  2. German shepherd & 5 years old.. this will be 3rd litter
  3. Hello, just a really quick question please.. my bitch is in season, and for some reason next door purchased a new staffy (female) puppy about 10 weeks old. And she has dug under our colorbond fence and is coming into my yard and playing with my girl.. both are playing, which is fine by me.. My concern/question is, will this young puppy somehow affect her emotional/physically with regards to her season? (I am planning on mating her this season). Thanks!
  4. well since last season and whelping is when i got her, and hence i did not make any records of her seasons.. i have not noticed any yet.. i doubt i missed it.. so why is she acting like she is having a phantom?
  5. ok here it is... First season: 8-10-09 Next: 18.3.10 mated - missed. Next: 29.8.10 mated - missed. Next: 17.3.11 Mated - whelped pups late may. Next: 13.10.11 mated - whelped late Dec Is it possible based on this that she is actually in season this month?
  6. She had her last litter in late December 2011. So does that mean she had her season in June (most prob).. hence next season will be in 1-2 months?
  7. Hello I have a female here this is my first season with her, she is 4 yrs old. She has started acting very weird today.. i.e. nesting, digging into bed and very very friendly.. I am wondering is this possibly a sign for "heat" about to start? or is this false pregnauncy? I do not recall at any stage her going into season in last month or so which normally Pseudopregnancy will set in.. I am confused.. please help... thanks!
  8. Hello, I am looking at preparing my gsd to show. with all the different types of brushes/rakes available, i am confused, which one to buy??? Can someone recommend a brand / shop to buy from? I believe best thing would be a single row undercoat rake (will double/triple row make a difference?) and an oval shaped pin brush? Here is some of the rakes I saw: 1. http://www.ozpetshop.com.au/product_info.php/cPath/21_48_79/products_id/101 2. http://www.petsprovidore.com.au/coat-rake-for-dogs-2row-Herm-Sprenger.html Here is some of the pin brushes I found: 1. http://www.ozpetshop.com.au/product_info.php/cPath/21_48_75/products_id/71 2. http://www.ozpetshop.com.au/product_info.php/cPath/21_48_75/products_id/78 <-- combo, not sure if needed?
  9. Hello I am looking at buying a new pair of nail clippers (one that will last a long time). The el-cheapo ones i've been using keep getting blunt and need replacing every 3-9 months. I've been told about Millers Forge are quite good, but even they have a wide variety of styles etc. In your opinion, what style should I be using? Or even a different brand? Thanks alot!!!
  10. I have a little of just under 2 week old pups. I just moved them outdoors, but found that they have since attracted a bunch of flies and i am starting to worry about it causing health problems for them. I have called my vet but they said that there is nothing that can be done, just move them back indoors. Just wanted if anyone can suggest what they do to keep flies away when outdoors? (Possibly more natural ways) Someone suggested to me, to spray apple cider vinegar?
  11. how long is a safe time to try your dog on a new food i.e. to give for the dog to react to the new diet etc
  12. Good evening, This subject has probably been asked soo many times so excuse my ignorance. I have GSD's. I am looking at what is the best commercial dog food, quality to $ ratio etc. There is too many options available on the market, some are very expensive (Pro Plan, Royal Canin etc) and there is cheaper ones, i.e. Bonnie, Supercoat, Pal etc. I have heard a lot of mixed feedback on what to stay away from etc. Something i've heard over and over again; "Stay away from corn." - yet so many commercial dry foods have it in there????? WHY!!? Also, another one people said to stay away from is "By-products" etc - is there any commercial dry product that does not have this? Should I be concerned? Something i am considering is based on price vs quality vs quanitiy is Bonnie working mix - one place I found online has it delivered to your door for $42.50 per 20KG bag (you purchase 4 upfront, so it makes it about $180 upfront (but I have a number of dogs) Another factor with the cost of the foods is the clubs that each brand offers and the benefits for breeders.. i.e. with Purina for every bag of bonnie you buy, you get 10,000 points, that means with this one order i am already 40,000 points upfront etc. http://www.purina.com.au/proplan/pdf/premiums_form.pdf <-- shows what you can redeem points on. I am open to your suggestions and feedback.
  13. hmm so I just want to make sure i got the right idea. 1. During whelping have the cardboard at bottom, 2. followed by lino (i picked up a bunch of real nice stuff off the side of the road the other day) 3. Next a bunch of newspaper laid out (a couple of layers i am assuming to soak up fluids etc) 4. After whelping completed - maybe a couple hours(?) later move them to a heated area and clean up lino (hopefully just wipe down) and then put fresh newspaper down followed by vetbed. 5. Wash vetbed every 48hours(?) and clean newspapers once every 4-8hours(?)
  14. I just managed to bump into the owner of a newsagent at a shopping centre nearby, he said to come down tomorrow morning just after 6 and he will give me a bunch of them... i am guessing i do this for about 1 week and i'll have plenty (hopefully?) Thanks everyone. P.S - i tried woolies etc, but no luck.. they said they can not give them anymore.
