  1. How slow is this week going for you who are getting their little babies this week? :D I know I'm waiting in anticipation for your gorgeous photos  it's very exciting! My little boy is 13 weeks today! Can't believe we've been together a month already! Time flies! :)
  2. I use 'Lay down' for my puppy too.. I did originally try 'down' and he wouldn't listen, then I said 'Lay down' and he did.. So it stuck  Every other command he knows is one syllable so it's a bit out of place but hey, whatever works
  3. Oh ok, I didn't know you where expecting a baby in April....When are you thinking of getting the puppy? Might be a bit hard to take on caring for a newborn baby & a young puppy at the same time...I know I wouldn't be able to cope with that, but that's just me. +1 I have a teeny tiny puppy - no where near the energy levels of a gorgeous and crazy bull terrier puppy... and it can be tedious! I couldn't cope with a brand new baby AND a crazy puppy at the same time. Do you plan on sleeping at all? :) One of the girls I work with went to one of those puppy palace type pet stores (where you walk in and can pat the puppies in pens not behind glass. Came home with a huski and border collie. She went back the next week and came home with a lab, 3 very high energy pups at the same time. I just met up with my other friend who said she's now got dog number 4 and has just fallen pregnant. Crazy crazy girl. Shes only 24 as well. ... Wow. That's crazy!!

  5. I'd rehome the partner! My puppy forgets I'm here when my Boyfriend is here
  6. Hachi is such a beautiful story. I was in tears for most of it though!
  7. There was a thread last month about dog movies... This thread just reminded me and I think I might have a doggie movie night tonight
  8. I'm glad I'm not the only one who couldn't make sense out of that story
  9. Emmalee is beautiful :) Congratulations!
  10. A good day on DOL Oh and Kavik - That makes me want a crate!
  11. I agree with all of the above! These certainly aren't 'fads' and there is extensive research behind all that you've accused of being a fad, and useless. Crate training especially is very useful when done correctly. I had never crate trained before and I decided to with my Pomeranian. I put the crate beside my bed at night time and let him out every couple of hours to toilet so he got the idea. Now he will let me know throughout the night when he wants to go toilet. He doesn't cry, or bark throughout the night and he also puts himself to bed when he knows it's bedtime. All I need to do is close the crate 'door'. He does the rest. :) I would crate train any future puppies and I would recommend it to others too.
  12. I ordered some kibble just before Christmas, processing time was around a week, but once they had posted it, it had arrived the next day :)
  13. I'm in Sydenham.. You're right - This morning I was looking through the review handouts given at the session and it's basically stock standard information you'll find in any generic puppy training... I'm trying to be positive about it by thinking 'perhaps she's a great nurse, just not a great puppy preschool teacher, but the way she handled Benny makes me think otherwise. Wouldn't basic handling and fear be part of vet nurse training too? If you're in sydenham there is a very reputable obedience school that does puppy classes just down the road from you: http://fourpawsk9training.com.au/ It's in Keilor Downs, very popular, and is nationally accredited. Thanks! I did see this one too and was wondering about it! Definitely something to ponder on!
  14. No idea what it could be, but sending positive vibes to the little guy to stay strong. He's got an adorable little face. Fingers crossed for some good news!
  15. Yaaaaaayyyyyy!!! I kept checking back for some good news and finally we have some! That's fantastic news! Alvin is obviously quite happy and comforted being back at his home - cocking his leg on the table! It's those little naughty things you come to appreciate and love :)
  16. +1 DOL is a fantastic place with a huge wealth of knowledge. The amount I've learnt from just reading past threads about training and behaviour has taught me more than generic training books. Not to mention 'off topic' is a great place to chat about interesting topics with some wonderful people :)
  17. Ohhh look at that face!!! he's such a big boy but looks so gentle. Next week is an exciting week! So many puppy home comings which means lots of photos for us :D
  18. Ohhhhh I think I just fell in love with that sweet little face :D
  19. Glad to see you're feeling a little bit better today, and it definitely seems like you're making the right choice for Benny (who looks absolutely adorable BTW)! Aw thank you he really is my little bestie! Your little one is just simply gorgeous too.. Did you have any luck with your puppy preschool class?
  20. Oh wow mumof4girls! Congrats for breaking the news! It really does sound like your pup is just an amazing fit for your family it'll be great to see him grow with you all
  21. Oh no! So sorry to hear Clyde! I know I can't help from Vic, but I'm sending positive vibes to you! Hopefully your little man is safe and sound.
  22. Thank you for your responses! It's made me a little less upset about the situation even though every time I think of it I start feeling angry again . Even though I know Benny is just being sensible by not playing with the larger dogs and staying close to me it still feels so awful having someone be mean to him. (Not to mention witnessing the bogan woman hurt her puppy ) I've seriously had stressful days at work that have made me feel a lot better than that class did. The wine and chocolate for dinner made me feel a little better :p I think the suggestion of writing a letter is a good one, which I may draft up something tonight to post. I wont be signing my name off on it, as it would make for some very awkward moments when I go to the Vet but I will cover all of the points I mentioned in both of my posts. These things anyone could have / would have seen. I'm also going to call up to remove Benny and I from the class list to inform them I wasn't to impressed with the class, and I don't think Benny and I are benefiting from the classes. All the puppies are much larger, and the 2 other smaller puppies (Poodle, and a Poodle X Maltese) are so very boisterous which also makes it difficult as there is really no puppy he would feel comfortable with. At least with a written letter, and my phone call, they can put two and two together and assume it was both me, or they can assume it was 2 separate people. I think this way may gain more attention than just one method of complaint. I'm not sure if I'll go ahead and look for alternative classes as the training part we're doing fine, it really was just for the social aspect which like many have said it would probably be more beneficial to set up playdates with similar sized dogs with similar personalities. I really hope DOLers reading my rants aren't put off and do go on to find wonderful classes AND trainers . I'm definitely sure they're out there (somewhere ) - Just do the reasearch and make sure you're happy, and your puppy is happy too.
  23. He is just perfect!!! He looks like a lovely sweet and happy boy I bet you can't wait to bring him home!! He looks so cuddly! :D :D :D
  24. What a beautiful dog Fingers crossed and all the best! That's lovely news!
