We rang up several "breeders" that listed in the paper, only to discover that they were BYBs...ummm- No thanks. You'll often see in the paper (here) *breed*x*breed* looking for a mate. Usually they'll also write "doesn't matter what breed, must have a good temperament". Another one- My ex has a Husky X. He met a girl one night with a PB Husky. He asked if hers was desexed (it was thank god) He said that he was disappointed that he couldn't make cute puppies. He told me this and I said that it was fantastic that she was responsible enough to get her dog desexed! (I had to walk away) We (well I lol) spent a long time searching for the right breeder, and the right pup. We have her :D

At What Age Can I Start Duke On A Raw Diet?
WExtremeG replied to Bear&Duke's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I just googled the Barf percentages fed to puppies and they quote up to 10%. When they grow into adults, 2% is the go. Is your puppy lean. The beauty of the raw diet is that for larger breeds, they grow more slowly and evenly, which is not a bad thing. Thats' 2% of her expected ADULT bodyweight, not 2% of her actual weight. Puppies are constantly growing...it's much more common and easier to feed her this way. -
At What Age Can I Start Duke On A Raw Diet?

We feed 2% of our puppy's expected body weight of a healthy adult. She's a GSD and she gets about 600-700 gms a day. Hope this helps -
Agree with this post. Never ignore a dog that is watching yours, stalking you or following you from a distance - that is the time to confront them. If you do wait until they're close, they are at a much higher level and you will have to do a lot more to get them to notice you (or anything for that matter other than their target). I don't walk away from dogs that are off-lead and focused on mine, because you can't out run them so you need to turn around and confront them. So sorry about what happened to your pup though Completely unacceptable. There was only time to run in front of the dog and yell at it while trying to catch/stop it before it came in contact with our pup- it bolted right through my hands and even as it was latched on, it was extremely hard to get a grip of it as it was powerfully built with a short coat that you couldn't grab. Dogs like that you can't stop especially if they're intent on getting what they want.

Yeah, that's what got me too. What if his owners were looking for him ?- they'd never have a hope of finding him in someones backyard.

I'm sure figure 3 shows a SBT head and not a 'pitbull' head.

Update: I called the council this morning as I wanted to be sure that the people who claimed they had found the animal had in fact rang the council pound like they were claiming to do (after the attack)- they had. I got a call back from them (the council) a little over an hour later with someone different than to who I had spoken earlier. The ranger informed me that they had picked up the dog and it would most likely be destroyed as it had shown aggression to the rangers as well as to other dogs at the pound. He also went on to say that the people who had found it, found it over a month ago, and that they were likely wanting to keep it as they hadn't notified the pound before yesterday. The rangers are classing it as their dog as one month is "pretty much claiming responsibility for the animal". Thanks for all your support Our pup's tough...we will get through this. Next time will walk with boots on.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, she's okay. A few superficial puncture marks on her hind legs that hopefully won't take long to heal. I don't know what it is, but it seems like every time there is a dog loose it has to rush over and start attacking her- I don't trust any loose dog! The dog that attacked her today was apparently a stray, they (the people who found it) were trying to locate the owner but were keeping it at their place until then. Anyway we (my son, daughter, OH and I) were walking down the road and I saw this dog behind a gate with some kids who were coming out. I said to my OH "now that's a dog I wouldn't want loose" and you guessed it- the kids coming out weren't quick enough closing the gate and the dog came CHARGING FROM ACROSS THE ROAD straight for our dog. I jumped in front of it and yelled at it, but it ignored me and latched on. My poor daughter who was walking the pup at the time was trying to pull our dog away as I tried to pull off the dog as it had gotten our dogs leg in it's mouth. Of course there was a lot of commotion and the people who had claimed they found the dog were over to help. The woman explained and said that she'd call the pound to come and get it as she wasn't expecting the dog to be so aggressive (I would've thought strange dog anything goes?)- so no we haven't reported it yet may not need to- hopefully they've done what they said they'd do.

If only they were little dogs (it'd be so much easier trying to hold them back)- they've all been the same size or bigger as well as being adults.

attacks my dog while mine is on a leash and they're not is going to cop a swift kick to the head. I'm sick of it. My dog is only 19 weeks old and obviously still a puppy. She has done nothing wrong to deserve being attacked by 3 separate dogs on 3 separate occasions, none of which were provoked in any way. It seems you can't take a dog for a walk anymore without some idiots' dogs running loose and finding it 'fun' to attack a baby. Sick, Sick, SICK OF IT!!!

Whoops! Just realized you're in NSW...*edit* they're the same colours anyway.

Yep, in VIC Main register papers are blue (as the PP mentioned) and limited register papers are orange. I agree with looking up the breed standard and attending some shows before you show.

Interesting. Thankyou.

I've just seen this (must of been typing at the same time) I'll read up on these cheers. She's a GSD.

Oh okay- I wonder why that is? If we were to give Dimitrol would we start at her next date that the monthly would have been due or straight away? Thanks

Hi, thanks for your reply. We'd like a monthly Heart-worm tablet as it seems like it would be less 'overkill' and the easiest to remember. I've heard horror stories regarding the yearly vaccination (and she had a reaction to her last vax) so I'm quite wary of it!

Hi, Since having our puppy home she's been treated twice (monthly) for Heart-worm. The first tablet was a promotional one and was free from the vet, the second was bought but it also did other intestinal worms. Since our breeder uses Drontal quarterly, I am wanting to keep using it, however would like to know of a Heart-worm medication that only kills Heart-worm and not everything else. Any recommendations?

I'd be looking here- http://www.dogzonlin...ull-terrier.asp Thanks, they're aware of that list but as the other posters above said it doesn't make them ethical breeders just because they're registered. A personal recommendation from people in the know is always best. I agree. -

It's a start- better than IMO looking in the local paper or a place online like gumtree. At least you can surf through these and ring up the best(whatever it is you like) sounding ones.
