Relationship Between Dog Size, Yard Size And Exercise?
Mystiqview replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
Four BCs here. The block is fairly large. But large house situated in the middle of the block. They only have a back yard. When I am away they are locked in runs. When I am home they are inside with my partner and I. We go camping/4wd often, and take them camping with us where we can. If not, I have a really good friend who is generally happy to housesit for me. On good days (namely cooler) one or two may come on the run with me (I have a mobile grooming business). Two of my BC's are lounge lizzards (one is 3 years and one is 18 months). The male has been taught to bark by the neighbour's Amstaffs. One is a puppy, and the other can be active, but is also happy to lie around. If Faith barks, you take notice! My dogs may get to the offlead park a couple times a week. They are afforded a LOT of people time. My dogs cannot run or play in the yard without those dogs down the back fence barking and trying to tear it apart to get to my guys. I don't normally say this.. but one of them need the green dream. It is very aggressive, has jumped her fence, is entire, the owner does nothing with them and there is only a 3 foot fence between them an us as they are housing commission. I have a large clump of wood by the clothes line incase that mongrel does jump my fence. (my own protection). Blue will bark a bit particularly if those dogs are down the fence. He will go up and tell them off. When we first moved in here, you never heard from my guys. So he normally comes on the run with me. At times, I have put a bark collar on him. When at home.. you never hear a peep from my dogs. -
Keep an eye out on Ebay. It comes up often enough there

Staffylover. Turd maybe coming too. Depends on whether Dylan is going camping or not. So that will make 3 bcs with me. He will probably take Ferral with him. I will have to leave Sunday morning after breakkie.. Forgot my sister in law bought me "Wicked" tickets for the Sunday Matinee at 3pm.

Same. Not complicated at all. Sign the back for the transfer. Just need to attach the Limit Register agreement signed by the new owner and attach to the papers and send into Dogs Queensland. I did not have to write a letter either. I think you may have to do to go the other way (IE> Limit to Main)

Had the last ones done at Wooloowin Vet Hospital Otherwise had them done at McDowell Vet He was about 70?? Samford Vet was about 80 I think Pet Emergency at Stafford Heights quoted me $120 (and I qualify for local rates!!!!)

I have had my maidens generally stand around 15-18 days. If the dog is experienced, he should know. Separation does work wonders. Sometimes found early morning is a great time to get the deed done.

Depends on your breed. I take mine off puppy around 12-16 weeks and onto adult food. I still use premium food, but have found too long on puppy food can make the puppy grow too quickly and I know others who also claim they have seen puppies fed too long on puppy food have the front legs go "east/west". As for how much to feed: Your puppy tells you how much to feed. They will get a little bit chubby, then over night (or so it seems) they have a growth spurt and go all lanky and lean again. I feed more during the leaner looking times and less when they start getting too chubby.

I use Sentinel Interceptor. It does Heart worm and all intestinal worms (including tapeworm). I use Comfortis (Not suitable for pups under 14 weeks or pregnant/lactating bitches) for fleas. Found the Comfortis works well for fleas. It is a chew tablet given once a month, sometimes lasting up to 6 weeks. It also helps prevent flea dermatitis and controls fleas in the environment. Personally - I do not like top spots for worming. I prefer something given internally. Top spots in my opinion only have the chance of not administrating the full dose, either through error in application, or by other means. Flea top spots I can handle only because you can SEE much more easily if they are working or not.

Rule #1 in the dog world: Do your homework Rule #2: People lie to get what they want. The number of stories you hear where someone has screwed a breeder over to get a particular line. Rule #3: Do your homework. This may involve reference checks.

I would contact your various vets for costs re C-sect. There are so many variables. I recently paid $1200 for an emergency one at 7am. (just outside normal hours). 28 day scans, I have paid anywhere for $60 - $110 for ultrasounds.

LOL. Pepe can have focus... She has it.. then it goes... But I am being tough. She is only 11 weeks old. She has learnt "out of the kitchen" for 2 minutes, then comes back in incase things drop from on high

I can just imagine them.. Can you imagine in one Cabin.. Tyson, Mac and Pepe?? Oh my gawd.. the trouble those three would generate?? Pepe has definitely inherited the non stop gene from her Pa. @ Staffylover: Did you get hold of the other person in our Cabin SL81?

only when he's hungry! He can be Steve's challenge for the weekend - find me something that motivates this dog other than a moving object (sheep or other dogs) or his blasted shadow!!! I can bring the Tyson Monster daughter and Mack's half sister.. She is a toe munching, non stop, happy yipping MONSTER!!!!

Buying A Main Registered Dog
Mystiqview replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
PME, Talk to the breeder whom you got Kenzie from. If they do not have anything going, then they may be able to point you in the right direction on who to enquire to get a puppy from. They maybe even able to put a good word in for you with another breeder and act as a reference. There are an increasing amount of BC breeders who are breeding for breedings sake and would not know a show quality pup if it tripped them over. The DOL listings are getting full of people with prefixs breeding as that is the only real requirement to advertise on there. If you want a show dog, then look at show breeders. Go to some dog shows and see what type and style is winning. It will also give you a good idea of who to start approaching. If your current dog is not desexed and is of quality, see the breeder about upgrading her to Main Register. Maybe offer to show one of their dogs for practice. Co-own.. Buyer beware!. Some are great, others can be a disaster. The only advice I can say is make sure you are comfortable with the person and the conditions. Some co-owns can be really fair to both parties, some can be really one sided in favour of the breeder. Make sure there is in the co-own agreement, as many contingencies as you can. Both parties need to open to the other and clear on what is going to happen if X or Y happens. -
How Many Dogs Do You Own? What Types? What Matches?
Mystiqview replied to zizzi's topic in General Dog Discussion
Border collies all the way here. They say they are like chips, you cannot stop at one. In all honesty, find a dog that matches your dog's personality and traits. -
Erin, What side of town are you guys located? We will be heading out from Stafford Hts.

Any more news this morning? We were looking at heading up for a look. I know the main range road and Murphy's Creek road, which I believe is also cut? What other ways are out of Toowoomba to Brisbane.

I get my potato flour from Mrs Flannery's (Bulk health food type store). It is loose and you buy what you need.

Um Isnt Showing A Desexed Bitch Wrong?
Mystiqview replied to Missymoo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Nope. Whether they were making a smart remark or not. There were other exhibitors and judges present, and IF they were only joking.. It was a sad joke to make. They did seem to log onto their I-phone while making the comment. -
Um Isnt Showing A Desexed Bitch Wrong?
Mystiqview replied to Missymoo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am sorry. When you know some people have doctored a number of major faults of their animals not only to win but then breed with, and using those dogs with disgusting hip scores in breeding programs, showing a desexed dog IS minor in comparison. It may still be breaking the rules, but on the scale of things, at least the desexed dog is not going to pass on those faults. Mon and crypos are a concern. While a person may "fix" this animal, the condition continues on down the generations. I would rather cull now, than keep running an increased risk further down the track. I recently rehomed a 14 week pup that I could not feel the second nut. I could have waited, but chose rather to cull now. Damn shame as it was a nice pup. One exhibitor told me to send it to Sydney and get it operated on and stitched down... :eek Fixing ears could also be termed cheating. Likewise adjusting coat colour with dye and other products. Grooming is one thing but the lengths that some go to is horrible. At least the person showing the desexed dog is not going to be breeding bad dogs under the glamour. I agree, if you lie about one aspect, you have to wonder about other aspects in a breeder/exhibitors actions. I know I can sleep straight in bed at night. And really, that is what counts. What others do in their back yards is their business and one day their undoing. Not worth worrying about. -
I really second this. Raising two pups from the same litter that have had the right start to life is hard enough without taking on two pups from questionable backgrounds. Even from 8 weeks on, those pups have bonded together and it is very hard to socialise and get them bonded to the two legged family rather than themselves. Ask any other breeder here who has ran on two pups for showing etc and they will tell you how hard it is. And they have raised these pups properly from birth!! Really. Slow down. Your action plan is too complicated. While I commend you for making such an action plan, you are implementing things that may not suit these pups once they arrive home. They are older pups that have had a routine. You want to start a new simple routine. They need to get used to you and your family first. If one pup is left, it will find a loving family in no time at all. Despite it being in a pound, many people who want a pup from the pound still are vain in a way and like the cute or pretty dog or something that looks "purebred". They are also generally looking in the pound for a specific breed type in mind, not necessarily wanting to pick the first "stray" they see. Think with your head, not your emotions. It is clear you want to do the best thing for these animals. The best thing could be to take on one pup and give it ALL of your attention, not half. Let someone else give the other pup ALL of their attention. That is much better for the animals concerned.

Um Isnt Showing A Desexed Bitch Wrong?
Mystiqview replied to Missymoo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have no problems being beaten by a GOOD dog that meets the standard. As I would not be showing a bitch with dropped coat, it is really a moot point as I would not be up against it when mine are out of coat. It is also good to have a break now and again and do other things with my life. It is a hobby and a sport after all. All sports have "seasons". As one of my bitches comes into season every 4 months.. it is part and parcel of showing. She is a pain to show that way.. but that's life. ETA: Who really cares about the DOL Point Score anyway?? Especially when you hear comments from one judge who was away from their normal turf say "Just wait a minute, while I check the leader board so I know who to put up?" -

Mystiqview replied to Missymoo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have no problem of a desexed animal being shown. As someone pointed out earlier in the thread, it is judging the breed standard, not the breeding capability of the animal. How many dogs/bitches out there cannot produce naturally or properly? How many animals have unacceptable hip/elbow scores, or some other major health issue that cannot be detected by observation? How many whole animals do not REALLY conform to the breed standard and still get their CH? (Petrol title or Face judging)? How many have fixed tails, jaws, have dogs with OCD, ED and HD and then go onto breed those animals.. But wait.. They are whole and have the CH? Surely these animals REALLY do not fit into the category of "Showing dogs" to "better the breed". Showing is a SPORT, just like any other Sport. Some are there to only be in it to win it. I know its rules and all that. But really.. If the desexed animal is conforming to the breed standard.. well.. again like what someone else has pointed out.. Is minor when you consider what else goes on in some breeder's back yards.
