  1. If you know you have a reactive dog then the onus is on YOU to manage your dog, particularly when different dogs and handlers are around. Some people have real blind spots when it comes to their dog's behaviour. If that had happened at a trial, she could find herself on the end of a suspension for quite some time. You aren't telepathic - how were you supposed to know her dog would do that? That said, I treat every dog I don't know as a potential for trouble and stay clear. If the dog left her side to snap at yours, the responsibility was all hers though. Some people are bloody hopeless at reading their dogs and preventing trouble. And they are the ones that create issues for the rest of us. Definitely talk to the instructor but I'd cage it in "what should I have done" terms. Clubs can be funny things and as a newb, it pays to be a bit cautious about upsetting longer standing members.
  2. Is it just me or does the dog have hair loss around its throat? Please God let the dam of the litter not be blue as well.
  3. And who became obtuse and evasive rather than answering the questions about his position. Must you always be the person in the right Tralee? Just because a bunch of people disagree with you, it doesn't make them a lynch mob.
  4. And yet, strangely, you've outlined the breeding philosophy that most of the more knowledgeable and careful conformation breeders I know follow to a T. I don't know anyone who isn't looking back two generations and more! Personally I don't have an issue with a breeder planning to keep nothing from a litter. If you have good dogs and enjoy raising litters then why not? It's not like the world is being swamped with ANKC/WKC registered litters is it? I understand why people get defensive when questions are asked but where's the real harm in asking? I think most folk only want to know that the potential litter has been carefully thought through.
  5. I've never found the black shampoos to be particuarly effective. I'd suggest you use a whitening one on the white bits and a decent conditioning shampoo on the rest. For whitening, Chris Christensen and Plush Puppy are both good. Next one I buy will be the Agrani as I find their other products really good.
  6. I hope you've noted Diva's point that litter brothers are not genetically identical. You should also opt for the best phenotype. No point in using a gee whiz pedigree if the dog is less than superior.
  7. If he didn't like sitting on a mat, why would you coat him? A serious grooming out of his undercoat would probably be as effective anyway. I'd give access to shade, a ton of cool water and the mat. If he chooses not to use it, don't fret. Dog's can pant to get cool.
  8. Where's the nastiness? The best interests of that pup would see it vaccinated at 6 weeks and rehomed with a microchip at 8 weeks. It really is that simple. Any one rehoming pups younger is NOT doing right BY THE ANIMAL.
  9. I would never put a cool coat on a dog that's just exercised or on an unattended dog. Go for a mat.
  10. So does that help you make the correct decision about your puppy? Not my puppy, to many ppl are quick to jump to conclusions and make judgement, this doesnt bother me.. however many novices needing advice would be put off from asking for help .. once again thanks to those who helped. Perhaps you might like to consider the advantages in having your friend put in a bit of effort this side of getting the puppy. After all, he or she will be the one having to do it once the pup arrives. Given that little of the advice given is going to be acted upon, I hope things turn out for your friend. I sincerely hope that this pup gets the advantage of careful socialisation and ongoing training - it's going to need it.
  11. It isn't. Tralee was advocating that people should take the law into their own hands when they thought a dog was being mistreated. He wasn't getting any support for the idea. Your dog is a good example of why such notions should not be acted upon.
  12. I'd be progesterone testing and taking her on her best day/s There will always be other trials.
  13. was wondering when microchipping was going to come up. Pup also has to be microchipped before being sold. So a pup illegally sold before 8 weeks, with no microchipping and a vaccination that is useless. Yeah great breeder the poor mite is coming from. A pup of a breed easily confused with a restricted breed and in all likelihood sold without papers in a BSL state to someone who's not demonstrating a lot of thought about what it will mean to own such a dog. Yep, better and better.
  14. You'd be better off calling the people who administer such laws in NSW. Ring the rangers. You seem to be putting in a lot of hard yards for your "friend". If you are the buyer of this pup then all I can say is you're ignoring one hell of a lot of warning bells. Let me guess - pups won't be microchipped either?
  15. If you ask Troy, he might pin it. It deserves to be read by every puppy buyer before they choose a breeder. Owey's tragedy might spare another family the same heartbreak.
  16. Sounds like someone's had the dog breed encyclopaedia out then - hardly a first for a pound or shelter. I only hope this girl goes to a knowledgeable home or rescue.
  17. The dangers of having a three week old pup vaccinated are that it will die OR the vaccination will be completely ineffective. If your friend takes that pup and it isn't vaccinated the effect will be the same - the pup will have no protection from a number of potentially lethal diseases. I sincerely doubt that this pup has pedigree papers and if it does then the seller is in breach of the ANKC code of ethics and I'm pretty sure at least one or two NSW laws. Does that sound like a responsible breeder to you? Tell your friend to see the pedigree papers for both parents AND evidence of the breeders registration with Dogs NSW. I doubt both dogs will be on Main Register and that a current prefix is held. I think there is every chance your friend is being told a bunch of porkies. put to one side the ethics of the breeder for now, what is the difference between my friend geeting the pup vaccinated at 6 weeks or a breeder vaccinating at 6 weeks as long as the pup is kept isolated until it has immunity? Well, for a start, this pup should be with it's littermates until it's 8 weeks old but that aside, can your friend provide a safe place that's had no dogs near it for months and ensure that everyone that comes into contact with the pup is sterile and has had no contact with other dogs without washing and a complete change of clothes? I'll assume there's been no discussion of what health tests the parents have had??
  18. seems a bit odd..esp if pups are papered ..AND going at 6 weeks ? Clear breach of ANKC code of ethics.
  19. O K - guess someone will have a reason.... Not a legitimate one.

  21. No a fawn english staffy Sorry american staffy Even more like a Pitbull. Does your friend understand what falling foul of Breed Specific Legislation could mean for her pup? If not, she needs a crash course.
  22. I didn't think there were any in the country. Who did the breed ID?
  23. No a fawn english staffy With no papers. In a state where such dogs can be confused for APBTs and declared dangerous... Not great.
  24. Yes i thought it would be ineffective but couldn't find info online about possible dangers, i'l suggest she get it done when she picks pup up. thnx ARRRRRGH!! A completely unvaccinated pup out in the world with no immunity to parvovirus? Think about it for a minute. This is a disease spread by everything from shoes to walking on infected ground. That pup shouldn't be going ANYWHERE without its first vaccinations. Does your friend actually want her pup to LIVE???
