Hey one thing at a time. Sorry. You know it can even be your supplier that is the problem. Not saying it is, but you never know. Some suppliers will say it okay, but in fact they will sell you anything. I have often changed my supplier of chicken mince too. So we will come to that later. Some butchers/chicken supplier will put in that sulphur to keep meat fresh. And even that can give your dog an allergy. Now all butchers/chicken suppliers will do this, but how much is another story in itself. (just to let you know I have two dogs who suffer with itchies, and I'm just going by what I have done in the last 12 mths.)

Well sometimes it will take a week sometimes you might see something in 4 -5 days. But elimination diets work if we try every two weeks. You didnt say what you wash Minx in.
-
Go to chicken mince. Some dogs are allergic to Beef. Maybe the case with Minx. Stay on the beef and eliminate Dry food since you have just bought 4kg. Try this for two weeks. Wont happen overnight but......... Corn is another allergen. Not sure on what others but will look into it. It would help if we knew what was in the vegies. Sorry.

I would give the dry food a miss. Every one on here know I hate the stuff. I'm a BARFer too. What is in the vegie mix? Try eliminating one food for a week or two and see how it goes. Are you using anything as by way of washing your dog, like Quit-Itch?

Scratching So Much - Her Face Is Bald!
TiffanyAmber replied to Tigs'n'Taffs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I love the stuff mita. In my doggie family I have two long hairs and two short hairs. My short hairs (one chihuahua and a TT) are the ones that suffer constantly with summer itch. I find that it is the only way I can keep them itch free is to shampoo then constantly. I did go back to their normal shampoo, once. Boy did I pay for it. They did too. Anyways, that is all I use now. It doesnt soap up like normal shampoo but it does clean them. Its a bit like iodine but it wont stain. I find that for a normal wash I would use a second bottle (my last quit-itch bottle) and dilute it, then I would squeeze this all over and rub this in. Wait for the 5mins (10 - 15mins for first timers) and rinse it out. Where the hot spot is mostly, I give that part a good rinse. Last year I was at my wits end not knowing what to do, until a horse breeder recommended this product. Here are some piccys. -

So hows it going Tigs'n'Taffs. Any help from the crew here???? -
I always buy my chicken mince from Lenards. But I only buy from one shop. The other shop doesnt do it properly. Maybe the same problem with yours, n Topaz. Try another Lenards shop. Your chicken mince should have a chickeny smell like your own fresh chicken you buy for the family. I always buy mine by the 10kg box at $6.50 and I ring that morning and its ready for me to pick up in the afternoon. I have spoken with my manager and he has told me how they do it. Maybe a word with you manager also. My girls get this either on its own, mixed with other meats, mixed with vegies and its supplemented with chicken necks, chicken carcasses, beef bones and fish. Even my two Chihuahuas get chicken frames. What they dont finish my outside dogs will.

Get some Quit-Itch and apply it raw. Dab a bit where it is raw and reapply four times a day. -
For my BARF mix I would use, pumpkin, carrots, swede, broccli, cauliflower, zucchini and a couple of big cans of four bean mix. Works for my dogs.

Hello Framed and welcome. What dogs do you have? I hate shopping in Pet stores. Its worst than shopping with kids. I'm also a wondering. Never mind me. Subject sounds to familiar. Never Mind.

Horse legs. Yummy (for dogs that is). ;) What do you think they put in canned dog food. Not all beef and lamb you know.

Cure For What Ails Your Dog
TiffanyAmber replied to GreatDanz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
WOW. What a read. I wished I picked this subject up earlier. Had a laugh and some growls. GreatDanz I'm totally 100% with you on this subject. I am a Barfer, but someone told me I'm not 100% raw. Who cares. I'm still learning. I definately do not use any can or dry food total. I too have a dog with allergies. Skin. I found being on BARF cleared it greatly. But the minute she even looks at can/dry food the allergy comes back. I have found there are so many different versions of BARF, that my head spins. But I do believe that I have found the one that works for me. Until someone can prove to me that what I feed my girls is wrong, I will be sticking to the one I do. Everybody has their opionons. I hate dry food. But I dont advocate to people that they shouldnt be using it. I have a dog who bloats and I have found dry food is the main culprit. I have also done my research on the net about dry food and I am convinced enough to know that is what causes my dog to bloat. I have also research different types of BARF and am still not convinced on a total meat Barf diet just yet. One day some site on the net might just do that. I too live in a small town where there is not much by way of getting my BARF supplies. It can take me a good 2 hour round trip to my main town to get my supplies. I only have one butcher and an IGA supermarket and they have nothing for my needs. I can spend anywhere up to an 1 1/2 hour to make my monthly supply for my four fur babies. And I love every minute of it. And did I mentioned the cost. Well what I would spend on a week buying can/dry food is more than what I spend buying BARF for a month. Know what really turned me into a Barfer? I went and did my research and found a site that said that what really goes into a can of dog food can be anything that is not human consumption. Or even dog consuption. Meaning diseased dogs/cats that are supposed to end up on the tip or buried or whatever they are supposed to do with the deceased animals. I have done my research for a very long time trying to work out what was real and what wasnt. And some of it is not very pretty. I'm with you Mana. What do we do. Are we right. What if................. -
My Maltese X Westie always gets a hydrobath when her coat sheds. I totally recommend it. I dont know about before a show. If you have never had your dog done before, I dont really know how a collie will come out. Maybe a week or two before the show. Ring the groomers and see what they say. I do know that they look a bit lighter from all that extra fur coming away and its alot easier on the brushing.

Mention this to the vet. Possums can be harmful to dogs. They can carry some yucky diseases. Lyssa virus being one of them.

I can not believe there are so many people who feed their dogs dry food. As an owner of a dog who constantly bloats, I have found that dry food was the blame. I am now an avid BARF feeder and there is no dry food in this house whatsoever. I have also read and am still learning as much as I can on dry food and the causes of bloat, the why's and whatfor's that causes bloat. I find that dry food is the worst offender. Do a google search with 'bloat and dry food' as your heading. Would love to hear opionins on the matter from others.

I love my Lenards Chicken shop. I get my chicken pet mince for $6.50 for 10kgs. Just ask them and they will have it ready for you. Chicken necks vary from $1.99 - $2.45 kg. Much cheaper than supermarkets and if you ring ahead and ask for bulk, they can do a deal for you. I too find that if I buy the family chicken supply from them in bulk, they help me with the dogs food. All in all it costs me about $30.00 a month to feed my lot of 4 dogs. And that includes all the vegies for their BARF, which I make myself. They also get yoghurt, fish, scraps and supermarket bones which I can pick up for $3.50 a 5kg bag. I often search the supermarket shelves and any specials they might have for a juicy bargin. Often they are throwing out things that havent sold for some time but are still good. (tins only). Just gotta know 'what would be good for my dogs'. The only problem I have is finding my beef supplier in Bendigo. I use the Lansell butchers there (next to the Warehouse) and he can only supply mince beef for $10.00 for 2kg. He did offer their beef for dogs, but I find that too fatty. Does anybody know one in Bendigo?? Would be most appreciated.

Missing Link Supplement Powder. Active ingredients: Flax Seed, Blackstrap Molasses, Rice Bran, Primary Dried Yeast, Sunflower Seed, Freeze Dried Liver, Dehydrated Alfalfa, Dried Carrot, Freeze Dried Bone, Dried Fish Meal, Freeze Dried Oyster, Sprouted Green Barley, Dried Kelp, Lecithin, Garlic and Yucca Schidigera Extract Presentation: Granular powder 227gm, 454gm I would say that was enough supplements. I make my all my dogs food. I find the meat patties too expensive.

They do tend to eat less when on a raw food diet. I call the can foods, junk foods now. When I first fed raw, all my dogs were putting on weight a bit. Now I have cut down and some of them are back to normal. Sheees, the chi's will be lucky if they get an egg ring full. I find that when they look a little on the thin side, I add more food. When they get too fat, I give them less. How about adding some pysillium husks (sp?) or like I do, some Lowan Natural Oat Bran. I have a dog who gets bloat a bit and I find that adding these every second meal along with Cod Liver Oil helps with her pooing and wind.
