Our Vet is just down the road. I am considering building a 'mono-rail' or a 'flying fox' and just sending her down there on her own every other day or she could learn to use them herself. May even get her a mobile phone so she can make her own appointments? A credit card would probably be handy too.

She is on the mend Just1more. Still limping a bit but slowly improving. She does seem to like the Vet, so maybe we have a dog who has worked out to act sick so she can go to the vet and get pampered by the nurses.

We have a 6.5 month old Staffy girl. She is going great and has learnt a lot, although she is a bit stubborn on when she chooses to obey??? Our biggest issue at the moment is that she is just so friendly, that she gets really excited and cant stop herself from wanting to say hello to everyone and any dog. We always have her on the lead at the moment (unless in total isolation) but this excitement is hard to stop. I presume time is the only solution here, when she realizes that people and other dogs are just a normal part of life. She gets out to all sorts of places all the time. Pretty much comes everywhere with us except work.

She is all good now in regard to the lumps and the anti histamine worked. But now she is limping badly following hurting her paw last night. Not sure what it is, but I am sure she will recover. She seems to be having one little drama after another at the moment. A bit of bad luck I hope.

Sorry didnt attach. Here she is.

Our girl at about 9 weeks but now 6 months old.

My belief is that it is the nature of a puppy. They are young and energetic and have lots of power naps and sleeps, but when they are awake and ready for action that is just the way it is. They dont need long sleeps. As they get older they sleep a little less during the day, use more enegy and then sleep more through the night. At the moment though, at nine weeks, what you are experiencing is just a normal puppy wanting some fun and attention. They dont care about the time like we do. Their clock is biological only.

The Vet confirmed it would have been a bee-sting and then I found, what was most likely the offender in the backyard on the paving (one dead bee!). She is all good now and 100% back to normal afetr a shot of a anti-histamine. We also ot some Phenergan for any future episodes as it is possible it could effect her breathing, which would be bad. A good outcome and very relieved.

Thanks Just1more. That is exactly what our little girl looked like? Probably more lumps but smaller. I think a bite is what it was then as she was also chewing at her hind leg? Must have been the spot. Thanks for your time with this post.

She is a white pied SBT. Mostly white. They can be very fine coated but lumps all over the body suggest more than a contact allergy. See what the vet says. The only other circumstance which may have influenced this, was that it was a very hot and muggy day in Perth also. She doesnt cope well with the heat. But we also gave her a couple of chicken wings in the morning and then I caught her chewing on the remains of one that evening before dinner. This bit of raw chicken was outside in the heat all day. Not sure of this could have been an issue?

Hi all, Our little 6 month old SBT girl Shanti is at the Vet as we speak, as she came up with lumps all over her body that could be compared to hives. They came up very quickly last night and still there this morning. I am hoping the Vet will provide some answers, but I thought I may post the issue and see if anyone else has experienced the same with their dog/puppy? She is a little grass sensitive it seems and also we only just changed her dinner to BARF the night before, but not sure if this could be the cause or just coincidence? Other than the spots and a little irritation she seemed to behave very normal. Could a bite cause this or any other allergy that people are aware of? Thanks Eamonn

My opinion is that desexing getting done at the earliest possible time is best and 6 months is perfect. The puppy hasnt experienced sexual desires so it is something that wont be missed. In my experience and form what I have read, it seems to be a myth that desexing calms down a dog. I have not seen this at all in any dog I have had desexed. I have had my girl (staffy) done only this week at 5.5 months and although we are comparing a girl to a boy, nothing has changed. Two days later, once the collar(bucket) was removed the ZOOMIES started up again.

Try these: http://www.boomerangtags.com/collartags.php They don't scratch, last forever and are not expensive. Postage to Australia is $2 and normally takes about 10 days. Now thats a better idea. Not having another dangling dog tag to add to the collection of registration and microchip tag. Thanks for the link.

I agree and have noticed this with my little girl too. There quite often isnt an immediate fix (ie not a one day fix) but consistency and time does get results. Shanti would jump and charge our back flyscreens for attention or to be let in. We totally ignored this behaviour every time. After 6 weeks or so she has stopped doing this and I cant remmeber the last time she did. She now just sits at the glass doors looking in and waiting. We were trying to teach her not to come in the kitchen and every time got her to sit on the mats at the entry to the kitchen. Patience, persisitnce and "rewards" has now made her very good at staying out of the kitchen. This is teh same with a lot of things we are training. It appears at the time they are not really learning and then 'bag' the penny drops and their behaviour has changed. I am constantly surprised at this. So in my experienc ethe chnage isnt absolutely immediate but it will happen with persistence. The hardest thing we are trying to train now is recall on command. She is a bit stubborn and quite often will only come when she wants. Takes after her human Dad I think (ie me!) Maybe I should lead by example.

Hi NOCTRL, What is the exact age of your boy and what does he weigh? Cheers He is 21 weeks (or maybe closer to 22). He weighs 14kg, which is on the bigger size for his age, but dad was super stocky too. How old / big is your girl? Shanti is exactly the same age and weighs 11.3kgs. Do we have the same Mum & Dad? She is a cutey Gussysmum and she knows how to use it??

Heres is a pic of our 5 month old Staffy. She is a pretty little girl but quite different to the one on this thread. I go with GSD cross also.

My little girl has a lump on its tummy and it was noticed by the Vet at 12 weeks. The Vet has diagnosed it as a Hernia. He said we will wait until she is de-sexed to have it removed as it is no concern. Shanti "our little Buddha" staffy is having both operations this coming Monday. Very routine. This may be the problem with your puppy?

My Wife has started brushing her teeth and using a doggy toothpaste. This is both helpful and very amusing. I thought it was a crazy idea and that our little pup, Shanti would not allow it....but to my surprise she quite likes it. I have asked my Wife when is she going to start flossing her teeth also, as the dentist always recomends this?? Still waiting on the response?

This topic amused me and is very coincidental, as I was going to ask exactly the same thing. My pupp is teething and we have found two of her little teeth. She has blood and holes and I feel for her. But her breathe is very stinky and fish is definately the smell. I was hoping that this was because of her teething and was not going to be permanent. It seems this thread has answered my question which is good.

She is getting good nutrition in what we feed. The fruit is mainly becasue she likes it (nice and sweet), it is some extra KJ's for growth and still will have some nutritional value. If she continues to eat what we give her, I and she will be happy little campers!
-
She ate everything this morning I just heard also...which is fantastico. The change in routine may be the trick. Is that a little Staffy too NOCTRL that you have?
-
I am pleased to annoiunce that our little girl ate very well last night after a change in routine. Instead of me coming home, taking her for a walk and tehn feeding her straight away, we waited until my Wife had played with her also an dthen let her calm donw and relax for an hour or so. We then fed her and she ate it all up. We then gave her some fruit later before bed which she ate all up too. We were changing the morning routine the same and going to feed her a while after her morning walk when she has calmed down and spent time with us. I dont know how she went as yet as I left home before feeding time. It appears that it is not ill health causing the lack of appetitie which is peace of mind and it is just her choosing not to eat. Thanks for everyones advice.

This problem is continueing, so a chat to the vet may be needed. She is hardly eating anything the last few days but is still energetic. She just shows little interest in food and has lost 200 grams in the last five days, when at four months she should be packing on the weight. It is a worry, but she does look very happy amd healthy other than not eating. We give her food but all she is interested in, is being around us and being part of whatever we are doing.
