My house is tiny and my dogs are big so mine are crated on the deck with covers over them. They rarely bark in their crates outside. Mine are generally in the house from 7ish to bedtime and then moved into their crates. They only bark very occassionally after 7 pm and certainly not at other dogs. Bella used to bark at other dogs during the day and I have been training her out of that successfully using a recall , I call her to come, make her sit and give her a treat every time she barks. She now only does single barks at people walking past and none at the neighbours new barky dogs. Sometimes when she has barked she runs inside and sits for a treat . I use an ecollar but if your dog will recall you wont need one of those. Good luck

Mr Bruno started doing this too the last few months. I will try the table as well. I just hang on and cut his nails with him growling and mouthing. Hope the neighbours aren't watching. I also had success with tying him to my waist with a lead and picking up and touching his foot all evening. He soon got sick of fighting me. ;) Agree with doggrooma, persistence and confidence helps.

I hope Bella picks up soon or they figure out what's wrong . Good luck

How To Stop My Dog Reacting To A Little Dog
BrunoBella replied to BrunoBella's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have been working on bellas barking and we are now down to her barking at one person who goes past at 6.30 am the rest she now ignores. I have been recalling her and giving her a treat to stop her from barking and it has worked -
Fantastic work shelleybeggs I use a similar technique on my gsps but they're nowhere near as excitable as kelpies

Nappy Rash Without The Nappies
BrunoBella replied to Caesars mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Is it inside her ears as well? My two have both had contact allergy from a plant. It made their ears red inside as well. If she hasn't had it before I would take her to the vet for diagnosis. Also, if you do a search on contact allergy you'll see that you're not alone and there is some great advice I got earlier. Hope it clears up and your furniture survives We all walk in the rain -

Contact Allergy Clears From Sea Water
BrunoBella replied to BrunoBella's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Fantastic news I hoped it wasn't a coincidence. My two will swim summer and winter so I'll take them down once a week and we won't need to worry about rashes and steroids. -
My dogs have had contact allergy for three to four weeks, very severe at first and then slowly clearing up. I took both dogs swimming in the ocean, rinsed them with fresh water and the next morning the remaining spots and bellas red eyes had disappeared. Anyone had anything similar? Is salt water a cure or did it just clear up on the same day?

Hills Science Diet - Eagle Pack
BrunoBella replied to Sticks1977's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thread hijack is over. I found an earlier thread and am switching my two to EP Holistic Lamb and Rice as soon as I've used up my Bonnie. The feeding instructions say 250 gms of Eagle Pack versus 500 gms of Bonnie. This only adds $2 per week per dog to our grocery bill -

Perfect Recall Training Using Ecollar
BrunoBella replied to BrunoBella's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Go on. You know you want to... -
My dogs used to misbehave after they'd been away, not because they've misssed me but because they were allowed to while away. Takes about a week to get them back to normal. becks is right, they hit the testing phase around now. Make sure you are super-consistent with the rules and you will come out of this fine. I don't use a clicker but someone else can never time the click the same way as you would. Now you will probably have to retrain again. The joys of dog ownership ;) IMO you can't expect your dogs training to progress while you're away as no one else knows your dogs like you do. You can only hope it doesn't go too far backwards. Don't worry.

A very beautifull staffy ;) You're absolutely correct about ignore her crying but life will be easier if you bring her closer to where you are. Most people start their pups in a crate in their rooms for about a week until the worst of the crying is over. The crate prevents toilet accidents in your room. If you don't have a crate, then how about a box/puppy pen or something to stop her wandering around and peeing on your floor. Staffy's like to be with people so you will have to give up a bit of sleep for a while. Have fun BP

Perfect Recall Training Using Ecollar
BrunoBella replied to BrunoBella's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
That's a secret LL . I have very good neighbours who love my dogs but one person who walks past and reports me for dogs barking and squealing - unsigned note and report to council. My problems I am fixing: 1. My goal was to get my dogs to be able to go offlead in their high distraction areas - birds, possums, birds - etc. - This is now nearly there. Working on proofing now. 2. I couldn't recall them in less than 15 mins at home if they were running crazily around the backyard chasing birds or possums - this is also now fixed. 3. Bella was barking at a few passing people and dogs that she didn't like. I now have her down to a single bark 99% of the time and most of that was already done before my ecollar arrived. I'm working on recall, sit at a distance and send away on the ecollar. Have also been changing my consistency from my normal 80% to 98% to assist with my program. Does that answer your question LL? -
It is very frustrating, I agree. I now use an ecollar on my dogs to improve their recall. You can use this to correct bad behaviour as well. Ask K9 Force if you want to know if this would help with your kelpie. He sold me the ecollar and the training manual. I used it today to get bella to stop hunting flies in my kitchen
-
That's what I was told about my GSPs too . Not very encouraging. Bruno jumped on my back as well . If getting her to sit doesn't help I would try a few corrections. Things I have used successfully are water squirters, saying "no" or "ah ah" in a low voice. Blocking with my knee. Withholding attention. Also, grabbing the dog by the collar and holding them still while growling loudly helps. Have you tried any of these? BP
-
IMO tying a rag around the dogs neck can be dangerous - they could injure themselves very easily. Remember that dogs do not think like people. They don't know that clothes are valuable and that taking them off the line is bad. You have to think like a dog to fix dog behaviour. Correcting a dog after the fact does not help. They will not understand what you are correcting them for. You need to catch them in the act or keep them away from the area if you're not there :D
