New Puppy Guide For Potential Owner

HAHAH thats my first point on the agenda... they are not "rare" I cant believe the amount of stupid people who purchase "blue" SBTs for thousands of dollars because they are "rare" where can I find more info about that actually?? probably sending her a copy of the standard would be a good idea.... I actually met someone the other day who paid $6,000.00 for a blue staffy... I found it sickning. -

Why would you send them a link to Oscar's Law? I mean do you know what it is? What is the actual LAW behind Oscar's Law? Yes yes, ... I just want them to be knowledgeable about puppy farms, pet shops etc. because the first thing they said was there were staffy pups at the markets that looked cute...I also want to send them a link to staffy rescue. I have not sent anything yet (sorry i didnt word myself properly before)... its sitting in my draft box.. thats why im asking... I'm not sure what to send to deter them from BYB, petshops and dogs in markets. -
I want to put together a list of things a family friend should look at before purchasing a pup, websites and what not... they are interested in a staffy so I have given them the link to the puppy listings on DOL, breeds 101 and an Oscars Law link...... what else can I send them?...

His legs fall into a pretty good position its just getting him to stand still... so I think beck's suggestion was good... teaching him to be still first might be the go... hopefully he can learn that in 7 days? -

I'm afraid Dally's are not the best guard dog anymore haha... especially a well socialised one  .... I wish any of my Dalmatians alerted me to an intruder instead of licking them!..... Nala on the other hand EXCELLENT watch/guard dog... she wont bite... but she will let us know if someone not welcomed is near the house.

Stacking/standing Nightmare
TheCheekyMonster replied to TheCheekyMonster's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes, I was looking at those show stackers!! they look difficult to use, im scared he would fall off..... because Gus is soooooo active and a wriggly bum the command "sit" gets him everywhere in life... just because its been so difficult to keep him from jumping and all the rest so asking him to sit is our best hope.... hahah I didn’t teach "stand" as such for a while mainly because I just forgot its importance being new to owning a show dog and a pup for myself and not my families dog it was a little different and unfortunately i learnt a little late what I had to do...but hopefully with a lot more practice Gus and I will get there...I think Kikopup does a nice standing lesson... I might try her but everyone has been so helpful thanks :) That is part of the purpose of showstackers. They quickly learn that they CAN'T wriggle on them. If you taught "sit" reliably then use the same principles to teach "stand" and you'll be fine. You don't have to lay out the expense of showstackers either. 4 supersized tins of pineapple, beetroot or whatever placed where they can't slide is just as adequate in the short term. :) Ooow, that is a good idea!!.... well stacking phase 1 tonight.... will post photos of our progress haha :) -

Boredom Buster For Multi Dog Household
TheCheekyMonster replied to TheCheekyMonster's topic in General Dog Discussion
all our boredom busters are disappearing!!!... the dogs keep hiding all the toys, we are building our own spring pole but we haven’t built it as such yet just because making it safe is worrying me. BUT EVERYTHING ELSE IS BEING EATEN!! and they won’t play unless we are outside? -

it's better if you practise every day or two then rely on just a weekly thing. And practise everywhere, why would you restrict it to the laundry Becks has given great advice. I do practice every day, and sorry I just restrict it to the laundry when its raining, but I do usually practice at our local park... Becks has given great advice, thanks :) -

Lol, well Sunday should be interesting, once again I wont be able to go to show training this week, its been nearly 2 months....grrr!!.... Guess I will just have to practice in the laundry... but Gus really could do with the added distraction of other dogs.....His so good running next to me, fantastic at that.... im just worried about him mucking up... I should just slap myself and get over it huh? haha his probably not as bad as I think. -
Stacking/standing Nightmare

I used to stack his back this way that is shown, my show trainer said not to because it creates an arch in his back...(it kinda did) but I needed to get him used to the judges touching his back legs any way... he was not to fond of this the first time round. -

Ill stack his back legs, then move to check the front and he sits!, or will attempt to turn around and eat his tail. -
Every time i go to stack Gus HE FREAKING WRIGGLES AND WORMS!! how do I stop this, its so annoying and its not improving, as a pup it was forgiven his 10 months now, judges are probably going to be more than displeased with him.

Most Suitable Show Lead
TheCheekyMonster replied to TheCheekyMonster's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks guys!, yes It probably is a very personal choice I just need a "ball point figure" so to speak so I can start from a "recommended" and work my way around that. Just because I am totally clueless, Gus is 10 months and he has only been in one show, i feel so bad but time just slips away! and we started late so his "show lead" ediquit is not desiarable at the moment.
