  1. What a beautiful story, so happy this ending is so posative and Emily is so very happy :-)
  2. I must admit when I approached my initial breeder I would not have even thought about any of this. I was passed onto another breeder that after 2 years we got our beautiful boy ( first litter was small) I kept up email contact during that time and but I guess I was an easy buyer :-) I just went with the flow and had a wonderful connection with my breeder so I waited. My Oh was more taken back than me about the breeder choosing a puppy to match our family, he is so impressed with the end result as Rogue is a perfect fit. I think one of the problems new puppy buyers find is that we have a lot of books out there that tell people what to do when they "are choosing a puppy from a breeder" that give you this impression that it is your choice, so I can understand people going in with this idea, I know I had information overload :-) Good post though, I hope new puppy buyers read it with an open mind :-)
  3. Oh dear I have tears in my eyes, bit about the kids got me :-)
  4. Ceeshell, Rogue has had no other socialisation in regard to dogs but he was a delight at puppyschool.. We are really looking forward to his next vaccination so we can venture out a little and meet some dogs :-) No pics yet as we're still waiting on confirmation on which boy is ours. As soon as I know you'll all hear about it, I promise! Any advice on when to start puppy preschool? Should I just get right on it at 8.5 weeks? Well my puppy school of choice pretty much made the decision for me. The next session starts when our pup will be 9 weeks. We also don't have any dogs in our immediate social circle (well, there is one, but he can be quite dominating of smaller dogs) so puppy preschool will mostly be about socialisation for us.
  5. We started at 8 weeks he was a bit scared I guess but came out at 11 weeks playing with the other pups ,we were the youngest all others were 14 -16 weeks.. Week 9 he was ok week 10 more relaxed and week 11 like I said so playful the best on in the group :-) We don't have any dogs in our extended family so this was his first introduction after leaving his littermates :-) No pics yet as we're still waiting on confirmation on which boy is ours. As soon as I know you'll all hear about it, I promise! Any advice on when to start puppy preschool? Should I just get right on it at 8.5 weeks?
  6. :-) Sorry what credentials do you have in order to comment on such behaviour? Five years professionally assessing dog behaviour through their body language. Working under a program written by a veterinary behaviourist. Doing this on a weekly basis. Training by a veterinary behaviourist in assessing canine non-verbal communication as well as training and mentor-ship from a behaviourist with doctorate in canine prey drive. Training volunteers in assessing and documenting canine non-verbal communication, supervising them and documenting the information. Over ten years as a a qualified obedience and agility instructor at an ANKC affiliated obedience club. So as you can see, my input about dog behaviour is considered valuable by many dog owners. I know a lot about canine non-verbal communication and possible interpretations of the behaviour. I also have a wealth of experience in seeing consequences of certain behaviours, having been responsible for the care and rehoming of a very large number of dogs. What are your credentials? I'm now very interested in hearing from those with better credentials than mine (and there are some members here) and getting their thoughts on whether the word "protective' is appropriate and how they interpret the behaviour of the dogs in the video.
  7. I give my boy meaty soup beef bones. I haven't seen nylabones I will have to look out for them..
  8. Telida I think there are many passionate people on here in regard to Bull breeds that they are quick to pounce, justified or not, I think they are just so used to defending their breed with so much negative talk about them in the media ( I am presuming here but what I have read in other threads that is what I have noticed) :-) With that said more photos please :-) Why thank you Aussie 3. I was only offended by being called 'dense' and a troll. I expect to be disagreed with.. we all have opinions and many times they differ. Again Stop calling me names and you may rest assured I won't be posting anything about APBTs ever again. Including their GOOD points. This experience has been educative to say the least.
  9. My heart goes out to you, what a terrible, traumatic thing to happen . Can I ask which beach ,as I am also from QLD..
  10. Yes it would be for me when mine gets bigger so I want to move onto my own mix ..
  11. Hey poodlemum, I have bought 2 of his books The BARF diet and The pup one, looking forward to them coming :-) .. I feed our boy Leading Raw Guide Dog approved patties mainly due to this is what the breeder had him on and it is convienent for me at this time and I'm a bit scared to go it alone lol.. Hoping after reading his books I will feel more confident :-) But I joined a yahoo group raw feeding puppies and bloody hell I got slammed for feeding patties and and got slammed for getting the books lol so I left the group ... Glad someone else has read his book and I am hoping to get a lot out of them :-)
  12. All I can say is ouch :-( hope his leg gets better soon..
  13. Lucky you woohoo, OH and I have decided when Rogue is 2 we might look at another Airedale about 12mths old if we can get one, I love the puppy phase but it is tiring :-)
  14. Sounds like you have described an English Bull Terrier. It's terrible what some people will do. Baiting dogs is as old as and a dispicable act. I remember hearing of people doing it back when I was a kid, but fortunately you don't hear of it as often, these days I would like to think people are bit more civilised....but then you hear of it and you know there are still those out there that are not (civilised). He had no clue why never had a bad word said about him from neighbours and he was a beautiful natured dog, he never got over his dogs death very , very sad.. English Bull terrier, I was close :-) lol..
  15. I just had to share Rogue at 11 weeks I am biased but I think he is delicious :D
  16. We had a friend that had a Roman nosed bull terrier ( I am sure the breed may have another name?? Proper name maybe :-) ) Anyway he loved this dog and even though I don't find the breed appealing he was a gentle giant and they had a wonderful bond. Anyway he came home to find someone had baited him and the agony this poor dog was in when he found him was dreadful.. The friend of ours was a mess and his mate died.. So very sad some people are dispicable..
  17. Ceeshell what breed is your puppy ? Lucky you only have a couple of weeks to wait :-)
  18. Sensible post. Good manners linked with caution when dealing with an 'unknown'. And it would apply to many other situations where you'd be intruding on someone else's space/ belongings. So I put 'good manners' first. Yesterday, when walking our 2 tibbies, I met a 6 yr old boy. He asked, 'Can I pat your dogs?' I answered, 'Would you like to make it a cuddle?' 'Yes, please!', he said. I told him to kneel down & open his arms a bit. Next thing he had a gentle armful of gold. I said to him, 'You were polite and careful. You deserve a big cuddle.' His mother, who'd supervised him, beamed. Mita that brought a tear to my eye, how beautiful was that encounter :-)..
  19. LMAO I told my OH the second box of clean run was just the stuff they left off the inital order LOL In the end he said when are these boxes for this pup going to stop coming lol lol I had stuff from eBay, books from amazon, and DVD's from some other places :-)
