  1. Dontatella has found poodle pups available under $1,000. She has concluded she has proven me wrong and seems keen to drive the point home. She needs to reread my entire statement a time or six. :) oooooow
  2. haha, I have also told my younger brothers and sisters to NOT pat the dogs, they have never been taught to ask, I only learned to ask through DOL... my little brother never asks to pat dogs and so far his been lucky, hopefully now they have learnt something, they were as shocked as I was to hear you cant pat them so I'm glad I found this out sooner rather than later, and in a safe way!
  3. .... hahah tell her to get some ball park figures, or maybe you can contact the breeders and do it for her?... maybe the whole process of picking a breeder, contacting them, ect is too much for her?
  4. Just because the person has had them since they were a pup doesn't mean they can't possibly have temperament flaws. A dogs tempermanet is genetic, it's the environment that turns genes on and off. I'm not sure why you're shocked? Not all dogs want pats frm strangers or even like strangers. im shocked because; 1. You wouldnt suspect it, they appear comfortable and placid. 2. I did not realise this sooner 3. I could understand if one was reactive... but both? and they got the dogs at the same time 4. WHY LAUGH ABOUT IT!!!! having a reactive dog is not a laughing matter and every time we saw him we would say hi as they walked past....It just took me by suprise.... I think given the circumstances shocked is a pretty natural response.
  5. I think she freaked out once her owner started to engage, she didnt mind me talking, it was when her owner responded to me more than once that she lost the plot... could have been a number of things, the fact that I was turning away after he had responded to me...not sure... I just did not expect it, thats all... not saying anyone is irresponsible, but if a child or someone came from behind to ask the question, he had head phones in... he cant hear.. someone may have walked closer to them and there could be a different ending.... they are not strangers to the neighbourhood someone who has not been taught to ask first could have just walked up.... Yeah, I wouldn't wear headphones even if both of mine were perfect, I want to know if people are approaching. So do i, Gus has not one agressive bone in his body... but he sure likes to jump on people and I like to be ready for it when people come up for a pat....I just never envisioned these dogs to be reactive...I had no reason too, and it just puzzled me thats all, I thought I would have picked up on this earlier.
  6. On the weekend we just did a photo shoot in a place in concord, its called Private Road, its horse ranch, but you walk down the road in the middle and you go through these gates and it opens up into gardens, just lots of little gardens.... its quite beautiful walk around... dogs must be on lead though.

  8. I did wait, I took a step closer to hear the man properly as I was quite some distance away, and the owner was laughing, I've had quite a few people tell me no I cant pat their dog only to find out they are totally taking the micky out of me.... If you are serious about your dog being agressive towards strangers the least an owner could do is be dead serious about it and not imply otherwise....secondly why cant I be suprised? I've never seen any sign of agression from these dogs i've seen children walk them, I have no reason to think they would lunge out... I think being a little taken back is a natural reaction from your average joe like me who doesnt know much about EVERY dog personality... I think its quite arrogant to think people would.... as someone has stated not everyone asks to pat a dog first especially ones that look as deceptive as these two..... I have also stated my street is full of people and children... so I think its a disaster waiting to happen, and the owner actually had not much control over his dog at all when it started to loose it... he actually had to kick it to make it stop.... And not only that, if a dog is likely to bite a human with its owner at the other end of the lead, I beleive that is something to take note of.......If the dog is likely to bite precausions need to be taken... especially if you dont have control over it.. a Muzzle for a start would be helpful.
  9. I would understand if I was close... but I had to pretty much shout for the guy to hear me.... ow well each dog to their own.
  10. exactly.... i just did not expect the dogs to react like that... there actually was no warning at all and the owner was laughing when he said no... so i thought he was joking.... I thought he was very responsible once I had a chance to think about the situation.... and the dog gave no warning signs to say it was uncomfortable ( i was 5 meters away. its not like i was in the dogs face) and it was as i turned to walk away that it just snapped.... everyones point is very valid... I have never come across such a situation, and seeing these dogs grow up it did take me by surprise that they were reactive.... sorry and i said how does that work because take out the factor that one may have been born with a temperamental issue my knowledge is limited in dog aggression the only thing i know is if a dog is not positively socialised with humans and other dogs they are more susceptible to reacting in a negative way.... not knowing this guy or his dogs for a bar of soap, just seeing them on a regular basis i did assume they would be friendly, obviously thats my bad for assuming every dog who walks like a happy camper with its owner and grand children (who range from 10-15) would be a friendly dog to pat.... i wouldnt be letting the kids walk them though...now i know they react like that.
  11. 2 dogs, from 8 weeks old pups, both aggressive towards people... for me it was strange because in 2 years of seeing them every morning when i left for school and every arvo when i came back and have never seen them react to anything... it was just not what i expected... and to have 2 aggressive dogs must be pretty bad luck... and I think more than a want to be martingale should be on them if thats how they react, to bad if i was a little closer and asked the question or I was a child.....my secondary reaction was why dont you have a muzzle on those things.. as I stated my street is very people and family orientated people and kids running around all the time.... when I did have that brief discussion, his explanation was they are a bit funny?....
  12. it wasn't a bark out of not knowing what a human is though, it was like pure aggression, like it hated humans... but i have seen his gradchildren walk them.. and they are both in such cute pink collars and it was just like double take..... i do have a feeling they may not have been socialised with anyone but family members, but its just odd because they are having a walk in our very people orientated street twice a day...our streets always packed and i've never seen her react but maybe no one has asked to pat them before, because it was like as soon as he got nervous she lashed out.... (only one lashed out... the other was just very wary)... its sad such beautiful dogs and i dont know what happened to them!
  13. There is a man who walks his red kelpie and Siberian husky twice a day around our street... he has had these two dogs since pups, they always look so pleasant just enjoy their walk and i've never seen them interact with anything that passes they are absolutely stunning!!, they are about 2 years old now and I have ALWAYS wanted to become acquainted with them but never had the chance to ask for a pat... well yesterday I had the chance, I was about 6 meters away, and i yelled out can I have a pat... he stops as he sees me walk towards him takes our his headphones and asks me to repeat myself... (im 5 meters at this point) so I do, he laughs and says no you cant they arnt friendly.... I was shocked, and thought he was joking.. so i laughed back and said ow really, his like yea they will bite you... and all of a sudden the kelpie lashes out and starts snarling at me snapping and basically going nuts, I have never been so shocked I backed away back into my car and said puzzled haven't you had them since they were pups and his like yea but they are a bit funny.... WTF!!!!!! how does that work? if you saw these dogs you would think they are the most loved and cared for dogs, yet to see it react like that from a person 5 meters away was just mind boggling....
  14. Thanks guys all the info is helpful, as his still a pup I didnt want to do the heart worm injection initially, but Gus needs a check up of his tail so ill mention it to our vet then.
  15. I have not wormed Gus in quite some time... probably all winter, just because it has slipped my mind and something just triggered my memory. I have heard its dangerous to heart worm a dog if they already have a heart worm... how do I know if he has one, and should i worm him asap?
  16. it's just a show like any other. Even the Royals are still just dog shows. You might pay more in entry fees as the prizes might be better and someone has to pay to get those international judges here :D I just dont want to offend anyone..... hopefully the international German judge has a funny bone, because his going to need it for his puppy class!
  17. I without reading properly have entered Gus into the GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY WINTER INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW.....this was not a good idea was it? Someone give me an honest opinion if i should just not show up on the day.. hahah are these shows the deep end of the show spectrum.. it sounds all fancy and top of the range show dog like.
  18. yeap they are good with the basic training at home, but i think she could do with socialisation.
  19. Lagotto Romagnolo !!! IMO purebred version of a labradoodle hahah :) dont know if they shed or not though.. will get back to you on that one.
  20. pfft, I got ripped off big time, just looked at the vet were Gus did his classes.... their prices have dropped DRAMATICALLY!! ill be telling him about this
  21. No she isnt unfortunatly, I dont think he can afford it, but I will mention it to him this weekend and see what he says, puppy pre-school is a little expensive around our area too, I think i paid $550 for ours.
  22. Where I live (upper north shore) there are about six dog parks within 20 minutes driving range. All of them have taps, poo bags and bins. Most cafes around this area also allow you to sit at the outside area with your dogs. We regularly take our dogs out to dinner with us. And in some inner city areas like City of Sydney and Liechhardt Council, there are off leash parks within a fifteen minute walk of most properties. Most of these are shared spaces and not fenced and may be time limited, but I think the ease of access makes for better socialized dogs and less dig on dog aggression. It certainly seems rare from my perspective. WHERE!!!hahah I have never been able to find any!! someone PM me some awesome parks in this general area! please and thank you
  23. Sure haha, saw the little monkey on the weekend she has put on quite a bit of weight and is loving life no more kennle cough thats all clearned up, such a happy camper... he does need to work on her puppy manners though... she loves other dogs but she tends to just lunge for them....so hopefully we can get her and Gus playing because he doesnt care who lunges at him... they attempted to introduce her to Nala, but i didnt think that was the best idea..... was not the right setting....and Nala is all puppied out from Gus. WIll let you all know how that pans out.
