What Does Your Dally Diet Consist Of?
TheCheekyMonster replied to TheCheekyMonster's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I just came back from a weekend away... and I never noticed how chubby Gus is getting.... I suspect someone else in the family is feeding him without me knowing about it because he gets 2 Cups of pro plan in the mornings and other 3 wings or a frame at night.... does that sound like a lot of food?.... -
Can I use it on cuts or will it burn Gus? He has a cut on his testicles.

What Does Your Dally Diet Consist Of?

What do you make of the diet in the first website?? -
after watching this video a few times, the beagle is the one who actually looks dog aggressive.... if you watch it closely the pitbulls are actually displaying a lot of play behaviour and the beagle is the one going in for bites.... its only as soon as people show up with threatening body language and attempting to poke the dogs... god knows what the video taker was holding for the dogs to feel so threatened but they were not aggressive to the beagle at all, if anything the beagle is just annoyed the strays are in its personal perimeter, the closer the get the more the beagle screams out... the beagle just seems to have a very annoying over to top bark that sounds a lot worse then what the situation is.... I have watched the video 5 times just to justify the officers actions...

What Facinations Do Your Dogs Have?

Gus met an entire dog lastnight... he had a fascination with his balls!! -
and no one was to know if that had or hadn't happened intially. And even if they had been given info some people ignore it and still ask on the internet what is best. People asking about puppies here will nearly always be referred back to the breeder first up. There was nothing wrong with any of the responses to the OP and she was happy with all the advice and help given. It only turned pear shaped when some people had no helpful advice to give to the OP instead preferring to complain about condescending behaviour and hostile judgemental comments, which only they could see. Im not saying it was anything wrong with it... i'm saying the detailed advise was just as helpful as the suggestion go ask your breeder...

if the "breeder" was that interested in the pups re homing a puppy pack would have gone with the purchase along with feeding and health instructions.... this is not the case... and until we hear other wise I think the collective information gathered from this forum is the OP best chance at 1) becoming educated and 2) providing a better quality life for her new member....

Are you serious (re bolded bit)? I think it'd be terrible to lose a Police Officer who is capable to fufill their duties because they reacted in a way to ONE situation that some animal radicals do not approve of - when the blame lies SOLELY at the roaming dogs' owners feet. Another option if you want them fired is to make the owner of the two dogs to pay the full costs to train a new officer to take the dismissed officers place! That might encourage them to keep their dogs contained. I simply cannot comprehend how people can blame the Beagle or it's owner???? So what if the dog was chained - even if just for 10 minutes - bottom line is those two dogs should not have been roaming. If a stray dog came into our property and started to menace our fowl I would have no quarms in shooting it if the ACO's didn't arrive in time. Lol did you hear what he said? he hardly sounded regretfull of his decision.... he even looked at the dog and didnt shoot it once but 3-4 times!!! common, the dog had not bitten any one yet... they were just over it barking.. if they can tackle people at knife point why can 3 men not takle a dog?

Can you give some examples? Bear in mind that "do nothing" probably wasn't an option here. I find the Beagle's terrified screaming really distressing. More than one dog suffered here. If there's anger to be directed at a person here, save it for the owner of the dogs that put them in this situation. The police are those called in to act when irresponsible people don't.. and yet they are the ones being judged here. Go figure. This footage is recent ie not filmed over 10 years ago... the officer would have pepper spray, a batten and other weapons besides a Gun.... when an officer is faced with a threat the very last option unless in strong belief the situation is endangering their life beyond doubt and any other by-standers then they are permitted to shoot... I did not see any other attempt to solve this problem and I hope that officer looses all rights in relation to restoring justice - And may i say before someone decided to start poking the dog with a shovel it was in quite a playful mood..... both of them... so throwing a ball or food of some sort in the other direction probably would not have been a bad idea.

Gus ate a white Nectarine the other day LOVED IT!! lol new high value reward I'm pretty sure... after he finished he got up and searched the whole bedroom for more... then looks at me like mum I cant find any more -
However Donatella, have you considered how frustrating (downright infuriating at times) it is for folk here when a new poster who has bought a pup from a source other than a responsible breeder is contantly seeking advice that they should be getting from the dog's breeder? Breeder takes no responsibility and others get to assume it. I appreciate that not everyone knows better and for that reason I try to be kind to those buyers who find their way here. However, when a person who's been here a while goes out and does it, I feel somewhat less than kind. I think its using forum members for their knowledge while sticking the middle finger up to what this place stands for. If I had my way, such posters wouldn't get be here any longer. Fortunately for them, Troy is more tolerant. Oh and another pet peeve. Please don't buy a crossbred pup and then suddenly morph it into a purebred because it suits you to call it by a breed name. When you start giving advice by saying "well I have a Boggadog and it does x" when you've got nothing of the kind, I tend to get a bit Rant over, back on medication now. ;) Lets get back to giving the OP usefull advise... not general rants about nothing relating to this thread. Peach1401 - hows the new understanding of puppy diet coming along? any ideas what avenue you will try??

Where Do Your Dogs Sleep?
TheCheekyMonster replied to Rilla-My-Rilla's topic in General Dog Discussion
When I picked up Gus I noticed he slept outside in a crate... at home he sleeps in a crate inside the laundry.... I would probably like him outside though by time his 1.... but we will see. -

Well that was unexpected... Good on her :) Thanks for posting that Melzawelza. Why unexpected? Although she misread the dog, her actions were those of someone who feels affection for animals. It would be good if she gets as many apologies from judgmental dog-experts as she got condemnations for being 'stupid'. . . . but I doubt that will happen. Unexpected that she would choose to look at the event in that positive light as a learning experience.... most public figures/entities the public would expect to act the total opposite.. I was not expecting her to come out and give that type of an interview it was refreshing.

Ok well i dont think she is from a breeder of any professional sort... so lets give some advise of good quality puppy food that other staffy owners have done well on. .... I know our girl did well on innova evo and pro plan... Chicken necks (make sure they are eaten supervised... hold it while she eats it so she chews)... might not be a bad idea to book her in to a vet see how she is doing health wise, what vaccinations has she had?... make the transition slowly with the food as well. I'm always happy to provide support to puppy owners but it really should be coming from the breeder. My advice to anyone reading this thread, is to make sure you purchase your puppy from an ANKC registered breeder, a breeder who cares enough to provide your puppy with the best start to live and then offers ongoing support, especially when it comes to the basics of feeding, worming, vaccination and general care. A 10 week old SBT puppy will be fine eating chicken wings, pieces of lamb flap and you can start them on turkey wing tips and roo tail. SBT's in general do not do well with a diet that includes grains, preservatives, colours and additives. If you are going to feed dry, go with a premium dog food, one without grain. They can also have cans of sardines, mackeral, natural yogurt, eggs shell and all and some fruit and veg. When they get bigger and more adventurous they can tackle rabbits and raw salmon heads.

was just going to start a thread like this, our two have soars on their ears from the flies and we have tried EVERYTHING cleaned their whole area, have got mosquito coils around their area, have been using "troy" insect repellant and vetbasix that is doing nothing at all, have sprayed them with a solution of vinegar and water, have cleaned their ears... these flies are lethal.... the dogs have such bad bites on their ears.. even when us humans go out side we are being eaten alive!! and they damn hurt!.

How long do entire bitches last for? IME false pregnancy generally goes for about the same length of time as a real one but the amount the bitch 'shows' depends a lot on the bitch, some just retain a bit of fluid, some produce milk and appear to go in to labour. When they have been on heat bitches go through virtually all the same hormonal stages whether they have been mated or not (and whether they are pregnant of not) so it's hardly surprising they have false pregnancies really. I understand this is a survival mechanism common to canines (wolves, feral/wild dogs) as all the bitches in a pack tend to cycle together but only one or two are usually permitted to breed, so if they all have the same hormonal changes and the real mum dies then one of the others can step up to the plate. No idea how well this works in "the wild" but I know a lot of dog breeders report other bitches in the household produce milk and help out the mum if allowed. Lol Smart ass :p That’s crazy!!.... well the same thing happens to females who are together for a prolonged period of time... their menstrual cycle will sync to some degree... pretty cool but props to the people who own entire bitches... i couldnt do it haha.
