  1. From my many many years on public transport, that's not uncommon :/ School children who travel on school bus/train passes are required to give up their seat for any fare paying person who standing. It's a requirement of their pass. More often than not they put earphones in and look really involved with their phone, taking the "if I don't look up I can't see anyone standing therefore I can stay seated" approach.
  2. Flea, tick, heartworm meds etc arent prescription. If you do a search you'll find lots of websites that have good prices. Budget pet products and oveds are usually amongst the cheapest.
  3. One of my pups was flown to me, I've still never met her breeder. If you only look locally you're cutting down you're options dramatically. But look at the breeder pages at dogzonline for breeders.
  4. Everytime she's in the newspaper she says she has severe diabetes, or unstable diabetes which is why she has the dog, but also refuses to tell anyone's who asks what disability the dog is assisting with and threatens anyone who wants to know before allowing her access ... then posts pictures or talks about all the junk food she eats next to pictures of her new tattoos, cars or holiday photos. Anyone who gives her money is as nutty as she is.
  5. Agreed! ETA: She's just been donated $405 in the last 19 days! Absolute rip-off. We all have to pay for our own dogs teeth to be cleaned, why can't she!!!! On this, I just saw that the Vet work was done pretty much for free by the vet, and a pet crisis place donated funds as well ... so I guess the donations from people towards his Vet Care just went into her pocket.
  6. That's odd, mine stare at the food. If I drop something on the floor they don't notice as they are so focused on where the food is!
  7. Are you applying for places that are actually advertised as pet friendly?
  8. Go put it on your vag and tell us how it feels.
  9. Any doctor who says they won't sign off on the disability paperwork she screams discrimination and threatens all sorts of things until she finds one that does. I've known her for years, it's all stuff you'd think was a fictional story but unfortunately it's true.
  10. I guess attention seeking could be a legit disability and reason to cart a dog everywhere you go, yes.
  11. He is accredited Then how is he a fake?? Same way you'd be a fake if you walked around with a seeing eye dog without having any vision issues.
  12. I googled the issue (google is magic, I recommend it) and came up with this thread which might help solve the problem: http://www.flickr.com/help/forum/en-us/72157638918211264/
  13. Agreed! ETA: She's just been donated $405 in the last 19 days! Absolute rip-off. We all have to pay for our own dogs teeth to be cleaned, why can't she!!!! She was inter-state a while ago staying with a friend of mine (we used to be IRL friends, until I realised she was a psychopath) so she had money for travel. Priorities I guess. Anyway. I see this thread being deleted soon, as it usually does when it heads in this direction
  14. You can do both, but I think it depends on the condition. I looked into a seizure response dog, and when I first looked into it you had to go through an organisation and it could take years to even start the process, now I believe that you can train an existing dog and get it certified. If my seizures ever start becoming uncontrollable again I will be looking into training either my current dog if he's still young enough or a new dog. This is interesting. I met a woman with a young dog of her own that she claimed was a service dog because it would tell her when she was about to have a seizure or when her blood sugar levels where out of whack. She already had the dog and said she got it qualified as a service dog. It was still quite young and I was skeptical it could do what she claimed. I beleive she has a web site and facebook page where people can donate money towards his upkeep. That's the one people are talking about. She also says he's a mental health assistance dog, so you get a different story depending on the day of the week.
  15. really? How did you find out? There was a thread a while ago with a lady that was doing it. Things like "my real estate says I can't have my dog in my rental place, I'm going to start the process of training him to become a service dog so I'm allowed to keep him and have him anywhere I want" tend to give it away. Along with changing stories and telling different people different things and excessive dramatics etc
  16. And kermit? Thimgs like this makes me so angry, it ruins it for genuine people.
  17. When training pugs best to make sure they Can't see the food, otherwise you have no hope of getting them to do anything! I taught my girl easy tricks first such as spin and stand from a sit so she learnt what I wanted her to do with those weird hand movements. Once She learnt doing what I guided her to do got her food, the other things like drop became a little easier (though drop for a pug is often the hardest). Have you thought about clicker training? Oh, when my girl reaaally wants something she will run though her whole bag of tricks to see which one will get her the food, it's pretty cute
  18. My pugs love bitey face. Max sometimes gets a little too into the game and tries to involve the humans and never understands why we don't appreciate her play-biting in the direction of our faces  They do get very confused when a dog with a nose tries to join in on their squishie face bitey-face games, they don't understand that game at all and it usually leads to a chasey/zoomie/I'll get you're nose kind of game
  19. I've never seen dogs on seats at the Vet and it would never occur to me to invite them up. I wouldn't do it at anywhere else but my house, even then it's the lounge not the dining room chairs etc
  20. Really have we?? Scarey I have not heard of one in twenty years. Just an extra thing to add to my list :( Believe it was Leichhardt. Council wood chip/ mulch seems to be where they are. Yup, this is where we are and our local park woodchiped this season, all the dogs love rolling in the giant piles. I've also heard ticks tend to be in woodchiped / mulch areas.
  21. So many threads on this already. Search function us your friend.
  22. oh thanks for the info. Do you see any ticks on them? I mean one or two or a lot... ? I've never seen a tick on them, I'm just paranoid :p
  23. Best calling a vet in the area you're going to and asking them about the prevalence. I cover for ticks year round though, and I live within a 10k radius of the CBD, because my guys swim a lot and are roaming through trees and parks and whatever and I just feel safer.
