Steve I don't care what you choose to discuss on Dogzonline and I have nothing against the development of new breeds providing proper procedures are followed, what I object to are the constant derogatory comments about the ANKC. You speak in a previous post about 'playing the man', but I notice that you and a few others don't miss an opportunity to (might as well stick with the football analogies) 'put the boot in' to the ANKC. I had nothing against the MDBA until you made a decision to alter breed standards on the say so of just five people involved with each breed. I just couldn't believe that you would have the presumption to do such a thing, ok you've been involved with dogs for a long time, but so have I, maybe even longer than you, and I certainly wouldn't make such a suggestion. Personally I don't see the point of the MDBA, sure you can set yourself up as some elite registry, but unless you physically check everyone who applies to join you are going have bad breeders infiltrate your organisation simply because they can then advertise themselves as members and perhaps increase their chances of selling puppies. You talk about conducting 'shows' which will be nothing like ANKC shows and various other events, but you still haven't given any indication as to what these 'shows' and other events will entail. Your pedigrees will never be accepted by any of the major kennel clubs around the world (I don't count the UKC and the Continental Kennel Club and all the other organisations in the U.S. who will register just about anything as major kennel clubs), so apart from being able to say that "I'm a member of the MDBA which automatically makes me squeaky clean and 100% ethical" and having the facility to include health testing results on pedigrees you have nothing to offer to someone like me. That's not to say that lots of people don't think exactly the opposite and think that the MDBA has plenty to offer, that's their prerogative, I've nothing against that either. I have absolutely nothing against you Steve, you seem like a very nice person and you have a comprehensive knowledge of all things dog even if I don't always agree with everything you say. However even though I'm sure that you have the best interests of dogs at heart, you can't deny that the MDBA is also about making a profit, and I'm sure that enrolling dogs in a new registry is far more profitable than enrolling new members and attempting to sell various dog related courses. I am not trying to be offensive here, I'm simply stating a fact, you and your co-director have spent a lot of money getting the MDBA up and running and obviously you are wanting to get that money back and make enough to money out of it on an ongoing basis to make a living, that's only sensible. Anyway these are my thoughts on the subject, many won't agree with me and that's fine. I will stand behind the ANKC as I think they are the best bet for purebred dogs and others will join the MDBA and the dog world will become even more divided than it is now. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I agree. Have you tried her with cooked liver? A small portion two or three times a week would be a nutritious addition if she'd eat it.
-
Yes I completely agree. I take my dogs to a huge unfenced park where dogs are allowed off leash, but it's easy to avoid another dog if you choose to do so. I would never venture into one of those small fenced off areas, they're an accident waiting to happen IMO.

You're right Miranda, it is a mutt - but is there any problem with being forward thinking? Hashing out an issue which apparently plagues the pure bred world? It's not that Clyde, it's the constant little digs about the ANKC that get to me and the frequent references to the MDBA and its supposed superiority. I am certainly not saying that the ANKC is perfect, far from it, but I think we should be getting behind them and initiating change, not joining some other organisation that will, in time, be beset with exactly the same problems as the much maligned ANKC.

Good post Jaxx's Buddy, this must be the first thread that you and I have ever agreed on something

Steve what is stopping you from creating your own forum, perhaps you could call it MDBAonline. This would enable you to talk about labradorxpoodles, developing new breeds, altering breed standards, how the ANKC is a crappy outdated organisation and whatever else you choose to discuss without having to deal with posts from any old fashioned, non-progressive ANKC supporters. It would also be a good place to discuss how you're going to run the MDBA 'shows' and all other events you are planning to conduct in the future. I won't put a little man rolling on the floor with laughter after this post because personally I don't find your continual knocking of the ANKC in the least amusing, I have also noticed that your derogatory remarks have markedly increased since the formation of the new MDBA registry. Well apart from saying that I consider a labxpoodle a mutt, that's all I have to say and if this post gets me a warning or an exclusion from DOL so be it.

True. I have Kelpies/Kelpie-ish dogs so leglessness would not play out well for them I guess I was just trying to ascertain the reason for the above posters' feelings of affront. Perhaps they were under the misapprehension that 'many' was being used as the noun for 'majority'. For clarification 'many' only means 'the majority' when you say: "the many" e.g. music for the many As used above, many just means "a large number of people". Nowhere near a majority or all and hardly offensive really unless you're determined to be snotty in which case, go nuts ... I also found The Ark's comment offensive. If I had a legless puppy or one suffering from cerebral palsy I would also opt for euthanasia, but for humane reasons not because it was unsuitable for showing or breeding. There are usually only a few puppies in a litter that are suitable for showing or breeding anyway and I certainly don't pts those that don't make the grade. However I wouldn't hesitate to pts any puppy that was born deformed or carrying a genetic disorder that prevented it from leading a normal life.

Exactly how Im feeling. Go to a BYB then, as their prime motive for breeding is profit I've no doubt their sales and communications skills are excellent, far better than those of a bunch of elitist snobs. After all it's your money and your choice.

Kissindra that food looks pretty average to me, the ingredients in Rotations are far superior. Ingredients: Wholegrain cereals and cereal by products, Meat and Meat by-products (derived from lamb and poultry), Tallow (derived from poultry and/or beef), Natural Flavour, Dried distillers grain, Whole linseed, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Essential vitamins and minerals and Antioxidants.

I couldn't agree more. OP, you haven't said whether you intend to go ahead with the preliminary xray, but if you are you will be wasting your money. IMO the dam's score isn't high enough to warrant it and as the dog isn't showing any symptoms you certainly can't expect the breeder to pay. No offence, but I think you are overreacting.

Never miss an opportunity. If there's a suitable puppy in the litter take it
-
If someone really wants a quality puppy from an ethical registered breeder then they'll be prepared to do the research and take their time finding a breeder who fits all their criteria. If they're so impatient that they'll give up and rush off to a BYB just because the first few breeders they contact don't reply then so be it, their puppy, their choice. Personally I wouldn't want to sell a puppy to this sort of buyer anyway. Regarding the email received, I wouldn't have anything to do with a breeder who sells puppies without papers even if it isn't a requirement in that particular state. If you can't find a suitable breeder locally, try interstate.

I'd never heard of it, but just checked the ingredients, fat/protein levels etc. and it looks good to me. However it's an imported product and therefore expensive, Black Hawk is also a quality product, half the price and my dogs are doing well on it. So, although Rotations appears to be an excellent food I think I'll stay with Black Hawk

Personally I wouldn't panic, 9/10 isn't that high and neither is a 4 on subluxation. If she were my pup I would just let her grow up and have her scored once she turns 12 months. A dog/puppy would have to have extremely high scores before I would consider any form of surgical intervention. I have never heard that early desexing lessens the chance of HD developing, quite the opposite in fact.

My puppy was lodged at the airport at 9.30am and left at 10.30am, she changed flights in Brisbane and arrived in Rockhampton at 3pm.
-
I flew a 9 week old puppy from Melbourne to Rockhampton in December. I used All Creatures Air Road and the cost was $245.00. There were no problems.

I think his name is Michael Archinal, ive seen him on Kerri-Anne Need I say more Seriously I've looked him up and he specialises in dermatology, animal behaviour and acupuncture, perhaps he should stick to what he knows best.

This is what Dr Ark says in the latest dogs life, i thought it sounded dodgy so i just wanted to check. Who is Dr. Ark, I've never heard of him, does he specialise in hip dysplasia?
-
Where on earth did you read that? The BVA/AVA screening method has certainly greatly improved hip scores in my breed both here and in the U.K. PennHIP isn't highly regarded in the U.S. and when I attended a seminar given by the president of OFFA she was quite dismissive of the PennHIP method. I would never use PennHIP.

When we moved to acreage we just ran an electric fence along the top of the fence surrounding the house yard and it worked well. However all the dogs were locked up when we weren't home.

Why Is Aus Becoming So Non Dog Friendly
Miranda replied to Inevitablue's topic in General Dog Discussion
Absolutely nothing to do with romantic nostalgia dee lee, it's a fact. Australia is a very unfriendly country when it comes to dogs, having lived in both the U.K. and Europe and travelled extensively overseas I can vouch for that. As Christina said, it's a different culture. -
Ooohh do they! Where do you buy them?
-
What does too much condition mean? Should be leaner.
-
I agree, he also has a correct otter tail which is a hallmark of the breed.

What a load of rubbish, I have six dogs here all with floppy ears, none of them scratch and none of them have dirty or smelly ears. I have owned many, many dogs with floppy ears and only two of them had ear problems. None of them have any problems with their hearing either. BTW dogs were bred with floppy ears for a reason, it has nothing to do with selectively breeding for 'cuteness'
