I Feel Like I' M Being Manipulated ......
TheCheekyMonster replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
Im sorry, but did you just say you wanted a pup out of him?? you come on a forum that supports the practice of ethical breeding and does not support the practice of BYB and you just pretty much admitted that you want to breed a dog without being a breeder yourself or have any experience in ethical breeding. Second of all you are contradicting the "not showing him or breeding him fine by me i only ever wanted him in our family none of these things had crossed my mind"... If you want to carry the line let the breeder do it, but after this statement I will be surprised if the breeder even sells you a pup. -
Eastern Suburbs Dog Training

Is there any other club you would recomend with not so big classes? -
They are our pride and joy, and are there when no one else is.... of course we treasure them with every nerve in our body and care desperatly for their welfare, if we didnt I dont think we would be good owners, I think a test run sounds like a great idea, good luck with it :)

Hi Lollipup, I know where you are coming from when you say dad and old training methods.....my father worried the absolute crap out of me when I left Gus at their place but I was lucky enough that my brother took total control and did not let my dad stick his methods into my pups daily routine. They stress less than we do.... Gus howled in his crate for 20 minutes the first night, then never did it again for the other 8 nights, its where you feel safe leaving them...I think it is inevitable they come back a little different because their routine has been disturbed but it’s nothing that can’t be snapped back into shape once you get home...You said you know the manager at the pet motel... maybe have a chat to them about the things that concern you about their facility, maybe he/she can clarify what goes on there im sure they can ease your anxiety.... I stressed about this so much (and I have a 5 month old pup so i think it was a little harder trying to find people who respect how I want to raise my dog). But I came home, he was fine (a little cheekier than usual)but fine. Dogs adapt very quickly.

Revealed: The 5 Most Dangerous Dogs
TheCheekyMonster replied to Red Fox's topic in General Dog Discussion
Correct. But the OP is a light hearted dig at BSL, not an in depth discussion on behavioural problems. well I did not mean to deter from your light hearted digg I thought it was great.... just didnt really understand someones post about rarely mentioning that the dog is in fault......i thought that was contradicting the post, thats all. -

Google the tame foxes in Russia for selection towards non aggression. If non aggression can be selectively bred for it has to have a genetic basis. Your assumption is that every breeder is ethical and takes the dogs good temperament into consideration when planning a mating, but as only about 20% of the dogs in this country are ANKC registered and probably only about the same on other registries (working, greyhound etc)can you guarantee that the breeders of the majority of dogs take temperament into consideration? I saw that doco... its why i would assume the "aggressive gene" was not a real excuse any more because I know temperament is such an important part of breeding the chance of dogs being born with high aggression was not impossible but not as common as just poorly raised dogs... I think the OP was more accurate in a general description than an aggressive gene. -

No I havent researched it maybe you can find a real stat about it... mine was just an exaggerated figure.... but if breeders taking temperament into consideration then we should be seeing "aggression" as a genetic trait be close to not common and it is just poorly raised dogs....? The point im trying to make is we rarely put it down to the dog because it rarely is the dogs fault.....I dont think an "aggressive gene" is to blame for a dogs behaviour, you can not pin down a dogs behaviour to a gene... behaviour is influenced by environment not a gene. -

Technically, it is about the consequences of a dog being fearful or frustrated in a given situation. The threshold and subsequent response (e.g. aggression) certainly does have a genetic component. yes but i think you find that 98% of the time it actually is the owners fault and not the dogs genetic make-up... -
Sorry to change the subject kinda but OMG SHE IS A CUTEY!!

There is no such thing as a genetically agressive dog.. sorry I dont buy it.. its like saying there is a gene for being a spoilt brat... (Unless the dog has a mental illness.. does that even occur in dogs? i'd assume it would??) -

Thanks.....dont know about the large classes, I will see how I find them, I find the joining fee a very reasonable price and the classes very well priced :) I have heard they dont really use "purely positive" training which is why im trying them out in the first place.... thanks for your feed back :) -
Ow she looks like a cheeky bugger!! that oow im too cute so you can NEVER get mad at me hahah... (wait thats just a puppy thing) she is adorable. Maybe at 5am instead of feeding do a little light training to get her to sleep again? :)
-
Hahah where on earth did you get him from to be told he is a pure breed..... I dont think he has any staffy in him.... GSD probably. Either way good luck woth your new pup he is cute. EDIT: after taking a closer look he does look like to have some staffy, the belly/chest area kind of make me thing there would be some spek of staffy.
-
I say staffy, good size, and they can be indoors or out doors, shed but not too much...or a bulldog... (because I saw sherlock Holmes 2 last night and absolutely fell in love with Gladstone)
-
It has absolutely nothing to do with size, but actually the dogs manners in general.....I had Gus on lead and an 11 month old Dane came galloping towards us..... I didnt run or hurry Gus along...I walked as usual... this Dane was sooo well behaved he approached Gus very slowly and read his body language very well he did a very polite sniff of the bum and got right down to Gussys level to say hi, Gus was very confused as to why there was a giant in his face, the Dane picked up on this and shuffled back (still at Gus's level) but Gus reacted so well by not jumping around like a fool or engaging in play straight away he waited..... I dont like it when dogs run upto Gus while his on lead... but if they are well mannered and know how to engage another dogs properly then I guess I like it better then a dog charging full steams ahead and jumping all over us....

I Am Watching A Movie About Dogs
TheCheekyMonster replied to GSDowner's topic in General Dog Discussion
There was a movie I used to watch as a kid.... it was about 2 dogs and a cat, the cats name was sassy, there was a boxer and a golden retriever.. i forget for the life of me what the movie was called but I remember watching it and when it finishing watching all over again.... does anyone know the movie? -
My view is if your dog cant be controlled off lead dont let it off lead.... I hate it when dogs come up to us when both dogs are on lead... its just a compromising position for both dogs..... I wont let Gus approach another dog unless I have spoken to the owner of that dog first and asked permission.... If my dog was bitten and the owner of the dog informed me to keep my dog away I would take full responsibility... it happens to Nala way too often... dogs just charge up to her and she doesn't like it.... and there is a conflict the owner is all the way on the other side of the park... some dog owners are just a joke when it comes to off lead parks.... i think more than anything there should be a level of common scenes for people who go to an off lead dog park.
