  1. Just found this thread and so happy I have :-) I've started seeing a delta trainer for my beautiful girl who is dog aggressive on lead .. We have come a long way just her and I but I am hoping we can progress even further .. I walk at the crack of dawn and very late at night just so we can walk in peace :-) Looking forward to reading this thread as sometimes I could cry after running into owners with dogs not in control that make our walking experience hellish :-(
  2. Hey guys I got a delta trainer to help me with dog aggression on lead .. And as we were chatting about my training I mentioned that when we are out walking ( I have 2 Airedales male and female , I walk them seperately ) I have them in heel beside me . When I come to places in our walk that are grassy / safe I say their release word (free ) and they instantly can sniff, wee , whatever . They are on lead ,I have a longish lead I let go a bit so it's longer for this .. She couldn't understand why I would let them do this .. They know exactly what that word means they are in heel position always until I give them this release word . I use this word when we get back from our walk they sit then I take their walking gear off and they don't move till I say free then off he race round the yard lol funny kids .. Anyway what's wrong with doing that ? She really thought it was odd ..
  3. We have friends that have a fat Labrador he is actually obese poor thing can hardly walk and they always comment about my guys being sooo skinny ! I just say my guys are their ideal weight, lean and beautiful ... I've had the fat talk but they don't want to know but still go on about my guys being skinny.. I find it quite odd..
  4. What about seeing your local member and having a town meeting ? Maybe more people are having issues with roaming dogs.. People can be pretty thick sometimes the offenders have prob not thought their dogs could or would hurt anything whilst roaming the streets ,,?? Just a thought :-)
  5. Is that a Schnauzer ? I said no they are Airedales . Oh they are crossed with a poodle right ? Um NO!! Lol
  6. Rogue likes cuddles and to just be near you , Saachi likes to be on you , she would crawl I side you if she could :-) both love being apart of the family unit .
  7. Dogs are allowed on our school grounds but is a private school if that makes a difference . I know state shools gave a sign out the front that tells you .. I take mine if I have a day off , he is an Airedale so not so little lol.
  8. Just an example of a dogs reaction reaking abuse but never being abused ... My beautiful boy Rogue , as a pup my partner accidentky let the end of his lead flick down and tapped rogue on his side .. After that and to this day ( he is almost 2) rogue drops to the ground as if he has been belted if either his lead or someone else's lead that they are holding hangs down , swings ,whatever .. I feel like I have explain to people that he rely has not been beaten .... Quite embarrassing when I see their faces !!
  9. I'm the same, I really hate walking mine alone I normally wait till hubby gets home . This Morning I had to walk both of them by myself and I have one reactive dog :-( she is getting better but some dogs seem to get her goung more than othets .. I went to an area I know is not busy in the mornings but its the people that walk theirs not on lead that freak me out .. I'm not letting it stop me walking my guys I just will walk them one at a time ( more exercise for me i guess lol ) if I have to do it alone and grow some balls I guess lol lol..
  10. I think I will have to bite the bullet and be fair to him and do my own research .. I would say he knows the ins and outs of it and he has watched quite a few working dog training videos with this .. Like every training tool it is In fact the person using it that determines wether it is inhumane or a good training tool .. I guess I have been focussing on the negative . If your husband has researched enough that he knows how to use it effectively as Negative Reinforcement (not Positive Punishment) on a low level he won't hurt the dogs :) It's a great, effective way to proof a rock solid recall, and won't harm the dog physically or psychologically. If he doesn't know how to use it then don't.
  11. I'm having this argument with my husband now . He bought this collar for our 2 as he wants to be able to walk them off lead through the bush and have them stay a certain distance near him . Having no real luck with their recall, not 100% and they are terriers so one sniff and they are off . For Me it's the thought of how it would affect them ,but I know he would never ever take it too far ,it just doesn't sit well with me ... Really struggling here as my heart says no and my head just doesn't know :-( we have had a few really big fights over it, he has researched it for hrs and I will admit I have not .. Probably too scared to maybe ... :-( I will read with interest this thread.
  12. Ah yes Robanne that what I was thinking I had read .thanks both of you for your replies :-)
  13. Hey guys I just have a question of small litters ie 1 or 2. Is the chance of complications higher In this situation? Sorry cant post in breeders thread as I'm not a breeder , the discussion has come up and I thought I read somewhere that complications are more common ..
  14. I would , what I'f next time he attacks or attacks another dog .. Owner needs to be more responsible ,this dog has made an advance towards your dog twice , that's one to many for my liking .. Did you get the feeling he would of harmed your dog if the owner hadn't called him back ? Can't hurt to report anyway , at least then the dog/owner has a file open on them so to speak .. Scary stuff I really worry about this happening in our walks :-(
  15. I take my guys to Springfield district vets they are great and you can board them overnight etc . They have an on call service incase of emergencies and top notch equipment .. Never had an issue getting an appointment ..
  16. Hi guys , we have 2 Airedale terriers Rogue who is 18mths and recently his mother of 6 yrs came to live with us. The transition was lovely we have had no real issues apart from rogues youth lol so much energy . Anyway they mouth each other and have a lovely time , rogue normally starts it . The other day Saachi was the instigater but I heard rogue gag and looked over and she was very gently squeezing his neck with her mouth. I said hey and she let go to look at me and he starting coughing and gagging. Was that her saying Oi enough or something more? Rogue does go over the top and sometimes I redirect him if I think he is getting too in your face. This time however it was all very gentle ,he didn't seem to be hypo, full on at all.. Just wondering if there was more to it .. Thanks..
  17. Thanks snook I just presumed they would give a warning snarl or some sound.. A dog doesn't have to be making any sound in order to be giving a warning and baring teeth should most definitely be considered as a warning unless you are told otherwise by a professional, in relation to a specific dog.
  18. If the dog was being aggressive wouldn't he be growling or making some sort of noise?? I know dogs that show teeth but they are definately not being aggressive..
  19. I thought you had to have documented incidents before it was claimed as a dangerous dog , not an incident in a dog park goodness ,,,, that is scary ..
