  1. Poor lil Italian greyhound!! Bruised so badly!! He just woke up and stretched on my hubby, so I got him to snap a better picture with the flash on!! Poor Murphy has never had so much attention paid to his bits before!
  2. There's a lot of stitches because they had to go exploring for his other testicle which never descended. I think it has stopped bleeding now, I'm too frightened to move him and look, because he's happily asleep!!
  3. Up near his penis? I think that's just a shadow from the light
  4. Bad photo, but you get the idea.. I think it may be because he constantly moves around.. Yesterday he was jumping around like normal, and he just doesn't like to stay still when he has energy. But when his energy is gone, he sleeps and curls up. Typical whippet!
  5. It's coming from the incision site I think, just a little bit. If it hasn't improved by tomorrow I'll ring the vet and see what they think. Thanks :) No swelling, bruising or heat either. Looks clean and not inflamed, just bleeding a little bit.
  6. Our Whippet just turned a year old, so we had him desexed on Tuesday. They had to go looking in his abdomen as one of his testicles were retained. He has a lot of stitches, and tonight they started bleeding. He seems his usual self, just a bit more tired than normal and less bouncy. He wears a cone on his head whenever we can't watch him 100%, in case he pulls his stitches out. Anyway, is it normal for them to bleed at all? I've never had a dog before him, so a bit worried! Thanks in advance :)
  7. He's old enough to make puppies already? Oh gee!! Guess we will book him in over the next few weeks then!! Thank you :)
  8. Also, will they remove both the testicles? One of our friends got her cat desexed and they left both the testicles there.. I guess they snipped and tied off the tubes or something?
  9. It might have been mentioned, it was a while ago and we were both excited so didn't take in everything that was said!! I just didn't know if it was common or the price sounded ok or over the top. The vet said it didn't matter when it was done, but we'd like it done before he's 12 months old. Is there a preferred age for it to be done? Thanks for all the help :)
  10. Hi everyone, we have had our Whippet for 6 months now, he's 8 months old. He only has one testicle that has descended. The vet said because of this it will cost up to $300 to get him desexed, compared to $100 if both were descended. Does this sound normal? Thank you :)
  11. Thank you for the last few posts We will only use the crate for night sleeping (in our room) and if we have to go out somewhere without the dog. We'd never leave it outside!! Is it also possible to learn how to groom them properly yourself? I don't mind buying all the equipment as I enjoy grooming animals!! I'm guessing the breeder may be able to help there?
  12. What a lovely post You're not going to make me feel bad for putting my children's safety first, so don't waste your time
  13. Oh and those who have been recommending different breeds, we have visited a few breeders, mainly maltese, mini daschund, jack russells and a mini schnauzer breeder. We have also been in contact with a shih Tzu breeder and a whippet breeder. So please don't think we have just rushed in with no thought. It will be six months at least before we get a pup. The kids will be 18 months and nearly 3 by then! And hopefully I've learnt more on training
  14. I don't know why everyone thinks we struggle with basic training because our other dog jumped all the time?! He was well trained with everything. Jumping was the one bad thing he did. So because he did that we must be terrible owners/trainers? He wasn't a Labrador either as someone thought. He was amazing on leash walking, walked next to us the whole time, never went infront. If someone would greet us on the street or in a park, he would jump. He could do an amazing number of tricks with around a 95% success rate. He was toilet trained and never had an accident in the house from 4 months old! He was perfectly crate trained. He would wait up to five minutes infront of his food bowl filled with food until we said 'eat'. Our eldest could take a bone or toy from him!! He'd have one in his mouth, our eldest would approach him and he'd drop it between his paws and let them take it!! He wouldn't come inside unless he was asked to. The only bad thing he did was jump. And believe me, we love that dog so much. And yes we spent $350 on getting a one on one trainer/behaviouralist come into our house for three one hour sessions, and even he suggested that we should get a much smaller dog. There was an improvement in his jumping, but the trainer said it may take a few years to perfect it, and we just couldn't wait that long. But yes, we got in touch with his breeder and they recommended a couple to rehome him with. And we get regular updates and photos, and visits So to those who think we should never get another dog as we struggle with basic training, please don't comment again. For those with helpful advice re schnauzers temperements, thank you so very much, I really appreciate it!! But one question I still need the answer for, what size crate would be best for one??
