Hi Tassie, Thanks for your lovely reply. My girl is a Lab and she is entire. She is coming into season every 4 - 4 and a half months which is very hard. I forgot to mention this. I am in the Melbourne area. I was doing a bit of private obedience earlier in the year and she was a lot better at that with only about 3 or 4 dogs to train with but my older girl was still alive then.

I have a 3 year old girl and have been doing obedience with her since she was 4 months old. We have not made a great lot of progress and have been stuck in the same class for nearly 2 years. I had another dog and lost her earlier in the year due to old age. I didnt rush out immediately to purchase a new pup as I thought I would put the time into my girl. She was recently in season and was sent away for a possible mating which didnt happen. She was away for about 10 days and the lady told me that she is a very nervous dog. I have never mistreated her in any way I have noticed at obedience that she gets fixations on other dogs from time to time and pulls over to them, which is not acceptable. she is a very strong girl. I have corrected her many times but she still persists in these bad habits. She has really gone backwards with the training, heels good but when she is asked to drop it is a battle and if I do get her down she pops back up again. Sit stays are worse, most of the time she follows me. There are dogs in the class who are much younger than her who are very good. I think this behaviour is coming from her anxiety. I put in a lot of time with her at home when I am there. I was out on the weekend where there was a few dogs and it was interesting to watch how she interacted with the other dogs, she would go to them and then basically come back and stand with me. One lady was nursing a small dog and was sitting next to me and she was looking at that dog and there was a little bit of trouble between them. The adults and some of the smaller dogs went into another area and she was left with the bigger dogs and she didnt like being separated from me at all and stood at the door and yapped. This is from the anxiety. It is unacceptable behaviour as far as I am concerned and I would have expected that a 3 year old woud be more relaxed. My uqestion is how am I going to deal with this problem. I think she is very jealous of other dogs and does not like them being around me. I would like to get another dog but would like to get her sorted out a bit better but unsure of what to do. Should I get someone to come over with their dog and get her to play with it and see how she goes. Thanks for your reply. I am not exactly sure what natural reading died you would call mine. She has rolled oats, honey, slippery elm and milk for beakfast and meat and vegetables like carrots and celery and kelp and a few other grains for dinner with vegetable oil. This is a pretty good diet. She is outside most days so would be getting a bit of sunshine.

I have a girl who is on the natural rearing diet. She recently went away for a couple of weeks and has come home more relaxed than she was. She is much calmer and she was given more of the commerial foods. I am thinking about doing a mix or perhaps introducting vitamin supplaments. I would be most interested to find out what other people are doing with the natural rearing diets. She is also coming in season every 4 months and was away for an attempted mating but it didnt work out and I will give it one more try next time and wonder if there is something natural that I can give her to help her with her hormones.

I have a girl who is just over 2 and a half and we have been doing obedience for over 2 years. We do a bit of off lead work, some weeks she is good and other weeks whe gets distracted by other dogs. She is fairly good but I have been having trouble with getting her to drop, she will drop if I give her food and if I try she plays up on me and kicks and nearly pulls me over. Even if I get her to drop she does not stay down there for very long at all. How am I going to break her out of this very bad habit. I am worried that she is getting too old and set in her ways now. She has not been desexed as she is pure bred. Anyone have any clues please.

Hi there, I have a 2 and a half year old girl and I had trouble about 18 months ago with a neighbour complaining about her backing, I did have an older dog who was put to sleep last week. My girl basically stays in the house because after I had trouble with the neighbour complaining about the barking I was advised to crate her up which I have done whilst I go to work if I go out. Since I lost my older girl last week the younger one is very reluctant to go outside and be a good girl first thing in the morning and if she is left outside for a period whilst I am at home she jumps up on the window. She does not bark. I would like to get her out in the yard whilst I am at work as that is healthier for her. I noticed a couple of days ago when I was out the front talking to someone that she started barking at me from inside the gate. She also barks if I am on the phone for too long. Could this be separation anxiety and how am I going to break her out of this. She is not quite 2 and a half. I have been doing obedience with her for just over 2 years.

I had taken her to a specialist vet last week and he quoted me $1000 for a CT scan and a few hundred dollars here and there for other tests and an operation costing $3300. I have been reading these posts and I am now apprrehensive about pet insurance. What is the Medicare one like and there is Woolworths? If I go this way I would like a good one.

I took her to my vet last night and she was put out of her pain although you would not have throught that she was in pain but the vet said that I had made the right decision. With the benefit of hindsight I should have asked the vet to get the sample he took in September when she had the tumours removed tested so that we knew which one we were dealing with. I learn from my visit to the specialist yesterday that there is 5 different types of mouth cancers that dogs can get. It would have been better to know back in September to know what we were dealing with. But she was really good with it up until a couple of weeks ago when the lump was starting to grow rapidly and bleed quite a lot. I am now also looking at pet insurance for my other girl just in case. I wish everyone the best and I will bollow the posts on here.

Hi Everyone. I was referred to the specialist place in Moorabbin today. The vet examined Tammie and gave me options. He said that the lump is very large and has spread, he could have operated but was not sure how she would come out of the operation and also he did not know whether it had spread anywhere else in her body. We also dont know what type we are dealing with as there is 5 different types of mouth cancer. The option he gave me was to do a CT scan of $1000 plus other tests and then the operation which cut out some of the bone but he was not sure how it would go due to the size of the lump etc. I have decided to have her put to sleep, although she seems generally happy, eats OK etc. but occasionally makes some strange noises and the vet felt that was probably something to do with her nose. He said I have made the right decision. I am taking her in a couple of hours. I could have kept her for a few more days but the lump is so big and she is constantly bleeding so it is not fair to keep an animal in that state just for my own selfish reasons. My heart is breaking right at the moment and my stomach is tied up in about a thousand knots but I will be ok once it is over, I think. If the lump was on her leg or maybe somewhere else I might have still kept her going but the mouth is not nice at all for her. We dont even know which one we are dealing with because my vet took a sample but never sent it away for testing at the time of the first operation. My elderly girl has a tumour of some sort in her mouth and it has been bleeding a bit lately. I am dealing with that tomorrow but her front legs have dried up blood on the fur. Does anyone know how I can easily clean this off I have tried just like Velvet soap and warm water but it is not working. I would appreciate any ideas thank you.

Hi Tala's Mum, Thanks for your message. I am pleased that you have been going well with the pallative care for now with your girl. I am not very confident that the outcome with my girl is going to be very good at all in fact I sent an email to the vet this morning as I have been out all morning to see if I can bring her into him today as the lump is so big and it is bleeding a bit from time to time. I have left a message for him to call me this afternoon. I am also a bit suspicious about the place I am taking her as the first consultation is free. I have a gut feeling that the treatments are going to be very expensive Most of those type places are and I am sorry if I offend anyone I am not going to spend hundreds of dollars on a dog who is nearly 14 if it is going to keep coming back. I have already had it removed once so I just dont know. I am thinking now that the previous one was in the lower jaw and this is the upper jaw and from what I can see the lower jaw still looks ok but I was warned by the vet that it could be an aggressive type and could come back. Hopefully the vet will ring me back today otherwise I will go to the appointment in the morning and see what is what. Good luck with your girl. Mumscats

Hi everyone, I rang my vet last night as I was thinking perhaps the end might be coming for my girl even though she is very bright. He had gone for the evening but rang me back before and told me about a place that deals with cancers in dogs in Moorabbin, called Southpaws and I have a consulation on Thursday morning and take it from there. The vet said that it is a good sign that Tamnmie is eating ok, wagging her tail and walking around ok, it means that she is happy generally. I am waiting for him to ring me back as he took a sample when he operated on her in September and he is going to try and find it and I think it needs to be tested so that we know what we are dealing with here. I am also not going to thrown thousands of dollars at her at this age so I will just see what they have to say on Thursday. If I can get a bit longer out of her it would be good.

I am not sure which type of oral cancer it is as when I had the lump removed in September \the vet did not get it tested but the lump inside her mouth is very big now, very red. It is very noticable when her mouth is closed and the eye is weeping as I said previously. She sleeps in my room and seems to sleep quite well at night.

Thank you kindly for everyone for your replies. My girl is generally pretty ok. The lump inside her mouth is very large and weeps a little bit and her eye is constantly weeping. She is eating ok still and although she has slowed down a lot and is laying around more, she still follows me around and wags her tail. She is drinking a lot of water each day. One of my sons saw her last week and said that she did not look happy and that I should take her and have her put out of her misery. Last night I thought I might take her one day this week but it has to be the right day but she was looking brighter this morning and was wagging her tail. I now think how can I do this whilst she is still walking around OK and eating extremely well. I am reluctant to take her to the vets as they will probably maybe want me to put her down and I just dont know what to do. It would be good if they could give me something to perhaps help her a bit but you just dont know with vets.

Hi there, I have a 13 year old Labrador and she had mouth cancer removed in about September last year and the vet said he got as much out as he could. Initially he thought it was in one area but it had actually spread. I noticed in December some swelling on her face on the siade the cancer was removed and checked her mouth and there didnt appear to be a lump inside but the lump has come back and is very large. Her face is swollen. I was advised by people that if it come back not to get it removed again because of her age, she is nearly 14 and also because it is an aggressive type of cancer. I saw the vet when I took my younger girl for her needle about a month ago and asked him if I was on the right track and he agreed. I have been advised by people to just keep her going whilst she is eating ok etc. She is eating ok and is pleased to see me etc. wags her tail. Does anyhone know if there is anything more that I can do to help because I cannot bring myself to take her to the vets to be put to sleep whilst she is eating ok but I also dont want to be selfish in keeping her alive if she is suffering. I have a dog who is just over 2 and she has been jumping on the bed whilst I am in it and sometimes she sleeps and other times she is there for a while and then goes back on the floor into her dog bed. How can I stop her jumping up as I would like to break this habit?
