Becks, I can keep the hair OUTSIDE the house and not INSIDE!! They are really much easier than doing it in the shower. I can stay mostly dry. My bath is on a trolley and I can wheel it around to where I want it. My bath is in the outdoor "sunless' room" adjacent to the laundry. There is a cold tap there which has a hose and I just use that to fill the bath. As for the hot water, the laundry is just there and it is nothing to use one 15 litre bucket to speed up the hot water. There are some products designed for hydrobaths that don't require rinsing. I will use those for every day washes. For conditioner, I have a spray bottle mixed with conditioner and (they call it) perfume type stuff. After washing and blow drying (have a dog dryer too) the dog, I just spray that over the top of the coat and lightly brush in.

Obedience Club/private Or Public
Mystiqview replied to Mystiqview's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks Seita for the heads up on Boarding Kennels. Not my side of town these days. I found Southside dog club good when I lived over there. Around that side of town there is not a lot of CCCQ clubs. There is Richlands at Birkdale, Southside and Oxley. I know Bonnies used to have classes one night a week at Durack (Thursday I think). I am not sure if they still do or not. I know there are a few private more positive clubs opening up around the place. -
Do You Go To Dog School In The Rain?
Mystiqview replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I don't train in the rain. I used to do it years ago, trained/trialled in thunderstorms.. but not any more. I am miserable, the dogs are sometimes miserable.. Much prefer sitting inside with a dog on the lap watching the idiot box and a glass of wine -
One of my puppy buyers lives at Camp Hill. They asked me did I know of a decent obedience club/institution around that area. He mentioned the one at Mt Gravatt Showgrounds. All I could say was NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know there's Southside Dog club at Banoon there. I used to train there a few years back when I lived on that side of town. They also asked for good boarding kennels around their area. They mentioned Coltrandi .. and again NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Suggestions?

I have a single heated one from the Old Conmurra Hydrobaths here. Mine's fibreglass. The only thing I dont like about it is that you lift up the floor to get to the tank underneath. It is a whole lift off panel. I prefer some others I have seen that are hinged and the floor is flat. What the others have said about the heater is true. I generally just get a 15 litre bucket from the laundry and pour that into the tank. Then top it up with cold water. The tank on mine I think holds about 22 litres. Also where I am now, I can probably run a hot water hose straight to the bath. I use products in my bath that are designed for hydrobaths that don't necessary require rinsing. Depends on how dirty my dogs are at the time, I can get up to three border collies washed out of one tank. The other thing I love that I put on my hyrdrobath was a flow limiter for puppies and heads. Just attach it down towards the nozzle. There are for and against arguments for fibreglass vs plastic. I preferred the fibreglass. I liked the closed in bottom whereas the Barf shop ones are all open at the bottom of the bath.. My hydrobath sits where there be puppies.. and the last thing I want is little teeth chewing things they shouldnt

Supercoat Puppy Vs Bonnie Puppy
Mystiqview replied to ButerflyGirl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If I only had the choice between the two... I will go bonnie.. Would not touch Supercoat with a ten foot pole. Same reasons as others have said. I have seen it act similar to red cordial with children. They bounce off the walls for 10 minutes then fall flat. Its crap and heaps is spent on marketing and packaging to dress it up like lamb instead of the mutton it is -
I have had two puppies from the same litter, both on the same diets (Advance) and one has drunk more than the other. It could be the dry food. After all there is no moisture in it. Any dry food will cause a dog to drink more. Check the back of the packet for sodium levels. The possibility of any medical conditions aside for a minute. As long as they have plenty of water, I would not be too worried at this stage. If the product does contain a higher amount of salts, then long term that could not be a good idea (I have to read the packet myself when I get home). On the short term, the extra water intake should not hurt the dog. It could also be looked at that the other dog who does not drink as much, is not as hydrated as the one who drinks much more water. I would probably ring your vet and get their professional opinion as they know your dogs than us on here.

I plait leather and make my own. They are reasonable thickness. Not quite as thin as favoured in showing. I have medium sized dogs and my leads are about 95cm.. (5cm more than the minimum length allowed to stop any quibbering on too short in length). I am not all that tall (5'3) so I find the length still a little long.

Allizin will allow up to 45 days. Obviously you want to do it sooner than later because the bitch will abort and can pass the foetuses. It is two injections 24 hours apart. Otherwise desexing like others have said. It is a more complicated and intensive surgery and will cost more and maybe be a longer recovery time. Personallyl, I would like a really good vet who you trust to do a desexing while pregnant.

One of the biggest one new handlers make is the drop command. Rather than just the hand signal, they also bend over a fair way as well. Especially those with smaller dogs. I do not know what lenency they give you in this regard.. I have hard either larger dogs or medium sized dogs. Similar for the stand command, they give a very wide/long signal. Another I have been pinged for myself is when I do the stay and then recall. I walk away with my hands behind my back in a grasp. You get to the end of the ring and give the recall command (Both hands sweep up away from your body and then I used to clasp my hands in front of me). I was pinged for a double signal - I should have walked away with my hands infront of me, turned around, given the command then return myhands to where they were when I left the "stay" command. *Shrug* Was only pinged the once. I finish on a diferent foot for a halt (auto sit) to Drop or Stand, to save any anticipation/confusion of the dog. Even though you are in CCD now, my recommendation would be to train yourself to the upper levels of obedience. It sets it in YOUR mind..so in the heat and stress of the moment, you don't slip back and give a unconscious signal to the dog confusing them. It keeps you pretty standard. It becomes second nature to you and frees your mind up for other things like breathing....

Agree with poodlefan.. Fast 24 hours. Then when you do feed.. KEEP IT AS BLAND AS POSSIBLE.. I just normally give them a half serve of kibble only for the first feed, then slowly bring the rest back in.

I had my girl booked in for a ultrasound today. I have just been notified it has been cancelled due to they had a case come in this morning with suspected Parvo virus. This is for the Mitchelton, McDowell, Everton Park, Stafford areas. Anyone from Brisbane and around these areas, please be advised to be careful around off leash areas. Cheers Tracie

Prefix Search Australia Wide Www.prefixsearch.com.au
Mystiqview replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
So you are just adding the prefix with the breed?? I see mine has been added.. No offence here... but when I read that this has been done... I was initially of three minds.. First: Great Idea.. Second: Hmm ID's are being added to a website without the permission of the owner Third: If you are only listing the prefix and breed... what's the point of it?? Can you maybe put the purpose of why you have done this on your website?? You have your disclaimer down the bottom, fair enough. I can understand that, but maybe you should also put on there the purpose of this website and why you are collecting prefixes? -
Optimum is only a slight level down from Advance. Still pretty good stuff though. Years ago it used to be called Pedigree Principle. It is aimed at the supermarket people who look at the more "expensive" supermarket dog foods. When it was Principle, I used to be able to buy it in 20kg bags. Since changing to Optimum, I could not, so moved over to Advance. I would give it a go.

I was at a dog trial the other week and apparantly samples were given out of these products. http://petenzymes.com/ Has anyone had any experience with them??

I have a Conmurra one when they were actually Conmurra. They have since sold the business to another company who makes them based I think on their design. I bought mine about 6 years ago. I only have the single tank heated and find it great. The twin tank I suppose would be good if you wished to rinse the dog down after a wash. I use Fido's free itch here which is fine to leave on the dog. The only thing I find with the heaters in them is it takes ages to heat up a full tub of water. The tank in mine I think holds about 22 litres. I find it quicker to go to the laundry grab a bucket of hot water and pour that into the tank to give it a start if I am bathing late. If I have the time, then I let the bath heat up the water as by the time I fully groom the first dog, it is heated ok. I dont like the trolley around the barf shop ones. particularly the open underneath where the motor is. That was one of the reasons I did not go with them.

Agree totally. I use check chain. The dog is responsive, the chain should always be slack. If a correction is needed, it is quick snap then a quick release. (ETA: If I am going general walk.. I use flat collar. I onlly use chain when I am training to signal it is training and a higher level of um. concentration is required. Straight before and after training, it is a flat collar.) I don't like haltis as they may stop a dog from pulling, but they are always correcting to some degree as through their design there is always a small upward tension between snaphook and lead. Not to mention, even when they are slack, they rub.

do you mean Parvo of Kennel Cough? Parvo can exist in the environment for quite a while so I wouldnt be inviting the neighbours over either grass eating is normal, all mine do it as well as eating fruit off the trees and ground. Grass cleans them out it seems and my lot have never been constipated with green grass around. Hows the best way to put it... Here goes.. Just like us maybe.. We may have a runny nose and an irritating cough for a day or two, but it is not a true cold or flu.. Mild Irritation. Kennel Cough you really know it...Non stop Hacking type cough. Parvo - It would not be hard to miss if they had it
-
Did they say the dog had parvo or is it just an occassional cough etc. A dog can have a sniffly nose and cough and still not be parvo.. Or it could be parvo. Regardless I would be wanting to see their dog at a vet. Parvo, I believe is also partly air borne. Check with your vet on the REAL likelihood your dog could get parvo. There are SOOO many theories and half truths out there. It is highly contagious, that I know. Some say it has to be contact, others say it stays in the ground for years.. Others say the spores do not last long outside wet mucus. I never have had it or been in real risk of getting it. The grass is normal. As someone said, some eat more grass than others. Some grass/vegetable matter is also needed in their diet. All mine eat grass and have no issues. Some eat more than others. Likewise, it can also be eaten because they do have a stomach upset.. If it is running amok during the day, I would also be curious as to what ELSE she could be chewing and possibly causing/adding to a stomach upset.

Any vet can take the Xrays.. There are those who are better at taking Xrays than others.. The Scoring is either done by the AVA in NSW or Dr Wyburn in WA. Most breeders I know use Wyburn as it is only one person scoring. More consistant.. Whereas the AVA is a panel and the panel can change.. There have been instances where the same Xrays have been sent to both groups and scores from one have been double or half of the other.
-
Friends had theirs done at the Landsborough Vet without any hassles. I had my first bitch xrayed there too... good xrays and reasonably priced too. Send the xrays to Dr Wyburn in WA.
