  1. I haven't seen any that don't resemble wolves- would be interesting to see yours.
  2. the most ever purebreds that I've seen altogether (apart from showing) are dogs that go to my obedience club. They outnumber the mutts something like 5:1 Interesting really ;)
  3. what about leaving the dog tied up outside a rescue with a sign around it's neck saying "cat killer" dumped- surrendered or both? They had no clue where the dog came from. that dog was clearly dumped yes it was. As are many others who are brought in- in person by their owners. I'd be inclined to believe genuine reasons would be a very low percentage(owner dying for instance).
  4. what about leaving the dog tied up outside a rescue with a sign around it's neck saying "cat killer" dumped- surrendered or both? They had no clue where the dog came from.
  5. Not a surrender- but a re-sale...husky 2yrs old. When asked reason for sale, was said because of ticks- long coat hard to find and no products worked. Yeah...right.
  6. I would have thought temperament would have fallen under the 'standard' category? Just out of curiosiyt- which breeds do you think could use 'a little tweaking'?
  7. yep, they were given that name to be more desirable as there were (obviously) negative connotations associated with the word "German"
  8. 100% Raw - can not tolerate commercial pet foods- got terrible skin allergies probably from all the additives, grains and fillers. Have fed raw for over a year and she's looks fantastic. :)
  9. In no particular order- 5 key things that my mum (as a reg breeder) has shown me that I admire and would follow if I ever did wish to breed. 1. Promotion other ways than ads- ie sport, showing ect 2. Breeding in line with the standard and not away from it 3. Genuine interest & love of the breed/s of choice 4. Health Testing for genetic issues or possible problems 5. Available to offer assistance to puppy buyers when needed and when appropriate
  10. yep, her pet name is Fenrir (pronounced Fen-rare) but the kids and the other half had taken to call her "Fen-Rah" so it kinda stuck so now she gets called Rah-Rah & Dograh.
  11. This is how I see it too- but I'd have added in health testing (not sure if that's what you meant by healthy) :)
  12. Not so lucky- admin always removes my posts (and others) it's like they're favouring byb's- maybe they are some themselves?
  13. The Irish Setters we used to have had terrific webbed feet- as opposed to the GSD I now keep.
  14. I was told yes they had membership with dogsQLD. It's very easy to once you find these forums to sit back and say, oh well didn't check this or that or should have known from XYZ. But most of us Jo Publics that want healthy pets don't visit this forum or ones like it. because we don't know that we should research the "breeder" to the same extent as the dog. Did you ring Dogs Queensland after your dogs pedigree papers never arrived? - if not, then DQ can not act- or even know if they were registered members.
  15. thank you, yes I saw the parents papers or papers I believed to be for the parents it wasn't until she'd been here awhile that we started thinking, she wasn't purebred (vet confirmed this down the track) but by then she was our dog and we loved her regardless. No nothing arrived when I tried to check with the breeder in case they sort of got"lost in the mail" they didn't respond to calls / texts / emails. even drove there once but no one answered the door. Yes, but did you ring Dogs Queensland and ask if these people were current members. Did you ask to see their current membership card ?. Did you go to dog shows and speak to other breeders to ascertain that these people were regular breeders ?. The general public often have no clue about these sorts of things until after they've been jibbed.
  16. keep him on a leash when you visit? simple really.
  17. They only have one dog (female). Are they going to say to Joe Blow down the road can you please get your dog health tested??? I think you'll find that most joe blows know diddly squat when it comes down to dog husbandry- why can't the op ask if they're going to heath test the dogs- afterall we all had to learn somewhere- who knows, they may even change their minds?
  18. I doubt the people breeding the cattle dog/x care where the pups will end up- most of the time these sorts are only thinking of the money and having that famous 'one litter'.. Ask them if they're going to health test their dogs before joining them together- may make them realize there's more to it than just hoping for the best?
  19. because it's called redirected aggression- it can happen The post people are replying to, makes no mention of redirected aggression. They said, what if a small child was running ahead of it's parents, no mention of another dog. This type of stupid comment, is what gets peoples upset. My bad- yeah, unlikely in that event- I meant redirected onto the handler (child or not)
