The Silken Windhound is lovely. These dogs arent the prettiest but their circumstances makes me want to aquire some but unless we win lotto I cant see that happening http://www.galgopodencosupport.org/galgos-podencos/

They are so astute, many times I've said how did they know that or to do that. As an instructor the amount of times I saw dogs run rings around their owners and the gadgets used to prevent whatever:-)

I started this thread after a discussion at work. Similar stories to these came up with my work colleagues as well. These stories could be spruiked as reasons why we need dogs in our lives, along with the many other benefits.

When I first got my youngest Grey I'm guessing he hadnt travelled in cars much as he would have a loose poop and release his anal glands. He did this one time on the way into town, I stopped got as much off the blanket as I could rolled it up and put it into a bag and continued on our way. In town as I was looking for a carpark in the park I noticed a small group of young boys walking around some parked cars and I thought to myself they they are casing those cars. Anyway found a park got the dogs out locked the car leaving the back windows down a couple of inches. As I was walking away I noticed the kids had started looking around the cars where mine was parked, they spotted mine with the windows down and went over to it. I was kind of hidden from their view by some bushes, they looked in the front windows, looked around to see if anyone was watching and then moved to the back window. By this stage I had my phone out ready to take a pic if they put their hand in. One of the guys must have got a whiff of the blanket turned and walked away waving his hand in front of his face, the others had a sniff and followed suit. I was standing there nearly wetting myself laughing, made sure they left then continued on my walk. Who'd have thought a pooey blanket could be useful:-)

Subject of RSPCA search over 'alleged animal cruelty' shares photos of loved pet
m-j replied to asal's topic in In The News
lol yummm decaying possum. It is good that people are speaking up about what they suspect is cruelty and it is good that the RSPCA inspected the accusations quickly and it is even better that the accusations where unfounded, but what a pain for the owners. -
Thanks Maddy she amazingly doesn't do the "screams of death" they are reserved for the vet at vaccination time before the needle is even touching her, she's a little bit precious. The first time the new vet was vaccinating her the vet had placed her hand on her back and before the needle point had even touched her Venus screamed, the look of surprise on the vet's face was priceless.

I have cut her nails (much to her absolute disgust, she was more tolerant of me getting the corn out) on the angle but there isn't really much to cut off without the risk of nicking her but I will continue to do this when I do cut her nails hopefully it will shorten then as she does need her nails to be shorter. I did their nails about 3 weeks ago and there was no nail to cut if I had cut it the usual way. My boy I only just tipped but his nails are good. Thank you everyone for your input. Papillon Kisses that is the article I was reading which lead me to asking here.

Thank you will check these suggestions out.

Hi I have a Greyhound that has very long quicks so that makes her nails long. I was reading somewhere if you cut the nail on an angle the quicks will shorten. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this or knows if it is possible to shorten a quick. TIA

Hmm what the owner of the dogs says about the incident and what I have seen in the footage differs somewhat. To the point where Im wondering how accurate her accusations directed at the guy with the bat are.

Oh fair enough I did figure it must have been a bit more than just stirring the pot.

As Phersephone has said internet isnt the best way to get advise as the person giving the advice isnt seeing what is happening. You have identified two situations which are triggers until you learn how to manage the dog in those situations, avoid them or at least keep your dog below his threshold (point where he reacts). I wouldnt stress too much about him, he more than likely has his reasons that only he will know about for behaving like he is, it will ruin the pleasure that you can have. Good training advice and not allowing to hone his aggression skills (i.e. if there is a Goldie in your group classes stay as far away as possible until you can get that advice) is the best way forward.

While I dont know why, it is a bit of a pity as he certainly stimulated discussion. He was a bit tiresome with the obsession of not desexing dogs and ignoring the consequences for the unwanted pups/dogs though.

Sorry to hear of your losses but you can console yourself with the fact of without you their lives would have probably been a lot shorter and decidedly less quality.

Super Duper Greyhound Adoption Weekend Seymour!

How was the w/e I hope it was successful. I wish I could afford another one (as far as keep goes) they are such fantastic dogs. -
I feel for you it is a horrible decision to have to make. I dont know if this will help or not but my sister was diagnosed with terminal cancer and as she was waiting to die with ever increasing pain she said to me dogs are so lucky they can be putdown, it has helped me make that horrible decision on a couple of occasions.

Yes I have had my chooks killed by foxes and as you said very quietly without alerting my dogs until I reinforced their pen. I know they do damage to stock lambs in particular but are they as bad as they are made out to be, feral dogs would be a bigger issue and they seem to be spreading their habitats, either that or people are just more careless. After talking to a dogger I wouldnt completely dismiss that thought, sadly.
-
I just wonder how much damage foxes actually do. One time I saw a fox go through a mob of sheep and lambs, not one moved, the vast majority didnt even raise their heads, if that fox had been a dog it would have been a very different scenario.

I think the potential for things to go pear shaped in the right circumstances is increased tenfold with that many dogs. I used to walk up to seven large dogs for many years nothing ever went badly pear shaped but I was walking in a rural environment and I knew all the dogs in the town where friendly. Was I ever complacent, NEVER I knew that just because it had never happened didnt mean it wouldnt i.e. if some travellers pulled up in the park and had their dog off lead we didnt go there, Im not very trusting of the average owners assessment of their dog (that comes from my instructor years). If I was paying someone to walk my dogs and be assured that person was going to keep them safe I wouldnt hire someone who assured me they couldhandle that many dogs under all circumstances, because I believe they are either lying or naive.

No help at all but thank goodness he isn't looking for explosives Do you know any explosive detection handlers? -
This is why I like my Greys, they are teaching me about motivation, but if I don't have the time or inclination to train it isn't a pain.
