I forgot to ask about what you've done with crate and pen training. Does he spend any time in the crate or are you using this as his toilet?
-
It sounds like you're doing the right thing Erin. There are a couple of things I can suggest that you may not have tried. Don't let him out of your sight when he's inside. Maybe assign someone on puppy watching duty. If he has a couple of days of not toileting inside things should be a lot better. Another way to do this is to tie him to yourself with a lead so he can't sneak away. Try a baby gate across your bedroom door - I have 5 of these and they are handy for keeping puppies out of rooms. I'm not a big fan of dogs sleeping in people beds however house rules are your choice. I would suggest while he's still not toilet trained that you sleep him in a crate beside your bed rather than in your bed. A very important thing is to not get stressed by all this. Keep the pup under your full control on a lead and/or in his crate and this should be fixed. Pups are not responsible for accidents but I know it can be very frustrating Hope this helps BP

My gsps are both on Bonnie working dog. They love it, they don't fart and their poos break up nicely. Bruno used to be on Proplan puppy and the pet shop had a special on - free 20kg dog food container of which I managed to get two. They are similar to a big biscuit tin. I use them for the Bonnie Working Dog and they keep the food fresh. Not that there's much risk of dog food getting old in my house .

I took Bella to the vet yesterday, as he walked over to her room she did a big leap onto a little chair behind me to hide from him . He was very amused and impressed with her jumping abilities. She's 25kgs and 55cm tall.

Perfect Recall Training Using Ecollar
BrunoBella replied to BrunoBella's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Sounds like you made fantastic progress fast. It was a good investment :p and I agree, steves manual is straightforward. My FridayUpdate: I had a fantastic ecollar day today. Both dogs are up to nearly their top distractions - Possums at night for bella and butterflies for Bruno. Tonight, as we were coming home bella spotted possums above us and started her beautifull highpitched screaming. I corrected her with the martingale and made her sit. I then pulled out my remote and let her out on her long lead practicing recall, sit and saad. She did them all! Bit of a delay, of course, as its her first time. But this is all 2 weeks into training and we are already working on her highest level of distraction. I repeated the exercise with bruno, but he does not have as many distractions as Bella so he was great from the first moment. On low distraction, both dogs are doing avoidance rather than escape. Once we have them both sorted we just have to do Proofing which is gradually removing the stimulations for the commands. I love my ecollar ;) Just as a general information, both dogs will recall while we're walking now so I very rarely have to correct using the martingale, and, Bella has moved from her prong to a martingale without resorting to pulling eta--- I have also been working very hard on leadership. -
Both my dogs could hold all night from 8 weeks. I never had to take them out. They toilet trained themselves You're doing a good job. I agree with the time out. Some puppies don't know when to stop! Have fun

:D Great stories! Bella has a better trick than Jaybeece's dog. I taught her to find, dig up and kill crickets on command . Very handy trick

Perfect Recall Training Using Ecollar
BrunoBella replied to BrunoBella's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I decided my goal was to have the dogs trustworthy off lead in any situation and to leave the collar on even when they no longer need it. To fit this scenario I put the collar on and use it straight away. I leave it on most of daylight hours if I'm training twice a day. Today it has not been on at all..... more rain. Do you use an ecollar as well? -
How Would You Stop This Behaviour?
BrunoBella replied to skip's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Where to start Leadership Leadership Leadership Leadership Leadership Leadership Leadership Leadership Discipline Discipline Discipline Discipline Discipline Discipline Discipline Discipline Discipline Discipline What more can I say. This dog is way too big to be king. The owner needs to be king. As he's already going to a behaviourist they should pick this up. Your friend needs a very big dog education. -

I work as a contractor too so I know how you feel. It may still work if you do it now when you are home...... -
Curing A Nuisance Barker
BrunoBella replied to ruthless's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
This is definitely a temporary step. I knew I'd have to leave my dogs in the pen for a whole day and that they weren't used to this. I put them in for half an hour or an hour a day and occassionally for four hours so they got used to it. Because I was still there I could work on their staying quiet in the pen. The rest of the time they can come inside as well. It might only take a few weeks for them to learn to be quiet in your run. I know this sounds cruel but you are teaching the dogs to be independent which is what they need to be to be happy. I don't know if this will work on your dogs but it did help heaps with mine. -
Young Dog Flopping Between Feet Constantly
BrunoBella replied to Jett's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
How funny but painfull. If moving away doesn't work, I go inside/outside (depending on where I started ) and slam the door. Leaving Mr floppyn the other side of the door will prevent him from flopping between your feet . You need some acting skills so that the dog gets a clear picture of you turning away and leaving him. This should help the behaviour. Other thing to try is to teach the Back command. Call "Back" while you are gently walking into the dog and get them to move back a few metres. Stay calm at all times. Reward good behaviour. The back command is usefull for keeding dogs off little kids and stopping jumping as well. Let us know how you go.. -

One thing you could try for improving choppers aloneness skills is to spend less time with him yourself when you're at home. I do this with my two whenever I have to go away for a while and it works really well. Sorta like getting them used to being alone without you being gone. You could then also pull him up for barking if you're here. BP -
Prey Drive Control & Focus..
BrunoBella replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Here's a funny link on Drive training.... Ouch -
Very good diarrhoea detection lablover . I know more about dog poo than I ever wanted to know . I often use my dogs as drums by banging on their sides. They love it and it makes a fantastic noise I've been to the vet every two weeks for two months now. This morning it was Miss Bella with a secondary infection from her contact allergy. More antibiotics again. This morning, Bruno laid his head on my knees and gave me a huge smile. I thought, this must be the happiest dog in the world. He doesn't take anything too seriously and enjoys every moment. Bella is nearly as happy but worries more! People and dogs are sometimes similar.

Prey Drive Control & Focus..
BrunoBella replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Drive trianing is hard work. We used to have a topic about all the cuts and bruises people got when starting as you have to rev the dog up. You will soon be covered in bruises and scratches as well as being exhausted. Good luck -
Perfect Recall Training Using Ecollar
BrunoBella replied to BrunoBella's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Will do. K9 said to introduce it after proofing at all distraction levels. So not today!!! We're going along very well. Adding in new levels of distraction with very few problems. I think it helps that I know exactly what will distract my dogs the most . Back to my vino...... -

I am much better on voice than clicking . I agree I was expecting all clicker trainer to be purely positive only cause that's the only ones I've seen. Fortunately, Kavik knew the correct answer. Happy clicking and Happy ecollaring -
Perfect Recall Training Using Ecollar
BrunoBella replied to BrunoBella's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Have been trying to keep this topic nasty free with some success Some people just don't want to listen or to change their mind. I am happy to see your ecollar abused, birddogs romping off leash in the bush . That's what I want for mine. Thanks for the encouragement and success story working_setters (and pointers) . I'm a step ahead of you on the whistle to sit. My setup has a vibration pagers . I plan to use this to teach them to sit in place, drop in place (for granny's jumping out of the bush) and to recall. I will use different repeats on the pager. eta - typo -
I bought my 5 m lead from K9 Force and my 10m from the saddlery shop. BP

Perfect Recall Training Using Ecollar
BrunoBella replied to BrunoBella's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9: having reater confidence & control over your dogs will also elevate your position in the pack & dogs will be happier being led rather than hunting (leash pulling).. K9: This method I have given you keeps the dogs mind in a place of concentration, rather than going over the top or being demotivated. This means that most of the time you spend training will yield results... rather than some methods that mean the dog will become disinterested & you end up talking to yourself.. So thats the reason it is so fast. K9: the low level of stim I have you using draws very little from the collar, so it will last quite a bit before requiring a charge. I personally hook mine to the charger as soon as the indicator drops one bar... **************************** K9: I am a professional dog trainer not a professional DOL poster... I stand by what I posted though, it did very much seem like you were raining on the parade of others... Thanks for the info steve. I always wanted to be leader of the pack. I have been charging my units every three days for something to do. Haven't managed to get below one bar yet K9: I am a professional dog trainer not a professional DOL poster... I hope no one here is a professional DOL poster! BellasPerson -

Triangle of Temptation - TOT - is pinned at the top of the training forum. NILIF - nothing in life is free will also have a topic here somewhere. I use both of these and started Bruno when he was 8 weeks old. Fantastic results Good to see you haven't lost your sense of humour despite receiving a beating..... BP
