He's all good now healthwise. Skin is great, fit as a fiddle, doesn't show his age at all. I've contacted boxer rescue in Victoria and await their reply.

It kills me to write this post but I've reached a point where I've had to admit that I think my dog is too much for me. I have a 7 year old Boxer boy, our life has changed a lot in the last year with a new child, moving house, both parents being shift workers and little spare time. It's at a point where he needs to go to a Boxer friendly house. Someone who is accustomed to Boxers and more importantly has the time to devote to him. It's tearing me up inside, but can anyone here recommend a good rehoming service? I would never take him to a pound, but a lot of our arguments and stress at home revolve around him and the destruction he causes. I feel I'm failing him and his needs. He's a good boy but far too high maintenance for our situation. I'm not writing this for tips on living with Boxers, but simply asking if anyone has recommendations for rehoming places/services.

We got one of those hanging fly traps too. It seemed to catch heaps of wasps but not so many flies. When the maggots started wriggling around it was time to throw away....PEW!

Thanks for the Advantix advice, works a treat, no flies hanging around now.

Hopefully someone can give me an answer. I have an unbelievable amount of flies who are constantly biting my dog, drawing blood and leaving fly specs caked all over his ears. They're only small flies, but I can't believe how many are around and all over the dog. I've tried spraying him with 'Off' and it sort of works, haven't tried aeroguard yet. I'm going nuts trying to keep them away. I've even sprayed the yard with Baygon outdoor spray. Anyone??

My dog has gone through this occasionally, the vet says it's just a stomach (digestive) upset. It almost looks like a slimy sausage skin covering the poo. Nothing to worry about. Has advised that bland food like rice, chicken, etc can help the digestion get back on track.

Would My Dog Have Rocks In His Stomach?
booge replied to booge's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Pineapple does nothing for him, as far as blocking access to the area.....no can do. The yard isn't big enough, I'd be blocking half of it and the rest is either paved or garden/treed and not accessible for big dogs. I'll just ask the vet at the next visit I suppose. Thanks all. -
Would My Dog Have Rocks In His Stomach?
booge replied to booge's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
As far as stopping him, the only thing that works is picking it up before he eats it....nothing else has worked. More concerned with rocks in his stomach than anything else. -
I have a boxer that unfortunately eats his own poo. He normally does his business in an area of the yard which is covered with Lilydale topping(small gravel), I know he would be eating some amount of gravel with his poo but would this pass through him? Or would it be slowly building up inside his stomach? He's not ill and is otherwise normal.

My Boxer has been scratching with atopic dermatitis most of his life and he's been on pred on and off most of his life. I've tried diets, food elimination, every magic product, natural therapy, shampoo, supplement i can find. Just accept that your dog may just need pred. I've been so frustrated with different vets and specialists not fixing anything. My dog is almost 7 now, so much happier when he's not scratching and chewing himself raw and having fur drop out. He pretty much needs pred to be normal. You may feel like your drugging him (as i do) but he's so much more content, as I am too.

I have a boxer called Archie too. He's nearly 7 and is pretty over the top in his "playing". He growls loudly during a tug of war and is very physical when playing with new dogs. It has caused me to worry a lot about his interactions with dogs over the years. But now I've just accepted (after many years!) that's the way he plays. So I'm more cautious who I let him off lead with as some dogs (and owners) can take it the wrong way. They're an interesting dog to own.

Report it, might be your new puppy being attacked one day. Would you wish you'd done something then?

I know with my boxer, he's very good at defending the property, he's bailed up the meter reader before! Just backed him into a corner and stood imposingly in front of him. Wasn't growling or aggressive at all but did his job well. As far as holding his own in a fight....i understand what you're saying, my dog could, but it just causes you problems if it does happen and i do everything i can to avoid that situation. At our dog park he's only off lead when we're alone, if other dogs turn up we're on lead or just leave. He's not aggressive but enjoys rough play which has caused scuffles in the past and I've had dog owners yell at me because he seems quite imposing. His idea of a greeting is run up and stand tall chest puffed out, if the dog wants to play he's great but if not that's when there's a problem. My Boxer boy is quite aloof with strangers when out and about. If someone comes through the park when he's off lead he'll never want a pat, he'll keep his distance and maybe circle them a few times before moving in for a closer look. Good trait for a guarding breed. If you come to my house, he'll sound like the guard dog from hell at the door, but once you're accepted inside he'll drive you insane with licking and won't leave you alone. Very energetic, smart when HE chooses, but a very frustrating breed I've found. Hard to keep them focussed. They take quite a bit of work. Hope that helps. I'm considering Amstaff for our next dog so this is a very interesting thread.

Hard question to answer, but I'll try. I like a (dare I say it) "masculine' type dog, I like the appearance of a muscular dog and I like a dog that is willing to defend it's owner and property. In terms of temperament, I would say I prefer a dog that is CAPABLE of holding it's own in a fight, but takes a lot of pushing to do so. I'd like to think a stranger could approach me and my dog and be able to pat it. i hope that helps ! Cheers Sorry, but after reading this post, I don't think any Bull Breed or large breed is for you.

That looks similar to the spots on my boxer. It's like a pimple/skin allergy, I notice he gets them more closer to spring when the pollen has started which he is allergic too. I find washing him more helps settle things( i use Groomers EPO shampoo) which seems to work ok, maybe a course of anti biotics would help too.
