something else if her harassment wasn't severe because our vet has advised us not to use timeouts too much because she might get used to it and stop caring. So you're punishing the older dog as well, making her more jumpy and distressed by creating loud sudden noises? If verbal corrections aren't working, perhaps leashing the puppy when she's around the older dog so she can't physically get to the older one is a start, to teach her what is appropriate and what is not.
  18. What do you do when the younger one harasses the older one? Are you teaching her it's not appropriate behaviour?
  19. How long is your lead if Hank was that far away from you that you couldn't get to him?
  20. Is chipping by the breeder mandatory in all states though? I know in some states it is and has been for a long time, but in others it's quite a recent thing. When I got Max she wasn't even chipped (breeder in VIC), and she's only two. So a lot of the time the breeder probably has (or had) no say in what goes on the chip details.
  21. Neither of my pedigree dogs have their prefix on their chip. One was chipped by me and one by the breeder. Although ones registered name is "missing in Boston" and I opted not to chip him in that because I thought it might cause some confusion if he was lost...
  22. Some are franchised, but their main aim is to just buy vet practices and take them over (they also do joint ventures and mergers). They are obviously offering good money for existing practices, but I don't see as an operator or franchisee any benefits for a vet to run under Greencross other getting ripped off on franchise fees and sharing income with them. Vets are usually a local thing that sells service and gains reputation....having Greencross written on the front window will probably cause avoidance if they are ripping people off....what does a Vet chain have to offer anyone They are publicly listed... so probably stocks or dividends etc And if it's the only vet in a local community people are going to use it because it's there.

  24. How terrible A muzzle on a frenchie, I can't even imagine who would think that's a good idea, or how they could not notice the poor thing was struggling to breathe? Was it a pup?
