Pet Industry Setting The Rules For Puppy Farms
Salukifan replied to samoyedman's topic in In The News
Accredited by the PIAA no doubt. ;) One of Australia's largest puppy farms was run by a vet. The AAPDB president is a vet. How will one vet visit every breeder every year??? All I can say is the "don't buy a puppy from a pet shop" message must be starting to work. :) I smell spin. -
Guess The Breed Again - Pippa Foster Pup

Considering that the DNA database used wouldn't know a Bull Arab from a Bedlington Terrier, I doubt it. ;) -
Guess The Breed Again - Pippa Foster Pup

OK, scratch the Whippet. I think she's too solid for there to be any Whippet in the mix. I'm with the Ridgeback/Stafford??? mix folk now. ;) -
No but they have howled at bagpipes in the past. Can't say I blame them. ;)

Guess The Breed Again - Pippa Foster Pup

Do you know the area of her origin Staffyluv? If she's a country pup, then some pigging mix and maybe Whippet too would not be out of the question. -
Guess The Breed Again - Pippa Foster Pup

Could be some Whippet in there- have you got a standing shot, side on? -
Whippets can be destructive as youngsters. Most grow out of it. Problem is that its self rewarding behaviour.

Keep feeding Royal Canin but only feed it one meal in three. Substitute raw meaty bones for the other two meals.
-
Oh FFS, I didn't agree with the dog being shot either!!!!!! But on that note, all contribution from me ceases. I respect other people's opinions enough, not to be insulting. You should try it. Oh well, you got what you wanted though. Yay for you.

You can lead a horse to water.... How anyone can describe the shots Janba posted from the video as the fawn dog "just standing over" a dog beats the living shite out of me. That people are prepared to write off what I say as "breed bias" is incredibly frustrating. How my statements in the other police thread contribute to that bias confounds me. Oh hang on, I made a unsupportive statement in a thread that happens to be about bull breeds. That must be it. No, I"m no "expert". I have made no claims of that, I have merely describes what I see on the video. On the other hand, I DO own a breed with very high prey drive and I haven't got my head stuck in the sand about it. I know what some of their "play" signals and its not roses for the object of the attention. What's that line... "if you can't see there's a problem, perhaps you are part of it". If that video makes a trainer as experienced as Cosmolo's blood run cold (which is the impact it had on me), all I can say is I know I'm not imagining what I see and it worries me that people are so defensive of a particular type of dog that they cannot even concede that there was an issue with the behaviour of the dogs in that video. Its clear that folk are seeing what they want to see. But such tolerance of aggression towards people and animals within the dog community is to the peril of us all. If bull breed fanciers want unqualified support for their version of what happened in that video, I suggest you post it in the BSL forum that those who are less than gushing in support of all aspects of every bull breed dog have long learned to avoid.

What Tv Shows Does Your Dog Like To Watch.
Salukifan replied to pirate's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dogs like horse racing and most wildlife documentaries. The toy poodle likes cattle stampedes in Westerns - they really get her going  -
Of course I would. My guess is that police announced themselves at the front door and were in the yard when the 'suspect' bolted out the back door. My dogs know all about police dogs - we have had two next door over the years I've lived here. My dogs are amazingly brave and bold toward them from behind the fence. ;) Securing dogs is something I imagine is a pretty standard procedure when searching homes. It's not like they are an unusual feature of suburbia. We've seen a few incidents reported here where police have had issues with dogs though. I think the last Australian one, it was the officer who was on the recieving end of the aggression.

So it renders the dog sterile but does not affect testosterone production??

Ok To Advertise Puppies In The Classifieds?
Salukifan replied to Mrs Rusty Bucket's topic in General Dog Discussion
I voted "YES" But only because there isn't an option for "HELL YES!" No point in us all banging on about the need for puppy buyers to source their dogs from responsible breeders unless they can find said breeders. Personally I think ads that contrast good breeders pups from the rest are the go. I'd be doing something like this: How much better would that be than: For a start it gives buyers an idea of what things their pups SHOULD come with. And getting price out of the way deals with tyre kickers and lets buyers know what they are in for. -
True, lots of opinions but less discussion of the footage itself.
-
People discussing the behaviour of the dogs aren't taking a stab at bull breeds either. We haven't blamed the dog who was the victim of the attack, suggested that "someone else" should have been called or suggested that the attacking dogs were somehow completely blameless. Believe it or not, for some of us breed is irrelevant. We aren't seeking to demonise the dogs. But gee it would be nice to see you attempt to stand in the shoes of the police officer, given what he had been told and how the dog came on. Its all well and good to talk about what you might have done and how any of us might have acted but the only decision that counts is whether or not HE thought the dog constituted a threat. Allegations that he "charged in threateningly" and the like simply don't stand up in the face of the actual footage. Frankly that's all I've been wanting to discuss.

Its as I said earlier a "play bow" is not necessarily an invitation to play nicely- its meaning is dependent on the rest of the dogs body language and people need to realise this. Yep, I said it earlier in the thread too. But apparently this doesn't apply to bull breeds. ;)
-
I'm not one to engage in should's and should nots, but as I say in every thread of this nature, the police are the ones wilfully endangering the welfare of these dogs, whether it be through exposing them through pets and guard dogs or to the suspects themselves. Yep. The dog is there to take the hit instead of a police officer. That's part of their role. But if you're going to suggest that they recklessly put the dogs in harms way and don't give a toss about their welfare, that's a bridge too far.

If you look and listen at 1.043 onwards when the beagle and fawn dog are not in the picture the screaming is very bad, I think I will need several more wines and to hug my dogs. Don't worry, I noticed. I'm still coming to terms with those who blamed the Beagle for "not responding to the invitations to play".
-
Is it just me or is the Beagle injured? It looks to be on three legs to me.
-
Can you give me the approx time in the video. I don't think the brindle dog was a bad with the beagle as the fawn dog but definitely more aggressive towards the people. ETA I really do need to do this in proper video editing software. 0.49 to .056. Wish we could crop and enlarge the interaction. The last second of the brindle dog on the beagle's left is telling. That poor bloody beagle. I find its screaming the most distressing thing in the video.
-
Thanks. Can you possibly do the "play bow" with the brindle dog including the change of position? Sorry but I look at that series with the fawn dog and can only think "playing.. my @rse it is".
-
Yep, you got it thanks. That is not neutral behaviour and the dog comes on quickly.

At last, someone with a grasp of technology arrives. Thanks Janba. Can you check to see one second more? I think the whole front end of the dog is off the ground and its mouth is wide open. I think its at 2.23
