"beware Of Dog" Sign Makes You Liable?
minimax replied to aussiecattledog's topic in General Dog Discussion
No, it doesn't absolve you of liability. -
Is the fur definitely white, or could it be fur missing (like a scar, or mites?)

Miniature Dachshund Pup - Questions & Advice
minimax replied to M1keAU's topic in General Dog Discussion
It's odd, my OH refuses to call them crates and refers to them as cages as she sees them as negative too, but even if the dogs aren't in the crates they choose a similar environment like under a table, or chair or between a piece of furniture and the wall, so they are enclosed in a small space. They naturally seek out that feeling, the crate just gives them another (more comfortable!) option if the chair or table isn't available to sleep under  -
Miniature Dachshund Pup - Questions & Advice
minimax replied to M1keAU's topic in General Dog Discussion
Very valid points. I guess. As I said, im hoping they have a good compromise, it is just some of the crates look a bit scary. Having said that, this one is quite $$$ and realistically, probably doesn't stand a chance to be in one piece in a few months time. One question I didn't ask before, what is the general consensus on recommended food? The breeder is providing a week or so and so long as it is proper stuff, i'd prefer not to change it so as not to upset her stomach and all. If you were a teeny tiny thing in a big new environment, would you be happy in an open space or looking for a safe enclosed den to hide out in while you suss things out to make sure nothing is going to come and eat you? I know I'm usually looking for a safe dark quiet enclosed place, not a bit open dangerous area when I feel scared, so maybe your pup will feel similar and like the idea of a crate? -
I've scored a few teeth scrapes when doing Max's nails - she reallllly hates her nails being done!

Tick protection is one of the things I don't mess with. I'm sure if there was credible evidence of natural tick prevention methods working they would be used by many, and highly discussed. That's why there is little discussion.

Maybe it works on the negative attention is better than no attention? It may be one of the only times they pay attention to them.

Digest is a poor source of protein (compared to other options). AAFCO definition of it is Material which results from chemical and/or enzymatic hydrolysis of clean and un-decomposed animal tissue. The animal tissues used shall be exclusive of hair, horns, teeth, hooves and feathers, except in such trace amounts as might occur unavoidably in good factory practice and shall be suitable for animal feed. Yep, I googled and saw that, sounds appetising Combined with the fact they don't even tell you what meat is in it (generic poultry as the main ingredient), I'd be looking for something better quality.

I have one stubborn pug who sometimes comes when she feels like it, and she doesn't get a reward unless she comes the first time I call her (ie: drop what you're doing and come now). She gets grumpy, but I tend to reinforce with her what I'm looking for by using her re-call word about a minute later when she's not far from me so that she can see that a quick response gets a treat. Next time she tends to come back much quicker, and it often only takes one "I'll come when I feel like it" without a reward to get her recalling back at full speed.

"chicken digest" sounds pretty odd

Sweet, I've just re-activated my FB after having a break for exams so I'll have a look. I meant to ask Teangi the other day if she had any christmas cards but I forgot, as she posted me something this week, so I'll grab them from you :D There's an email address in one of the comments on FB for the pei cards, so I'll send an email there to order some. Thanks

Okay, that time of year again when I go searching for rescues or other animal related charities who are selling Christmas cards or calendars or other Christmas type gifty things! Can anyone link me to places selling them, please? I've done a bit of a fb / Google search but didn't come up with much in the way of cards. Thanks :D

Thanks minimax! Problem is there are so many contradicting facts on google when I search. I'm also going off advice on another forum that deals specifically with liver issues. Prednisilone is different to predisone, which is where you may be getting confused. One they can have, and one they can't, it seems.

That harness used to be loose on him? How was he ever that little?

I keep meaning to look at both Pugs bellies but keep forgetting! Max has a really hairy belly (most unlady-like!) but her coat is dark shining black although her mum is fawn and the whole litter was black (I recall her breeder saying something about her dad having never thrown a fawn pup? could be making that up but it sticks in my mind for some reason  ) Boston does have a pinkish belly from memory, I'll have a look tonight when he throws himself on my lap for bellyrubs.
-
A quick Google says prednisilone is used in people with hepatic failure. No personal experience though, sorry. Just what my 2 second research showed, I'm sure there is more out there to confirm or deny though if you have a look :)

Boston hides Max's toys under the lounge cushions, as well as all the bones. Or I'll be sitting somewhere and look down and have a pile of toys left at my feet

I knew you'd be along with specifics, thank you! Maybe now the OP will believe it. Except I made a typo on the section number! Edited in my quote, because even brilliant people make typos sometimes ;)

That's a good question. By the way, I only chose the photo of the clear fawn Pug for his coat colour. I didn't even notice his nails or ears etc until RuralPug mentioned it. I feel like I've made a faux pas by starting this topic, like it's taboo or something. I don't understand how talking about it means you're putting it before something else?? I'm so confident about my own personal integrity (and my own high standards) that the thought of putting colour before something else would never cross my mind. It just wouldn't even enter my brain! In fact, I can't even imagine thinking like that! 1: Because you were insanely rude to someone who merely bought up the point about putting colour before conformation etc 2: Comments like "I'd only breed if I saw a DNA test that proved they had whatever colour" 3: Not even knowing the breed standard

Which part? The part from those with much more experience than you in the subject?

And research beyond the sydney morning herald when regurgitating such "facts"! actually I first read it in dogs life, than the Sydney morning herald and that's where a majority of their population obtain their 'factual' information from, you would have to expect them to be accurate on legal matters. I don't have time to research every aspect of every part of my life. I read it was illegal, know someone whom was fined plus it seems like common sense to restrain a dog in a moving vehicle. I found my factual legal sources from a google search which led me to the rta/rms website and law society :) It is common sense, but it's not the law.
-
I got this impression too, like they think they are doing you a favour by offering to take the dog at no cost, even though it may inconvenience their current dog. Well meaning maybe, but odd. Very odd.

That's exactly how Boston sleeps! I couldn't figure how to described it so I said between my legs, but he snuggles in behind my knee and rests his head on my leg, pinning me so I can't move

Several times I've gone to let Max out to find she's stepped on the button thing and undone her seat belt. It's now duct taped so she can't, but she never moved even when she could as she knows going in the car means lay down and have a nap as that's how she was trained.
