  1. I'm only speaking from experience, and i have stated i have not been to a world of shows.... but the ones i have been to I have felt quite uncomfortable walking my dog to its designated area....and as a result i was disappointed because i did have a quite different expectation.... and in relation to "is it ok to pat a dog at a dog show" I think a show dog should be approachable (you should always ask the premission of the owner obviously) but i'd assume they were friendly.... after all they do asses temperament in the ring do they not? - And im a little confused about how puppy buyers play into it :S . The biting comment was made reference to "what if a dog bit you"... I'm saying it shouldn’t be biting.
  2. Hahah I was waiting for something like this thank you!!!..... I think show dogs should be one of the most socialised, and I have been to 5 shows and I’m pretty disappointed with the behaviour of some/most of the dogs I have to say, it’s nearly impossible to walk any dog past another without barking or snarling..... I think the point of a show dog is to represent the best of the breed... biting when not threatened should not be a part of that display... I believe they are suppose to be approachable, by dog and human... not just the judge in the ring. And sorry if i have offended anyone but this has been my personal observation in the few shows I have been to since taking an interest in showing. Dogs are dogs and your expectations are way too high. Dogs are not meant to mingle with hundreds of other dogs that are not part of their pack. They do it because we, their people, ask it of them. Different breeds have vastly different temperaments. You can not ask that they all be generic. To do so would turn them into something else. Dogs have bad days and good days, some like more space then others etc. Dog shows are stressful places for most dogs. The vast majority you see there, whatever the behaviour they exhibited, are great pets at home, able to be walked out and about without a single problem. You put 500 odd people in a smallish area, define their space etc and you can bet there will be snarling and carrying on. why do you expect so much more of dogs? Maybe I did have a high expection, I just know my dogs and that they have never acted like that around other dogs (even at a show) who have not aposed a threat, and I did have an expectation that show dogs would not be so edgy.... its a wake-up call to myself and if anything just makes me feel a little uncomfortable to be around so many dogs that react..... I could understand if it were 3-5 but I'm talking about a whole row of dogs who wont pipe down whenever another dog walks past, who cares it not part of their pact? we are not raising dogs to gang up and be agressive towards other dogs who are not "part of the pact".....

  4. I havent read the other responses, because there are many but!, I am new to the show world and I GET SOOOOO FREAKING EXCITED when i see breeds iv never seen in person and i always ask if I can pat them, if people say no then i guess i could understand but for me its just pure joy seeing dogs and I always want to pat them and its a great chatting point for me, because i like to learn about other breeds......but i always ask first.
  5. Excellent!!!, thank you guys so so soooooo much, I got a cloth last night soaked it in the tea which had been brewing for 20 minutes then gently sponged him with it... this morning all the infection has healed up wonderfully, and there are no lumps!!! absolute god sent.
  6. do you bath them in it?? or just spray it on the infected area
  7. Omg i didnt even know they came in 4 colours!!, im only familiar with two, what are the other two? The other two (I'm thinking you've seen the browns?) are blue and isabella which is a fawn colour. The blues have terrible skin problems as a general rule, so not very popular. aaaaa the fawn ones would be awesome!! (maybe) Both fawns and blues can get colour dilution alopecia (CDA) which makes them go bald. There is a genetic test for colour now so most responsible breeders choose not to produce the dilutes... Puppy buyers *think* having a "rare" blue/fawn is awesome... Until it goes bald! Hahah well I did not know this either, the colour is awesome but not at the expense of an illness.. :) cheers i learnt something new
  8. can dogs eat apples, ??? I ask because i just gave Gus one without thinking

  12. Dally -No they are not black with white spots, and they are not stupid, they just require intelligent owners and used to assist horse carriages back in the day. APBT - To the adults - no she is not a shar pei cross, does not kill babies, and yes her and my dally are best friends Children - She is a pocket rocket who loves to give kisses.
  13. I can not for the life of me get Gus to come near a running hose... when he was younger he used to bark at the running tap, his gotten over that and will now drink from it but i cant not bath him for the life of me... it ends up with me wetter than him, and my face red with rage because he doesnt sit still...... I must say his a lot better then when i first atempted it but god i wish it was easier..... anyone have any suggestions? I can only bath him outside as well so its a little cold, I use warm water though to make it a little easier for him. Ziggy puts his head under running water. He even goes underwater in his pool - it is so funny to see. If it is mud, his whole head is under again.. he loves water. My old stafford did to, Ollie would make a bee line for the sprinklers at the park every time we were down there and they were on (even the day before he was given his wings, he was bouncing in and out of the sprinkler)... Warm water makes a big difference to bathing dogs IMO.. Treating for sitting still - we go through heaps of treats for the fosters when they need a bath (I am yet to get one that likes water like Ziggy does).. Nala is like that.... total water baby and just sits there as you bath her.... im yet to try treats... hahah its so much of a struggle i never think of it...will try that next bath.

  18. whenever our too play this game it sounds like someone is dying and Gus usually ends up with small battle wounds..... is that a sign that the game has gone too far? when there are little scratches under his neck?..
