  1. OK, so here's the deal. I'm currently living with my mother but move out to a station in january for a job as a governess. I have my own 2 acre fully fenced yard complete with kennels and huge shelters. I'm taking 3 dogs, my jack russell, my lurcher and my kelpie. But here's the thing... I really want to take my BCX but he can be unpredictable with aggression. he's never broken skin but has nipped a few people that 'invaded his territory'. My mum is happy to keep him as i was a bit worried about him maybe snapping at the kids... even though my house and yard are on another area of the property. But I feel so bad, I love this dog and my mum tolerates him but hardly loves him, he is a bit of a pain. Not only that but he and the maremma HATE eachother, they hardly get into fights more growling but last time he had a nasty bite wound on his chest when they did fight. I'm thinking that maybe I should take him, but speak to my employer first... I feel so bad. The Jack russell is fine here, as i can onyl afford 3 dogs and he loves mum so he won't care where he is as long as he has food. I feel worried to leave Nelson here as mum works a lot and leaves them unsupervised and even though nothing big has happened the maremma is a huge dog and has proven that he can injure nelson. I'm so torn.
  2. I don't like doing that just for the fact that it's a connection straight to your computer's files. By using a proxy middleman such as a hosting site it takes out your file information and connection to your computer. *paranoia*
  3. When I think of points I think of pigment of the fur around the snout, tips of ears, below the knees and sometimes tail. I'd never seen that colouration ona poodle before, now it makes sense. I assume if you breed her to a dog of similar colouration then you would get at least some pups resembling the parents. Is she ANKC reg?
  4. Get a Tinypic account and upload a photo form your PC but resize it to "message board' which is an option to the right of the upload button. It keeps it around 600
  5. I googled Wandering Jew and this is what I got lmao I googled Wandering Dew and got this ahahaha OMG you so made my day!!!! I laughed so hard
  6. Saw a huge Western brown yesty in the back field. about 6ft and very wide. Old man I would say. I hope he goes and hangs out at the creek and not in my chicken shed...
  7. If he chews at all, I wouldn't get one for long term house crating where he'll be unmonitored. if he's good than sure why not. Although I imagine ventilation might not be as good as the wire ones...
  8. My other ones are pretty good, but due to the Maremma being a LGD he's intolerant of weird people and always protecting me. He's very social with everyone on our walks exceptsome people he just won't like, even if they seem normal and not drunk...he'll just bark and won't let them near, other people he lets do whatever they like to him like a big Golden lol.
  9. haha that reminds me of when I was walking the Maremma and a drunk guy came up asked if he could pat the dogs and the Maremma sat back and gave the biggest bark...I think he peed himself a little bit. He kinda bumbled off in the other direction. The Maremma's funny, he has a no bullshit policy, he's never bitten anyone, the bark is enough to make Chuck Norris cry like a baby.
  10. Well i've spent a lot of time with Greys and Whippets, are they similar in temp?
  11. Awesome. I haven't done any research yet as it's too soon, but I thought I'd ask, as I have my heart set on one, when I have the money, time and facilities to house another dog comfortably.
  12. This is quite a few years away, probably 4-5 or so, after I get married etc. But I have a special love of Salukis and Sighthounds in general, I love their temps. I know they need secure yards. But I was just wondering if many people breed them in Australia or would I have to import?
  13. Oh we have so many of them here! Nearly half the dogs in this town are Stag or stag crosses, the sheer amount of bogans is enough to make you shudder... I don't want to pigeonhole pig hunters but... mmm, we don't get the 'stag' types down here but I have seen plenty of them in NSW my own 2 were adopted from Wagga & I have rescued many from around that area. What I find scarey is that those people actually produce offspring too! ;) It is a very unsettling reality...

  15. Was this directed to me or the OP. I wasn't sure as it came under my post.
  16. I have two particular dogs that i walk together and I completely disallow anyone to touch them as one is a rescue with a bit of an unpredictable temp he was rescued as a pup but was very poorly bred and both his parents were nasty things, the other is a maremma and even though he's a lovely animal, he takes his job of guarding very seriously and is wary of strangers. The jackrussells are both reserved but friendly and get walked together and the lurcher and kelpie are both very friendly and I walk to lurcher with the kelpie as she is so lovely to every human and dog she meets and I want that to rub off on the kelpie. I don't mind people petting, but when they grab my dog's tails and do obviously stupid stuff, it peeves me so much!
  17. Gosh, you certainly meet some pretty weird people. I must be living on the wrong side of town lol. You have no idea. The other day i was walking my Lurcher and Kelpie past a house and there was a big white fat cat sitting on the footpath, the cat bolted to an old lady sitting on the porch, my Lurcher being a hunting dog got excited and started whining and pulling at the sight of something running. I pulled her back, and sat her down until she was in a calm state of mind, which took about 40 seconds. The old lady in the meantime had made her way to the front gate, where she started chastising me for "Scaring her cat". the cat was laying like a seal on the front step wagging its tail not giving a hoot about anything, she said if I had such an uncontrollable dog I shouldn't walk it... I have no idea what she was on about... So now I have to change my route because I just want to walk my dogs lol that's all and it's like the universe hates me haha
  18. Oh this touches a raw nerve, I used to walk all six of my dogs together but had to stop due to idiots. I now do three separate walks, which makes me fit but annoyed. I've had people grab my dogs tails, stick cameras in their faces without asking, grab their leads and drag them over, I've had on girl see me coming and run straight into the middle of all my dogs and start baby talking and squealing like an idiot, then complaining when the dogs growled at her...it drives me nuts
  19. She was found in Wagga area. She's an escape artist, and she had ona pretty red collar and was desexed, not abused by how she acts. I live about 90ks away. but I worry that they might drive past one day and recognise her , as she's very distinctive... it would break my heart if they wanted her back.
  20. Ok cool. Because whever I walk my shlter girl who was stray, I always worry her old owners will recognise her.
  21. This is hypothetical... But say they had a good reason.
  22. Say you're walking a dog that you rescued from the shelter down the road and the previous owner sees you with their dog. Say the dog was a stray and they wanted it back and you've owned the dog for a while...what would you say or do?
  23. Oh crap! I'd also notify the vets and pounds in surrounding council areas, the people may have been from out of town.
  24. A lot of rural pounds have lurchers and stags, I got my Lurcher from Wagga pound.
  25. One of my friend's dogs (Bull Mastiff) didn't come into heat until she was 2 years old. What breed of dog is she?
