My link Two of the Australian Army's finest bomb dogs have officially retired from active service in north Queensland today and it has set tails wagging. Townsville-based explosive detection dogs Flo Joe and Cody hung up their camouflaged collars as they were officially farewelled at a retirement parade in Townsville this morning. Both dogs have enjoyed illustrious careers including deployments overseas. Flo Joe completed four tours to Afghanistan and on her last deployment, sniffed out the most explosive devices in her section. She is also the first known Australian detection dog to find an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan. Her handler, Sapper Ian Moss, says the time is right to retire his four-legged friend from war. "Flo Joe's seven and if you ever get to see her she's going quite grey around the muzzle," he said. Sapper Moss says Flo Joe's work in Afghanistan was invaluable and she will spend her well-deserved retirement at his home. "When we're overseas we spend every waking hour and we live together, so every sleeping hour together as well," he said. "Having her around won't really be too different."

My std puppy is currently going 2-3times a day

Mine took 4 weeks to get to me got them just after my first show

We've just bought the new Chicken&Rice to try for the dogs. I opened up the bag tonight and have found red, yellow and green coloured pieces in the bag. Have others had this? Is it normal?

Will watch this with interest. I too want to go to the national & royal. Will just be 2 adults and 2 dogs for us.

I also thought I'd read somewhere that extra calcium wasn't good. She is on Advance puppy kibble and chicken wings/necks

I have a 3 month old Standard Poodle puppy. We went to the vets recently for her vaccinations and the vet recommended adding a calcium supplement to her food each day until she is at least 12 months old. We have just moved here so it's a new vet and I've never been told this before from my other vet so just want to see what others opinions are?

Lexi was 3 months yesterday it has gone by so quick since getting her and she is growing so fast! We have our first shows next weekend too shall be interesting

On the coast you can register your dog for the 1st year for free before it turns 6 months and then you have until the yearly renewal to provide desexing cert.

I know OH has said no more!! The reason for my new girl is I want to start showing! Just as a hobby and something different. I started my search in January for a breed and breeders. I went to a few shows in different places and people on DOL were really helpful too. When I moved to Mackay I went to a show up here and a met a lady who shows and breeds Standards so she helped me out in getting a pup. So you could go to some shows and meet some Pom people. Your in Brisbane and the Ekka is coming up so you could look at what day they are on as I assume there would be plenty there being a Royal Show. Or maybe the lady who only keeps show prospects for herself could recommend or point you in the direction of some breeders who would help you out? Yep I just want to do it as a hobby too, I think it would be fun albeit I have heard the show scene is not for the faint hearted. The breeder I've been speaking too (who wins a billion shows) has received death threats and all sorts through the show world Serious business!! I'm not a wallflower though so i'm sure I can handle it. I just really need to know how much time goes into it I guess as I work pretty much full time although am about to cut my hours back to 4 days a week Good pointer re the ekka, might try get there, i think its next week or the week after. I have heard some crazy stories too but not death threats! My OH doesn't understand why I want to do it with all the craziness that goes with it I'm not sure about prep for a pom but I assume it would be wash, blow dry and brush and being only tiny it shouldn't take too long. Because your in Bris you would have plenty of shows to pick and choose to enter around work. I had a look at the Ekka schedule and Poms are on Monday 13th.
