  1. Longest night. Lots of nesting but no pups yet. So close. Now Im off to make coffee .
  2. ohhh...Persephone, Im not sure ? I have treats, and puppy food, canned, dry and rehydratable. I have Nutrigel. What else might be good?
  3. Its very warm here today, so went to the shops early was only out about an hour and a half. Had taken her for her morning walk just before we left. Came home and her temp has is now 36.3*c and she has torn her whelping box to shred's there is newspaper EVERYWHERE. Hopefully one step closer
  4. Well a very quiet night. This morning she is being a bit weird, clingy and trying to eat and drink random things like the newspaper and my cup of coffee ! but far more interested in chasing the family cat than spend time in the whelping area. P.S - can someone tell me how to change the title of the thread post so I can put a thing like * update when there is pups, save you all going into a frenzy each time I post  I figured it out off to make another coffee..........
  5. Her due date is today. Though nothing exciting is happening and she doesn't even look close. The pups that we can monitor with the stethoscope sound nice and strong. So we just wait.......
  6. just popping in to say no news yet - yes I am impatient and sick of waiting. Come on puppies HURRY UP!!! edited to add: if we are all sitting here waiting, I would love some ideas in case we need names. I haven't been game to think of any until now. If we get live pups I think they should be named after Gods, or something that means strength and endurance, or something along those lines. Any ideas?
  7. no puppy news .. Took her to vet this morning for a check up. All ok. She has put on a couple of kilo's , even though she doesn't appear to be carrying it anywhere. He appetite is back too. We can still find 2 pups that are wriggling and have strong heartbeats with the stethoscope. One on either flank. :D She has been loosing some clear mucus the last 3-4 days so hopefully this is the mucosal plug coming away. Her teats are huge and begin to look fuller, rather than floppy. She is already confined to the whelping area so Im waiting for her to start scratching around. She is stealing my t-shirts and my sons teddy's and cuddling them whenever she can. So hopefully we are getting closer to the pups coming. We are positive so far with how she will handle things, she has regained a lot of strength. He eye sight in the left eye is still compromised, but her facial paralysis is mildly improved.
  8. Thanks Monteba These last few days before whelping seem to take forever!!!! My girls belly has changed shape, from the top view you would hardly tell there were any pups hiding in there. Side on - well that's a different story! She has barely touched her food today, happy to lay around like a couch potato.
  9. Not much change in things here the last few days. I thought she was going to whelp the other night; panting, increased heart rate, hard belly, unsettled etc but after sleeping (or in fact not sleeping!) with her throughout the night everything had settled down by morning. The vet wasn't sure what or why? but she seemed ok, and there was no change in the pups so we are still waiting. In the last couple of days she isn't eating as much, maybe half her ration and her fluid intake is also much less. Her urine is dark, but Im hoping that is due to the decreased fluids and not a kidney issue. She is still bright, but far less agile. Its so hard to tell what is caused by the pregnancy and huge belly and what are long term effects of the snake bite. So we are waiting quietly and taking each day as it comes. So far so good.
  10. I haven't read all the posts so apologise if I am repeating. Have you asked your vet for a hormone test? to test for abnormal growth hormone levels? I had a hormone issue in a kelpie pup once at about the same age. Huge pup, much bigger than the rest of the litter. - just a thought :)
  11. thankyou everyone for your support 9 days to go. I felt a pup wriggling in her belly 2 nights ago. I didn't want to get my hopes up so tried to ignore it. However this little pup keeps wriggling for all the world to see. I can her its heartbeat with a stethoscope so I like to check on it now and then. I can not find any of the others but I'm not worrying too much about that. With that little ray of hope I splashed out and bought 2 new lots of vet bed from Petnetwork (I think that's the place) just so if we do get a live puppy it has somewhere nice and new to sleep.
  12. Since her return home she is doing really well. There is paralysis to the left side of her face - the side that was bitten. Its not really noticeable but when she smiles now that side doesn't move. She is also having some trouble eating small kibble and really wet food, so its been interesting finding a consistency she is happy with. We have also noted that she is bumping into things on the left side. I think her vision is impaired in that eye. She is far less agile than her once athletic self but its only early days yet. No more news on the pups, but her belly is growing and not too much longer to wait.
  13. In Victoria the info can be found at the DEPI - Department of Environment & Primary Industries. Im not sure what the SA Government body is called. here in VIC. for a dog 40-70cm at shoulder height, the run must be a min. of 180cm wide, 180cm high and 10sqm in floor space. 1 third of the area MUST be concreted and the bed area must be raised from the floor. *edited because I cant spell early in the morning :)
  14. :D happy to hear you have 5 new healthy pups My girl is doing well. Sitting on the couch recouping. Wanting to do more than she is allowed at this stage. Her belly is growing and she is doing great.
  15. Thanks Dancinbcs - thankfully we have a small cool change its now only in the high 20's :) she is laying happily on the floor in front of the cooler. Another u/s today before her leaving the Vet showed no change in the pups.
  16. My girl is coming home today. Its horrendous weather 43*c expected so I hope the heat doesn't knock her around too much. We have an air cooler but not air con. but if it gets too warm I will go to a family members house with her as they have air conditioning. What a week. Thankyou for your messages on here. I hope to come back soon with good news of safely born live puppies but for now I will enjoy having my girl back home. I will keep updating this thread, someone down the line may be caught in a situation like this, I found no info on what could or couldn't happen. So maybe this thread might help someone else one day.
  17. To everyone's surprise my girl has survived her snake bite. She is also still carrying 4 live puppies. I hope to come back with good news on live born puppies. Fingers crossed. Now we just wait and see.
  18. Asalei - the bloods reflect the damage done to the muscles. ATM her CK levels are over 3000 I believe they are meant to be about 300. To me she appears weak and 'wasted' you can now feel her shoulder bones and she looks sunken at the hips and across the back. The muscle wastage to me is obvious to see. The concern is the damage this will do to her organs long term. It can take a day or so for the blood levels to reflect the actual levels as the body expels the waste and toxins from the body. We are being extremely cautious as she is heavily pregnant and we will keep her on fluids and pain relief as long as needed for the blood results to show a good CK level. However yes it is surprising she appears 'well'. We are all surprised at her vigor :D She was well enough to do the ultra sound !!!!!................ they found 4 pups with heartbeats and normal appearing placentas. now I have been told not to get too hopeful about the condition the pups may be born in, we do not know what affect the venom has had on them and will not know until they are born and doing well. But we have some hope.
  19. Kirislin - My husband and 5yr old son were with her when she caught the snake. I had just returned from the backyard to the house with our 3yr old son. It bit our dog on the mouth and as she fell (we assumed she was dead) my husband got the snake as my son ran for help. It happened maybe one meter from him. I had to check twice to see if she was still alive, and she was breathing so we went immediately to the vet. Thankfully it is only a 15min drive and they were prepared for us when we arrived. She had the anti venom within 15-20mins of the snake bite. Hopefully this helps. I have just been to see her again, she is bright and active. Her blood tests are still not very good at all. Hopefully today they will be able to check the pups for heartbeats. She hasn't shown any signs of miscarrying or problems related to carrying dead puppies so perhaps there is hope they may be alive. If the pups survive they can be paralysed from the venom and have to be euthanized at birth. They can also be born alive and die shortly afterwards. So we will need to just wait and see. We still have not discussed how to get them out. It will be an anxious wait this afternoon. Im sure I will sit by the phone most of the day.
  20. Kirislin - she is a kelpie :) I don't know how to add photos, but here is a link to one I took yesterday https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152200616923478&set=pcb.10152200617043478&type=1&theater edited to add photo link
  21. She was still too unwell to do the ultrasound, so they are hoping for Thurs/Fri, depending on how she is going. At the moment we are given a very tricky situation - she is too sick to undergo a c/s to remove the pups, dead or alive. Her kidneys wouldn't cope with the anesthetic. It would most likely kill her. However she has so much damage to the muscles from the snake toxins the stress of labour on the muscles may be too much for her to handle also. At the moment we are at a bit of a stalemate. Waiting to see how her organs recover. On a positive note she is bright, eating and walking on her own
  22. My girl is 2wks from her due date and was bitten by a tiger snake last night. She received treatment very quickly (within 15-20mins of the bite) and has responded very well till this point. Of course our focus has been on saving her life, but I cant stop thinking about the unborn pups. An ultrasound is scheduled for later today. Has anyone had any experience in a case like this? I cannot find any information on snake bite and pregnancy or anti venom treatment on unborn pups. Im assuming they will most likely die.
