  1. Helen. I am happy to discuss other methods but your initial post made it seen that ecollars were an end of the line choice. As I said earlier I chose this for a very good reason to enable me to train skills the dogs already knew under hight distraction. Does your clicker training work under high distraction and, if so, how did you achieve this? BP
  2. BP ...... I think I reeeeeaaally need to see a copy of that. Any chance of getting a copy from you? Please email me (PM Box is full and need to be selective about which PMs I keep ..... haven't got the time to go through all that just now) to let me know. Would be most appreciated and happy to fix up for disc cost and postage etc. Cheers! Erny I just have to work out how to get it off my foxter IQ box. If possible, will PM you. BP
  3. Come on. Be nice. She did a fantastic demo of her new innovative Sit which, wait for it, you don't say Good Boy ----- you say Good Siiiiit.....~~~~with voice moving in wavy patterns~~~~
  4. Bruno has recovered from his allergy but Bella has started losing hair on her ears this morning. I rang the vet and he said it was part of the allergy process and not the steroids. I am now putting hydrocortisone/antibiotic cream on it that they gave me for backup. Thought I would post this in case anyone else with allergies this week - lots of people - know what this symptom is from. I hate allergies
  5. This is exactly what I found with Bella. Using positive training only she was totally stressed all the time but using a little appropriate correction she is no longer stressed.
  6. No bargains for me unfortunately. They are indeed a great deal more than $50. You'll have to save hard for a while. I have a two dogtra two dog version which is even more expensive. I think of it as a christmas present for me and the dogs Bruno got his recall this evening :p
  7. Minus the e-collar, same was said for Victoria Stillwell and any other trainer, on previous threads, who's been brave enough (or fortunate enough) to score their own TV show. There are always the critics. Like him or hate him, his name is out there and most of the world knows of him. As for those who try his methods and end upt getting hurt, then they have ignored the warnings on the show and whatever happens is their fault entirely. I see the same warnings on those reality shows that depict motorcycle stunts and eating worms etc. :p Just my 20c worth. Thanks Kelpie-i. That's worth at least 30c even though you quoted me out of context :p BP
  8. Today's update, Bella is up to the Sit at a Distance (SAAD) on no distraction. Bruno is still on the recall cause he has to come to my left side and we usually walk with him on the right. He's getting a bit confused, poor boy. Should have him up and running by tomorrow. BP --eta --poor spelling
  9. Sorry, but the sentence in your post that read 'if anyone else is doing something similar feel free to post here as well' was misinterpreted by me too in that case. I interpreted that to mean 'is anyone teaching anything using a new or otherwise training tool' I didn't realise you only wanted 'ecollar' related things. Not that I would dare post an opinion about anything after the flack that helen received. It is way too easy to misinterpret remarks on forums - remember what is in your mind is not always how the reader sees it. Why is it such a sin that someone has achieved results without using an e collar and why does that person deserve remarks such as were made - remember it is only YOUR interpretation that sees it as 'oneupmanship' or whatever it was called. Why can't it just be politely said, 'sorry, this thread is about ecollar training only.' and then just leave it at that? Hopefully there is room for all opinions and training approaches on this forum. Or have I got that wrong too? I'm sorry you felt I was being rude. I was trying to be polite before my first coffee of the morning :p I have nothing to do with the remarks about one upmanship. That happened whilst I was sleeping in. The responses to helens post are part of an ongoing argument between Helen and K9 Force which I have witnessed before. I am staying out of that one altogether. ---eta--- Helens responses are clearly talking to K9 Force and not to me.
  10. Human training is very hard :p I can teach kids from 4 to help with the dogs but 2 is too small. I do teach kids under 4 to make the dogs sit over a doggy/baby gate but no kid under 14 gets left alone with my dogs. I think it would be fine for the humans to use down or aahha as long as they all were asking the dog to do the same thing. Have fun training your humans and your dog :p
  11. Hi Lolly You can't pick and choose who the dog will jump on, this is too confusing. You have to stop him from jumping on anybody. You should not allow your dog to jump on a two year old child. Hold the child in your arms and/or remove the dog until the jumping is sorted out. Leaving a 2 yo on the floor with a jumpy dog is asking for trouble. To solve the problem I would introduce a "space" around people, particularly little kids. A space stops the dog from jumping because it cant' get close enough to jump. To create a space walk toward the dog and say "Back". Use your body to back him away. When he is two metres or so away, reward him. My dogs learned this very quickly. The other things you can do is, turn your back on the dog until it calms down; remove the dog from the room/crate the dog if it jumps; get the dog to sit whenever it tries to jump. Your down strategy is a good start. Make sure you are only rewarding your dog when it is calm and not just for completing the down command. Good luck with your training :p BellasPerson
  12. On a show a few weeks ago he used an ecollar to stop a acd jumping on moving tractor wheels. This also appeared to have been done in 20 minutes. He does discuss training regime with his clients but not with his viewers so I presume you can buy them from his website. BP
  13. And she has developed a new, innovative training program which is exactly the same as I learned in puppy school . All those other trainers must have stolen her program.
  14. I've never tried one caro but there was a recent topic discussing this. Previous topic on antibark collars Hope you get it sorted out .
  15. Lovely breeder... I had not thought about keeping a diary. Will start one today. Fantastic how easily this all transfers to good behaviour without a collar in sight
  16. Helen I don't use a clicker but I can also teach my bella on the mat and the recall without a clicker That's not the point of this discussion, I am not teaching skills, I am training and proofing under hight distraction. I haven't resorted to an ecollar, I have carefully selected this as the best tool for myself and my dogs. I made it clear in the topic that this is about training using the ecollar so I would prefer you to start your own topic on your success with the clicker so this topic doesn't get too messy. Good luck BP eta- missing sentence
  17. Thanks for the reminder Poodle wrangler. The OS prices are tempting but a no go. Have to buy them in Australia as K9 says.
  18. Before you get started you can get a 6-10m lead and improve your dogs recall as I did. I would start with the dogs fairly close (on their long lead), call them and if they didn't come, reel them in. If they did come, praise and reward them. Start in your own backyard. Once they come nearly all the time. Increase the distance. Keep doing this lots of times. You can also drop the lead cause you can easily step on it to get them back. Once you have some distance try it outside your yard. Have fun BellasPerson
  19. Steve has accomodation listed on his web site. I stayed at the Cabins - can't remember the name - and the dogs were allowed inside. The accomodation was really nice and I got to build a log fire. I think the drive from Brissie would be about 10 hours as the training area is on the NW border of sydney.
  20. That's not a drive . I did from Canberra Well worth the trip and he does indeed know how to fix fear agression. Have fun Bellasperson
  21. I watch his show as well as I watch anything dog related. I think it's really good to show some basics of interacting with and walking dogs. I ignore the dominance rolls, the "mouthing" with your hand and the no praise. I normally let my two walk wherever they want as long as they don't pull on the lead. I also need to walk them beside me when we walk past people or on the bike path and so I borrowed cesar's walk for that. This is the only time I use his walking techniques. He did show me that my tiniming on the martingale was off and I was rewarding too early. In summary, I think it is a good show for learning some skills as long as you realise this is not all your dog needs to know and ignore the bits you don't agree with. Cesar's handling of the pack is fantastic to watch. BellasPerson
  22. Cooked bones are dangerous as they can get sharp pieces and cut the dog. Check the mouth and throat for obvious injuries. I'm not sure if they can cut going through the gut. If they did you would notice cause the dog would get very sick very quickly. My two got cooked bones from the neighbour as well. No harm done with them. I just kept an eye on them and educated the neighbours about the dangers of cooked bones. He has now bought dog treats to give the dogs instead of bones . Hope all goes well BP
  23. Studebaker, I'm pretty sure it's quoted in a previous topic called Dog aggression/??? which is back a few pages. It's a long thread and I can't remember what page it was on. It did mention that a training organisation can also sign you off as ecollar friendly. Good luck.
