  1. Also do your research ontheline and ask about bite and bark as some kelpies have that bred into them especially in the WKC, as good bite and bark are necessary for some working lines. Bark and bite can be a problem if not given a proper outlet so i'd stay away from those lines. But you can ask the breeder, they're normally proud of a dog with good bite and bark and will be happy to let you know. Good eye means that he has the ability to stare down a sheep, this takes focus, so good eye normally means a dog that's harder to refocus, but this can vary.
  2. Normally the big studs are really good or really poor some guys up this way are in it for the money and breed a lot fo dogs and quality gives way to quantity, I'd be more inclined to go a smaller breeder focused on breeding better quality dogs, although but then again I'm looking for a worker, soa bigger stuf might be better as they have a wider selection of temperaments to choose from. I really love the Cobber lines as they are high drive but sensible dogs. I'd stick with the established studs as new breeders are an unknown quanitity unless they have really proven bloodlines and always meet the parents at least twice before commiting to a pup.
  3. I remember in highschool some kid threw a fake snake at someone and she fell down the stair breaking her wrist and elbow. The principal was not happy
  4. Wow she really lost a lot of black fur! Beautiful dog, what are Airedales like?
  5. What the what?!? Weirdness, I feel for those pups
  6. Yeah he's a really nice guy and I don't think he believed me, but believed in the dogs he bred. So took her on himself.
  7. the breeder has been workign with kelpies and breeding since he was in his early 20's (he was 67 I think). The dogs had great working lines, the lines I wanted, the bitch was a nice pup, she seemed to have good eye but I had her a for a long time and even though she had eye, that's all she had, it wasn't a lack of confidence just general disinterest. She'd start to look interested and then quickly develop into a bludger.... All the other pups were great workers. So he took her back and said he'd work with her personally and try to train her up. I don't know about her now, that was a good 2 years ago.
  8. ^this. I don't want to get tape worm or have a flea infestation in my house...guh
  9. I understand the need to be all natural. But when it comes to pets parasites are a real problem. My bestie swore on apple cider vinegar in the dogs water for worms, until his dog got worms, then he swore on drontal. I've had a dog almost die from tick paralysis because I slipped on the strict 3 week regime in tick season. We use Advocate as well as Drontal for the dogs, my mum was a hippy and she tried every natural thing out there to get rid of fleas but nothing worked, spot on treatments are the best.
  10. Yeah, I noticed that, the young pup I have right now is WKC, I actually sent back the last pup I got as it had NO drive... I was so disappointed gorgeous little thing, nice type but literally a couch potato. This little guy is very laid back but very high work drive, plus I think he's a nicer type then the last one. Can't wait to see how he turns out.
  11. He meant Manic as in high energy. It's how a lot of people refer to kelpies, the super high excited energy they get. not a neurotic. I'm definitely going to do a study.
  12. I met a GORGEOUS Liver and white pap about a year ago. Sweetest dog, it put them as my favourite Toy breed.
  13. Interesting. I just spoke to someone else who has had experiece with both and she said that sometimes because the showline dogs are less "manic" they can actually work better, but she says they lack the endurance... I think I need to do a bit of a study.
  14. I LOVE whippets so much, i've always wanted one but never got the opportunity. I have enough now, so won't be getting anymore until this lot leave the planet

  17. OK so basically no white patches or cream colouring. Coolies
  18. OK, do you know which studs do it? And is it true that the ANKC dogs can't have white or tan?
  19. Hi Rebanne. I just got back from working in the USA as a trainer last month. Now I'm working locally until I move out west next month to change jobs.
  20. I live on the land and work on a station out west and have always owned WKC kelpies. A farmer told me the other day that the ANKC reg kelpies have all had their natural herding ability bred out and they are bred for looks and temp not drive. Is this true?
