Putting On The Beef - Without The Beef
TheCheekyMonster replied to TheCheekyMonster's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Porridge aye! never thought of that one... shall check the purine content, he cant eat lamb its way to high in purine, chicken, turkey are good im sure porridge will be fine, so i mix that in with the kibble? -
Gus needs to start putting on weight.... Currently he has 4 cups of Artemis usually, a few days a week he will also get either a chicken frame, turkey wings or 1 egg and 3 spoons of natural yoghurt (with the kibble) and he is still quite on the slim side.. i'd like a little more beef on him, any suggestions?

Also, potentially dangerous Some otherwise perfectly normal dogs can get quite nasty if humped and could turn on your boy. I suspect my girl would be one such dog if I was ever not there to call her back Ow yes I forgot about that, yeap Nala is one of thoes girls who can not stand being mounted and so I totally understand it, I guess putting him back on lead is the best option, but i'd like him to learn that its not accepted, he is also entire... (still deciding wether I am going to show him, its a little time consuming)... Well to be honest I was not watching too closely to see wether he has warning signs, he also didnt know what to do with himself.... its not a solid hold rear end and mount... its like thrusting hips in every direction has no clue what his doing type thing... but never the less he will get worse if i dont nip it in the but now.... That is typical- they get excited and their brain stops working and some young ones can even look a little confused when it happens. Its not a habit at this point so should be easy enough to get under control, particularly if your other dog won't allow it to happen. Ow god no he knows very well NEVER to hump nala, it was not a pleasant past time for him... lol

Well, my baby has hit the ripe old age of 10 months, and he is starting to Mount..... we went to the dog park the other day and all Gus wanted to do was pin down a chocolate Lab and go for gold..... I have not seen him do this in a while, the first time was when we bought him home at 8 weeks, but Nala put him into line and i had not seen it again till 6 months at the dog park with another male, i assumed he was just very excited... but this time he was very persistent, and I have no idea how to deal with it..... suggestions please?? I dont want him mounting every dog he sees, its embarrassing and impractical.

Hahah yes!!, I kind of noticed that, where do I get thoes things from?? I had to put the toy away because Nala got a little too crazy and it is a little dangerous over the pavement. I have been supervising all play with it today just to see what needs adjusting. -

Yes well if it were my house I would do that, but I share a house with my boyfriend and his family... so im just trying to exhaust my options so he is less of a hindrance to other members in the house. -

Yea thats a little dangerous.... Nala is a water baby... Gus just likes the ocean... if one of thoes poped while i was not home and Gus ate it (which he would) i would probably come home to a suffocated dog lol. -

I think his just a menace!! the thing is any toys that are left out will be destroyed by Nala.... nothing lasts more then 5 minutes when she is about. I'm going to get some sand today for the clam... shove some toys in there and see how we go. But as I have discovered it doesnt matter what toys are out there, if the couch has been left out he will start to tear up the seats, if there is washing he will pull it down, if there is none of the above he ill dig.... I understand he is bored and this is something I need to correct and quite fast... but I have spent quite a lot of money on toys that have not lasted too long... Soo the 3 toys rotating is good, also spraying them! never thought of that!! but what toys have people had success with? he loves squeezers, can anyone recommend some great durable toys? -

Ow they are awesome!! thanks, the heavy duty chook might me the go!! -
I walk Gus in the morning and play with him for an hour before I go to work, OH has been home this week and told me Gus is ripping washing off the line... obviously he is bored. What are some great interactive toys for two dogs that dont involve treats, my life would be soooo much easier if I could leave food around these two but I cant... Nala gets pushy, bossy and doesnt quit when it comes to her food, so I need other solutions... P.s I did have quite a few toys out there for him but they have gone missing...and he still seems to want to distroy everything else that is not his toys.....
-
Lol I can understand that.... I think i was just overwhelmed by my experience so far, I have not seen dogs react like that, mine dont react to other dogs unless being bullied physically... even Gus will just roll on his back. And I'd love to go mingle with most the dogs I see at a show... but just by the way they react I'd not even ask for a pat..... from the OP question is it right or wrong I think dogs at dogs shows should be approachable and it would be right to ask permission to pat a dog before doing so.

Sorry, but im not talking about the bark some dogs do to alert their owners or whatever.... its more of a growl and hackles up trying to get out of the crate situation.... and imo thats not ok, especialy in a heavily dog populated event... and I have not come across any breed standard which states will bite if approached.... barking is not an indication of agression but other signals along with barking like hackles up, lips curled are.

Maybe i have just been around some very unsettled dogs

:rofl:Hahah my dally is FARRRRR from well behaved or robotic Jesus i bloody wish!!, but he sure does not react the way the others around him do... neither does my pitbull for that matter, but i think some show dogs could be a little less on edge and i was pretty naive coming into the show world so yes I had an expectation that has quickly been grounded and i wish it hadn’t, it was kinda like finding out that santa is'nt real.... guess life isn’t all rainbows and butterflies.
