Prog Test After Matings, Would You Bother?
steppenwolfstaffords replied to steppenwolfstaffords's topic in Breeders Community
Thanks for your reply, I was only going to do prog tests as last time she missed but I never got matings but did AIs which were done much later. I've been told her mothers line breeds around the time I got thes matings. So am assuming my ais were too late as we just did them as she was standing for the dog but he wasn't doing the job. Doing a third n final mating tonight n ringing prog vet tomorrow as she's off work till then. -

Prog Test After Matings, Would You Bother?

If you were going to do prog tests and got matings before you got around to doing so (using an outside dog) would you still do a prog test to test for ovulation or not bother about it as you got matings? -

Was wondering what the difference is between a cough that sounds like they're pulling on a lead and kennel cough. Is this coughing Like this a sign of kennel cough or just a dry throat.

Phatom Preg Month After Due Date
steppenwolfstaffords replied to steppenwolfstaffords's topic in Breeders Community
Thanks for the replies the bitch is in a pet home so i can only offer advice on what to do and it seems her supply is stopping. :) -
The bitch in question would have been due mid may n had had a phantom end of June. Would this mean her next heat might set back a month or should come on time? Also any tips to help dry up milk supply? Thanks :)

Thanks for that :)

That is a little high I know someone recently collected and stored frozen for $4-500
-
Thanks for that the dog is older has sired litters bit on his last try no pups a backyard ai was dog n sperm was cloudy (sperm) so wondered if he's infertile now as I'd like to try it again
-
Thanks for that the sperm would just need testing for fertility for a dog for live mating, not needed for storage at all
-
Hoping someone could give me a rough estimate on the costs to have sperm tested for fertility? Thanks

Bitches Heats And Mating
steppenwolfstaffords replied to steppenwolfstaffords's topic in General Dog Discussion
The bitch i was discussing with someone else about was only mated this week she stood from day 7 and was mated with the aid of a stud master on day 10, 12 & 13 where the stud master said on the day 13 she was really ready and that was her ideal day for mating and that she should be mated from that day onwards ....the very next day she had gone off and wanted to KILL the dog and only the night before was standing and flaging for the dog and the stud master...the owner of the bitch told me that it was a good sign shed gone off cos they beleived that when a bitch concieves they will go off (out of standing for the dog) very quickly... this is only why im asking cos bitches ive bred before ive never seen this hapen they are always willing to be mated still (if still in their days for mating) and have never had a dog in the prime time of being mated have a mating and they very next day want nothing to do with the dog ... see to me if this bitch was only at day 13 and told that its her first day of being in her prime for mating to go off the next day is odd to me ...maybe she has conceived and fingers crossed for themn :) -
Bitches Heats And Mating
steppenwolfstaffords replied to steppenwolfstaffords's topic in General Dog Discussion
Absolute B/S - they stay in season for the same amount of time. Sorry i didnt mean go out of heat i mean go out of being willing to stand and be mated.... -
Hi i recently heard this and was wondering if other poeple think that its true or just a myth etc.... i got told that if when mating a bitch that she conceives she will go off heat very quickly(straight away) while a bitch that has been mated and didnt conceive will continue to be on heat as per usual and go off in time. Has anyone else seen this happen/beleive this to be true...i just find this very interesting as id never heard it before. Bitches ive bred in the past who have gotten pregnant still had thier usual matings where as i got told that a bitch who conceives usualy goes off straight away and wont let a dog near here again. Look forward to hearing peoples experiences

Frozen Semen Ais
steppenwolfstaffords replied to steppenwolfstaffords's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks everyone for your replies , i would be using noahs crossing if and when i do the AI. i just wasnt sure how frozen had to be used...am not looking for the cheaper option but i was wondering if cos its frozen and has less "life" after being thawed i wondered if it needed to be done surgically or an tci was enough. mind you i do cow Ais and they are done using frozen and done TCI so i dont see why dogs need to be done any differnet (however) dog semen if imported is far more expensive then bulk bought cow semen so you will want it to work. i notcied some of you mentioned doing more then on AI, is this to just make the chances greater or thats how many need to be done cos when importing semen you may end up with only one breeding so therfore can only do the one AI?? thanks again -
Hi i was wondering if those who have done this can help me with some information regarding using FROZEN semen. Can you do transcervial ais with frozen semen or does it have to be done surgically. Ive seen prices for both and transcervial ive seen as low as $50 for an AI and sugical ive heard can be up to $900 + i underdstand there is prog testing involved either way am just wondering which was frozen has to be used or can it be used either way. Thanks
