  1. I dont understand why the talking back is an issue. The dog is just vocalising. Its your perception that views this negatively as back chatting and being disobedient.
  2. Yeah! So glad to hear someone else willing to sleep on the floor with their new pup! I thought i was the only one!
  3. Wow! That's awesome....Victoria is so progressive. Here in QLD were barely have the right policy and legislative framework to protect children from abuse and neglect let alone animals...one day we might catch up...lol
  4. I recently came across a dodgy backyard breeder selling Akita pups in Loganlea. He was registered breeder online with DOL yet his pups were being advertised on sites like trading post, gumtree et which I thought was odd. Being new to the puppy buying game I rang up the number provided and this breeder was not only selling these pups at 6 weeks of age, but he could not tell me anything about the bitch or the dog (temperaments, breeding etc) The pups had only been weaned the night before (supposedly) and the bitch wasn't even at the property for me to view. The phone conversation got really awkward when I asked about limited registered papers, proof of vet checks etc and he rang me the next day to let me know the pups were all gone. (not true as my partner made contact shortly after he said he still had a male and female available) There were too many alarm bells for me and I did wonder how he managed to get away with advertising on DOL.
  5. I think you should address it with the kids, their parents and if necessary council. Your dog is on YOUR property...he has very right to be in his own backyard without being harassed by the local kids. At least if you raise it first and try to resolve it, you are less likely to be held accountable should something happen. Put on your best people skills, smile, try not to sound accusing or defensive and if tension starts to escalate, put it back on them by saying you would absolutely HATE to see a child get hurt if the teasing where to continue. hope this helps.
  6. Yayy! Very good choice :D Who are you getting her from?? Thanks! I think it's a good choice too! Lol! We are getting Kiara from Ishin Akita down in Tassie...theyhave been excellent to deal with! Plan on flying her up here to the Gold Coast around the 26 Nov. I'm doing so much planning and prep for her arrival...my partner calls it "nesting" lol! Love the pic btw! Where did you get Kyojin? Awesome! Ishin have lovely looking dogs. We got Kyojin from Darqhorse in Canberra. It was really exciting going to pick him up from the airport! Darqhorse boy...Niiice! Are you planning on showing him? Yes it will be an awesome day when we pick her up from the airport...1 question..collar or harness to start off with...I'm so unsure..I'd prefer to use a harness but I've read that with Akitas this can encourage pulling...

My partner keeps laughing at me (he's had dogs before...lol) because I'm going through what he refers to as my "nesting phase" lol
