I just have the hyundai i30, not the wagon. And It isnt big enough for what the OP is wanting, but if the wagon is anything like my car it is great! So nice to drive, very economical and even my boot is huge for such a little car

Hi All, We will be travelling to Coffs harbour at he end of sept/early october, and was wanting general advice. Firstly, anyone know of any pet friendly accommodation? And truly pet friendly, not just "you can have pets outside tied to the balcony".. And if any of them offer anything to leave your dogs there unattended. Eg. if we were to go out for the day in a touristy way, can the dogs stay in a fenced area, or if they offer daycare type services at all. Mine could also be crated without issue inside, but i don't think many places allow dogs inside unattended. Secondly, dog friendly beaches, restaurants and activities in the area? I know a lot of NSW national parks dont allow dogs at all. And thirdly, are ticks common in coffs at that time of year? I have never had to use a tick protection her in brisbane, so dont know tick seasons lastly, any general advice is much appreciated! thank you guys.

I used to work as a carer for Dont fret Pet :) However they pay the carers very little and charge an arm and leg! Or did? This was many years ago, dont know what their pricing is now. Never had an issue, the dogs all seemed very happy. They do a property check beforehand and suss out the carers, though a police check or similar wasn't necessary. I am sure other will have recommendations too :)

I agree with this. Its unlikely that it is clipper burn, because unless the groomer is highly unskilled it is unlikely the dog gets clipper burn everytime.. So makes me think it is the shampoo, or the cologne they spray with (most groomers will use these, make sure they are not for your dog!). OR a food treat he is getting there. Maybe take them some treats you know he doesnt react to so if they do use treats you know for sure it isn't causing the flare up. Might be a good idea to take in your won more natural shampoo for them to use? its worth a shot.

Allergy Dog - Seeking Skin Management Tips
denali replied to Polgara's Shadow's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I cut a hole in the onesie for the tail, haha. It looked pretty spectacular but didn't really solve the licking/scratching. The diet and supplements were the recommendation of my holistic vet: Minced goat, rabbit, and cooling vegetables (lettuce, broccoli, green apples, cucumber, bitter melon) as well as a bit of cooked duck liver. We've been through an amazing amount of supplements over the years, including oils, probiotics, chinese herbs etc. At the moment he gets slippery elm and liquid hydrated bentonite (to support his gut), a vitamin B complex, something called R-Alpha Lipoic, C Salts, Dipan 9, Nalgesic tablets, and a Chinese skin formula. Most of these are from Natural Remedies Group, nrgaust.com. I really have no idea what most of these do and just follow my vet's advice - but to my understanding they're all about supporting his gut and digestion, supporting his immune system, and cooling him down since he runs really hot. And of course the 1mg of Prednisolone (half a mg if we can manage it) helps even though it's such a small amount. At his worst, he had lost/scratched away all the fur on his paws, legs, belly and sides, throat, and around the eyes and mouth. It was a scary sight and he was so unhappy. He's always been eating raw/fresh food and I've been really conscious of what I was feeding him, but he only started getting better after implementing the diet above. It took and while and a lot of trial and error, but he's finally at a point where the itching is not much of an issue anymore. May i ask who you're seeing? :) -
perhaps being very protective at home .... and working herself into a tizz (technical talk) But then again I guess some people would describe my dogs as 'going off' when men come to my house. Don't know if they would do it with females as it is normally male tradies that are the strangers. I would say one of mine does this too, but is not gender discriminatory- will bark at any strange person coming into our house. However he will also calm down once i say the person is ok and then just goes about his normal business. Which this other dog may not do?

I would agree with everyone else, I have the 50mm 1.8, and have no issues with it! Lovely little lens :) I think youll learn to love it!

Raw? yes, i would suggest this also. But it seemed like the OP was interested in kibble only. But raw would be mu pick :)

So true

Mine are the same :) I think this is because i shape a lot of tricks and just look at them while i wait for them to offer things, so they just start thinking they should do something

I agree. Thats what i love about my vet. She is an older lady, so would have worked with all the old ways for everything. But she is so good at staying up to date! For vacc we did puppy shots and she said "We used to reccomend yearly vacc, but now only every three years, and even then we may not need to. But i would still like to see him for a check up each year" i was like Finally found a good one! and we went in for patella luxation, and she said "we used to just say 'YEP into surgery asap', but now we only operate if necessary. At this stage we will just continue to monitor it, if it worsens we will need to operate, but in the meantime just do lots of uphill walking and swimming." I was just so happy she wasn't pushing anything. I have had some horrible vets just stuck in the old ways.. Hmm. Dodgy. Very dodgy!

This is true. I work at a doggy daycare and was bitten the other day, on my knee, by a spoodle, probably springer spaniel sized, so larger than some spoodles you see. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time as it went for another dog someone let through the gate and it got my knee instead. It hurt! and has left a fairly decent bruise, and two puncture wounds. I can't imagine how easily a dog would tear through the skin of an elderly lady such as this We also promptly sent the dog home for being dog aggressive. It was a new dog we had never had in, and never will have in again. Just goes to show that not just 'pitbulls' attack.. ETA: Lucy the staffy promptly came up and 'cleaned' my knee for me. Vicious dog she is

O M G! Calendula Tea Rinse
denali replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
About to give my 3 a rinse with it today :) Two are scratching madly. The other, well i feel its good for him anyway  ETA: havent used it as a rinse, just a wipe onto one spot for one of them. But it seems to work well, so a rinse might not go astray :) ETA2: All washed and have some very damp dogs running around like nutters  I usually blow dry them, but thought i would let this dry onto them :) especially because its a nice day today. -
so adorable! and very interesting that females turn from gold to black then gold again :)

What's The Worst Reaction Somebody Has Had To You Dog?
denali replied to dididog's topic in General Dog Discussion
I get that all the time with no muzzle. Sometimes I say yes just so see their reactions, then after they jump back in horror I say I was kidding and he means no harm unless you're bacon. That's usually the best way to point out that's a stupid thing to ask when you're already patting him.  -
What's The Worst Reaction Somebody Has Had To You Dog?
denali replied to dididog's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had someone kick my previous cavalier. Thankfully he wasn't to phased by it and still loved people. Though he was a little wary of men after that. Let me tell you, i was not happy!! -
I don't own a large breed dog, but used to frequently dogsit Hank, a large boxer x mastiff, and he was on proplan :) Not the same one as Danois, just general large breed, but he looked like he did really well on it! ETA: I feed raw now, and am loving it, but before that my dogs were on Royal Canin and seemed quite good. They're littlies though. 11kg max :)

Rspca 'shocked' At Changes To New Dog Breeding Code
denali replied to silentchild's topic in In The News
So I assume this is new because when I phoned RSPCA about a rescue that never walked the dogs after I documented how often the dogs got our over a few week period and they said they had no rules on how often a caged dog needed to be walked. How on earth are they planning to monitor that? I doubt any of this will help stop puppy farmers. They already ignore most legislation, what makes this different?? -
Looks pretty hard to slip in theory. Wish you luck!

Dr Harry once visited a nursing home for elderly nuns in Brisbane. Their pet therapy dog was a greyhound. The nuns said that the grey was a perfect pet ... sweet & gentle & could reach his head onto their beds & chairs for pats & cuddles. Not the Brisbane grey, but this one, Shiner, is a pet therapy dog who visits a retirement home for nuns in San Francisco. Shiner's a rescued, retired racing greyhound. The pic says it all: (click, enlarge) Definitely does! So lovely :)

Thats awesome. Glad there are lots of greys out there in therapy work! They are such gentle dogs, but i don't think people realise that..

This came up on my facebook feed this morning. Lovely story- hope it is successful :) http://www.itv.com/news/tyne-tees/2014-04-14/greyhounds-offer-pet-therapy-to-people-with-brain-damage/
