Ditto.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Rescue remedy for both you and your Malamute and time is all I can suggest.
-
They should also be shelling out to their Council for keeping their bitch entire.
-
Depending on what state they are in, it will be illegal to sell the pups without vaccination or microchipping. In Victoria, they will be legally responsible for any inherited conditions the pups have. If the BIL thinks there's money in ACD cross pups, he needs his head read.

Ummm... if it's the group I'm thinking of, then they are savvy enough to know that certain orders do not follow a dog interstate... T. Given that it's an offence to rehome a declared DD ANYWHERE without notifying Council, they don't have to. :) Talk about a seriously effed up set of ethics. How could ANYONE knowingly rehome a dog with such a history??? Not that it wasn't done locally but one of DOL's self professed rescue angels a few years back...TWICE.
-
All I can say is that if this group would knowingly rehome a dog with a bite history on kids or a DD declaration, "savvy" is not a word I'd use. No PR expert is going to get you out of a negligence law suit and potentially some criminal charges if the dog causes harm in it's new home. I'd call it gross stupidity myself. It's not defamation if you can prove the accusations are true... It's actually more compllicated that that. Why doesn't your friend simply report the dog? If the issue is the dog, then deal with the behaviour of the dog and report it to council. A documented history of biting should be enough for a DD declaration and that will stop the dog being rehomed into unsuspecting hands. Even a rescue group with a PR savvy front person can't skirt that one.

Stopped A Dog Attack This Morning...
Salukifan replied to Ruin Maniac's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not necessarily PTS but safely contained and not let loose on the street. I know people with dogs that if left without fencing would do the same thing. Some dogs are DA and need proper containment. No one was injured and technically no one was attacked. Not taking away from labradork's experience, simply saying how most councils would see it. Dogs that attack other animals are seized and put to sleep by councils. Their owners are in breach of the law. This was ALREADY a declared dangerous dog. It's owner slipped up and other dogs suffered. It wouldnl't be getting another chance if I had anything to do with it. Report it. A dog with a history of serious aggression towards other dogs AND with an owner that dropped the ball shouldnt' be getting another chance IMO. -
No offence Labradork but if it wasn't a BB that rushed your girl, why label it as one? Any dog that follows me home gets a one way trip to the pound. Safer for it, safer for any other dog it comes across.

My persective has alwasy been to minimise all risks to my dogs, not just the most statistically likely. I really don't get what, in your average suburban backyard, is so dangerous??? In the country it's different. If you think a locked door will stop a thief determined to steal your dog, think again. Whole litters have been stolen from houses. The best protection against theft is desexing and microchipping..

Or indeed which of the dogs were or were not involved. I'll not judge this one either.

The reason God invented the 4.10 IMO.

Help: Snotty Sneezy Pomeranian!
Salukifan replied to kiwikitten's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Off topic but I'd honestly wonder if that level of protein was wise for an aging dog. It can be hard on the kidneys. -
*shudders* I can live with them but I worry a lot about snakes and dogs.

Did you do this? I would have

Help: Snotty Sneezy Pomeranian!

Given his age and his breed, I'd be wondering if he's got a collapsing trachea. Time for a vet check. -
Oh wow - that's awesome! Congratulatiions - that's SUCH an honour.
-
True. But snakes aren't an issue where I live.if they were, I'd be using netting. Horses for courses. I'd argue the presence of a dog barking at the fenceline is about the best thief deterrent you can get and there's plenty of research to support that.

Unless they are an ANKC registered breeder it's not a breach. Easiest solution to these issues is to ignore FB ads
-
The first thing you need to know is that you should be contacting a state canine control, rather than the ANKC, about any breach of ethics. But I'm with Steve here. There are plenty of pedigree dogs that don't grace the show ring - where's the breach in advertising a stud??

Meanwhile.. back on topic. SCC, being left alone is all part of the "training" every pup needs to learn. You certainly don't want to end up with a dog that is distressed when left by itself and now is the time to start the process. So, he has a play, has a meal if one is due, and then a toilet stop, into his pen and "see ya"!! Same thing when you get back.. "hello puppy, lets get you out of there for a pee and then its business as usual". Starting with shorter periods of time and working up to half a day or so is a very good idea. I would strongly discourage continued feeding by hand. Put the meal in a bowl, in the pen and leave the pup to it. 10 minutes later, remove the bowl and nothing more until the next meal. This is also a training process and sometimes our anxiety that our pups are getting everything they need can get in the way. Missng a few meals really won't hurt him. My personal view is that the ideal arrangement for a dog like this would be a dog door into the back yard so that he can come and go at will. Locked gates will see to his security. He'll get some exercise, be able to toilet and be able to have a sunbake on a nice day to get his Vitamin D all with no real effort from you! He will also be a little self sufficient and that can be very useful if he has to be minded at any stage. That way if life gets in the way and you're late home or delayed, he doesn't suffer. As for leaving your dogs "safely" locked indoors I'll share one of my little nightmares with you... "house fire". FYI, few vets have any real experience with dog training. Don't expect golden advice from that source.

The OP was asking about the ANKC process wasn't he?
-
This isn't an ANKC recognized breed so the process isn't the same. What breed are we talking about. Unless you've got reasonable numbers you might be better off with a number of breeds or a group club

The degree of movement permitted. One leading sports vet even recommends room rest over crate rest for all dogs recovering from injury because the degree of muscle wastage is considerably reduced. Restricted movement is far better than no movement at all. There's space in between a crate and a free for all for a pup to develop soundly. Avo it sounds to me like a move would be best in the longer term. A tiered back yard and a zooming dog is never going to be a great combination.

I think it's mainly to do with them being less able to cope. Their skin is thinner and easier to puncture too. How horrible I think it also has to do with their potential to trigger a predatory response in some animals. They, like children, are "weaker".
